- It would be a mistake to call Kamijou Touma and his imagine breaker a boring power. In a series with Individuals who can shake the galaxy with their vector control, create universe spanning psychic networks with bio electricity, perfectly memorize thousands of world destroying grimours and control the very fabrics of reality. The simple ability to negate supernatural phenomena may seem a little simple by comparison. But to call the imagine breaker boring would not only be dismissing the whole point of its nature but it would only mean ignoring the sinister forces that lay inside. You see, the right hand of Kamijou Touma isn’t simply a vessel for the imagine breaker but a prison for forces beyond our own control. Forces if not for the efforts of a certain spikey haired boy. Would be laying ruin to the world as we know it.

I kinda just forgot to elaborate lol, but the placebo effect thing is kinda cool. Touma’s willpower might be the highest of any other anime character I’ve seen, if you combine that with the death loop stuff in NT Volume 9

Lets goo the biggest mistery in the franchise still to this day, its kinda funny how Kamachi managed to put Touma under both spectrums of a weak/average mc that solves problems with his head and heart but also potentially among the most op of his universe
It's a testament to his skill as a writer, and considering his work ethic it's unfathomable to think his writing remains mostly consistent throughout the Toaru Series.
Well that's mainly due to the fact that magic in this series is less whimsy and more footnotes from cuthulu.
Its unexplained, messy, and just unreliable when it comes down to it.
So Toma has to try and solve things with his head otherwise it's a giant gamble, where he could become more of a threat than whatever he's fighting.

Touma's Dragons are my favourite powers in the series! Since getting into the series almost 10 years ago, like many others, I have been trying to figure out what his hidden powers are and their many possibilities. I hope that with almost 20 years of build-up, the payoff to the mastery is worth the wait!

It's crazy with how long this anime has been out, I still enjoy hearing about it. Touma may have lost his memories but with how many abilities her got, it makes you wonder what exactly he is or what he went thru to get them. Even Index doesn't know.
Touma's personality post and pre index seem about the same though, was there ever anything hinted at the start of the series?

@@denkerbosu3551the anime does a poor job exposing that but yes, while the heart remains the same the post memory Touma faces through all of OT (what the anime adapted) an impostor syndrome and him wanting to be what he thinks the previous Touma was, this gets developed further later in the series until he accepts himself. And prememory loss Touma was more normal, scared, heck he even had a different sense of humour 😂i suggest at some point you read stuff like NT11 and Biohacker SS which are 2 novels where we can see Touma before meeting Index
What's crazier is even with how popular and old the LN is, we barely get any anime adaptation much less a good one. New Testament really deserves it.

I want an arc that is a mix of the Level 6 shift, and Alistair releasing himself. Someone (probably Kihara, because its always them) gets Touma, and puts him into a medically induced coma, releasing all of the entities. Now EVERYONE needs to work together to wake Best Boy up, and combat these things. Maybe the Entities find people they like. The Fire dragon may end up liking Styil's... style.

I think touma is the reincarnated st. George. All the dragons he slayed are sealed into him. Ib just gives them the ability to appear with aim. Plus it would nuke the seal that is touma. That is why they could escape.

The theory of his hand being there to Seal the beings in his hand is THE most logical thing I think... since they aren't essentially serving him but more like they are trying to get out and destroy everything in their path.
I don't think so, my headcanon is the dragon is "kamijou touma himself" if he stop his circular thinking of saving everyone he can. Might have phrased it better as in it carry the same emotion held by kamijou touma but without the inhibitor that is his thought, it is the rawest emotion of which he shows against fake Aerolus Izzard nearly killing him without much thought only to reel back after regaining his thought on why killing people is 'not human'. But it is just headcanon, as it seem capable of independent thought and even converse with touma making it likely that it just headcanon/not canon

The angle dragon more or less self destructed due to its power source being cut off during it's fight with misaka. Because if I remember correctly the host it attached itself to had the ability to open a wormhole and connect to a blackhole essentially obtaining unlimited energy and that was what the angel dragon was feeding off of. Makes you think just how much power is hidden behind Touma's right hand if it requires a blackhole just to maintain one dragon.

it's just a theory, but i always thought that the Invisible thing IS the Imagine Breaker in his purest form. A Mass of Energy that exist to bring the World to where it was, what in a certain way, makes sense, because it never had a Base form, is not a Hand or a Weapon, is an Ability that was created out of fear to lose the Real World. And Fiammas right Hand at that time was the thing with the most potenzial to destroy the Real World.
Its different tho, theres a novel in NT that talks about the origin of imagine breaker and its previous form and why it chose Touma to wield it. Invisible thing/the monsters inside of Touma are something else, we just dont know what or why they are inside of him

