I'm an airline pilot and I've been using the AG7 at work every day for the past 4 years or so. The pen has never failed and always gets compliments when I lend it to someone (briefly- get your own!).

I'm seeing some comments about using pencils in space --- pencils are flammable, not ideal in a pressurized oxygen environment. The graphite flakes could also float into sensitive electronics. Space pens are preferred in this case. :)

Yes, AFAIK the "Russians used pencils in space" is just a myth. Even though it's a nice story, it's false.

I don't own a Cosmonaut or a Speedmaster but I still want that pen. I'll just buy one and pretend my G-shock is a Swiss luxury watch 👍. Great video as usual. Regards,

I juste love those Fisher Space Pen since more than 10 years now, my favorite is the Small Bullet Space Pen that actually works with standard size pressurized recharge. The length of the pen closed is about 3mm longer than the recharge itself, that's impressive design done there.

Thanks for adding this to the "gentleman's repertoire"! I've got a Fisher pen or cartridge in one form or another in my EDC, vehicle pack, hiking pack, at my work desk, and with my travel portfolio. They are so immensely practical and have yet to fail on me---highly recommend them to everyone. Not to mention carrying one in day-to-day business is very useful, I can't count the number of times it's come in handy out at the bank, bar/restaurant, etc.
I also love that they've got almost every type of refill available, and in multiple colors, so you can retrofit virtually all pens (apart from very compact designs since they have to be pressurized) with a Fisher cartridge.

    Dear TGV,
I need your advice, I’m going to be receiving a Cartier Ballon Bleu(42) for my High School graduation from my grandparents. In addition my father wants to give me a special gift(A Rolex) for my 18th birthday. The problem is I was originally going for the 41mm datejust with the smooth Bezel and the grey dial, but I think this will be a similar look to the Cartier. Therefore I was thinking to go with either a Sub or a black GMT. I feel like the Sub is a bit of a Cliche and the GMT provides that sporty and masculine element without being too different from the Sub. I want your advice on which one I should get for a strong start to my watch collection.
    Thanks in advance,
    Renato
    P.S.
I know I’m lucky to be getting these expensive watches so early on, please only comment if you have real advice to provide, thanks.

The pens in Victorinox Swiss Army Knives are also pressurised for upside-down writing. They write pretty well, but I find that the pressure seems to cause the ink to kind of leak out a bit, as mentioned in this video, it's not liquid ink and it doesn't make a mess...except for upon the first contact with paper after sittinf for a while. There will be a little micro-blob of ink that gets smeared off the pen usually within the first word. Sometimes it ends up on my fingers if I'm not careful holding it...so I'm wondering if this pen has this small issue as well.

I've had an AG7 for at least two decades. Love this pen. I particularly like taking it shopping, where often the only writing surface is a vertical wall. It's never failed to write as long as there's ink in the cartridge. Recently my wife bought me the Clutch version, so now I have two Space Pens. Have you tried the Fisher refill in your Parkers? Each refill comes with a Parker adapter.

I prefer fountain pens over regular pens because they aren’t as ‘runny’, for the lack of a better word, by runny I mean they offer less resistance when writing than a fountain pen. Are the space pens more like a regular pen or more like a fountain pen when it comes to resistance?

It is a great pen as is the Parker. I use the Fisher in the winter and the rain. Write in the rain paper + Fisher works well.

Great pens from an awesome company. The refills are also designed to be compatible with Parker pens so I run all space pen inserts inside my jotters 👌

Very nice piece and impressive history behind it, TGV. Thanks for the video. I'll stick with my Montblanc Meisterstück for now, but if I ever need an alternative, this will definitely be on my list.

Little known fact. Almost all pens work upside down, including pencils and fountain pens. Fountain pens work by capilary action. The ink does not simply drip out of them by sheer gravity. However, in space the ink reservoir of a fountain pen is exposed to changes in "air" pressure causing the fountain pen to "burp". In retrospect, the story of the development of the Fisher space pen is both interesting and entertaining.

I might have to try my luck with fountain pens again one day. My past experiences with them have been disastrous sadly.

Hi Tristano, something unrelated to the video, but please help me out.
If given a choice which one will be your keeper, the Flight Master SNA411 or the reissue Giugiaro Ripley SCED037. Only space for one chrono and one has to go. Please give your opinion/views. Cheers.

A very nice and rather affordable first watch could be the Kelton line-up from Timex. It are 1970's mechanical watches with armachoc protection. It's not automatic, but it's worth giving it a spin on google.

My preferred pen for a long time has been a Pilot G2 with a Mont Blanc Rollerball cartridge. The Rollerball cartridges just feel sooo smooth, I love it. But this was still a very interesting video, I didn't know the history behind Fischer space pens. I definitely want to check them out now.

How do you know if a person uses a fountain pen? The ink stains on their hands. By the way, my hand writing is not that great - I like anachronistic gadgets of all sorts.