All the toaru spinoffs are canon and connected to index, they just happen at a different time with a different pov, railgun focuses more on misaka, tokiwadai stuff and conflicts eith dark scientists in the city, accelerator on his conflict with the dark side of the city, and similar case for the other manga spinoffs. But its all canon and worth it to get through :)

It doesn’t actually matter which order you watch the series in. You can watch the entirety of index first and then watch Railgun. Or do the opposite. It doesn’t really matter.
If you do want to watch it in chronological order then it goes.
1. Railgun Season 1
2. Railgun S and Index Season 1 (both happen around the same time so order doesn’t matter)
3. Index season 2 & Railgun T (again, both happen around the same time so order doesn’t matter)
4. INDEX Season 3
There’s an accelerator series as well which takes place a bit before Railgun T I think.

Every character which has the ability to alter reality is overpowered without a doubt but the true overpowered ability that if any character ever obtained it would be able to destroy any character in any series ever created no matter how powerful they are is this the ability to Negate Reality. All they have to do is think that you never existed and they have negated your existence and if that person knew of you beforehand and they know that you're going after them it's a wrap they don't even need Batman prep time because they can deal with you quicker than a death Note.

Nope, and after the recent arc, I realize just how powerful this dude is.
This series would be watchable id the mangaka wasn't a pdf with the overwhelming amount of little girl "fan service" he has littered across the series
While I agree with you that Fanservice is boring and would be better without, Index is a light novel from the 2000s. At that time, fanservice was widely applied in novels: Zero no Tsukaima, Shakugan no Shana, etc. And although it still exists, the author reduced the excess fanservice throughout the arcs. While the anime decided to cut and shorten dialogue, fights and important explanations just to show the fanservice, so being just from the anime the impression is that Index has much more fanservice than story. Even though I'm against what the anime did, I still don't think Index is on Fire Force and Fairy Tail's level in terms of fanservice where the exciting atmosphere of the fights was broken with jokes about Tamaki and Lucy having her clothes ripped off out of nowhere.

Wins because of plot armour? No, half the time Touma gets his ass kicked or even ends up at deaths door and needs to fight them again. Often times his allies act as massive support to turn the tides.
The imagine breaker and the entities in his right hand do help him win some fights but they are not an instant win button since there are characters that are immune or overpower touma’s abilities. This is a series where certain characters fight other characters who hard counter them. Im not sure what you mean by “lose to other characters with greater plot armour” that has never been the case. All fight’s actually require strategy and characters need to use their resourcefulness to win fights.

@aspectbkc No this isn't some braindead shounen where the MC wins almost every fight with asspull power-ups and has boring power creep/escalation that ruins the story. A Certain Magical Index is a light novel and its power system works like Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Never understood why its such a popular trope to make the mc fucking op as hell for zero reason, i find it boring and not many anime do it correctly including this one.

@@helpfulreaper7684 I mean, the author wrote him to be a kind of joker who beats the strong but loses to the weak, and so, this mc is the character in the franchise with the most defeats. With his right hand that cancels powers, all this mc does is bring opponents down to his level, if the opponent is superior to him in terms of experience, physique and battle IQ, the opponent can already beat him. Robots made of materials without any supernatural powers would be one of their weaknesses, as the mc cannot cancel their attacks and their movements are difficult to read. If he isn't careful, even a normal weapon could kill him. There is also the fact that his right hand does not cancel all types of power, it has weaknesses that it is up to the mc himself to use his brain to overcome them.
Really powerful things like dragons appear when his arm is cut off but I would say that the author does not take advantage of this to transform him into an op character within the narrative. Because in 58 volumes, his arm is only cut a few times and even when it is cut, there are times when nothing comes out. The few times these powerful things appeared, they either guaranteed the mc victory or they were completely useless and easily overcome depending on the opponent. Thus showing that these powers are not like an Exódia card that guarantees victory instantly just by being invoked on the battlefield. In short, the mc rarely takes advantage of these powers, the author likes to make him fight in a simple way, that's why in 58 volumes he is the only one in the main cast who doesn't have power ups, in 95% of his fights, he always has the same basic arsenal: A right hand that cancels powers, his experience in street fights, his precognition and his battle IQ to fight.
