    i averaged 13-1/4 miles per hiking day at age 61 on the AT and the PCT was so much easier that I bumped that up to 19.6 mphd on the PCT 2 years later. In between I did training hikes like you do on some of the same trails, but I didn’t follow the intensive exercise program like you showed in this video. The PCT should be a cakewalk for you.

    Sucks getting older. That's why I wish I would have found the love of backpacking earlier in my life. :) You are doing a great job preparing and you know as well as anyone that regardless, the trail will throw you curveballs. You are never really in complete control, and you are just experiencing the earths creations as it has always been before you. That’s the beautiful thing about it!

    Here's one little tiny little extra tidbit you might be able to want
    And only when you're ready when you think positive that you ready
    Here is the kicker challenge to that workout
    50 lb bag of sand
    5K in 50 min
    Remember remember this is only for the added benefits that this will give you a long with your workout and only after your workout when you think you are fully prepared for this last challenge before you go out on the trail

    Last year when I was on the Oregon Coast Trail (OCT) we had a lot of PCT thru-hikers that were diverted due to fires, snow, downed bridges, etc. If you do decide to hike Oregon via the OCT, I *STRONGLY* recommend flipping to going sobo. The prevailing winds blow from the NW, and if you hike nobo you will have strong winds and sand blowing in your face all day every day - no fun at all.
    Also, if you do end up on the OCT, please check the local maps for where it is legal and not legal to camp and hike; there's a *LOT* of protected snowy plover nesting grounds along the coast. Most state campgrounds have hiker-biker campsites that are cheap ($7-10 drop-in only) and very nice (hot showers, electricity, generally great campsites). About 2/3 of my nights on the OCT I camped at those sites.

    Love you bro, I now backpack oil creek and minister creek with my 4 kids because of you. I want to give back. It’s not an autoimmune disorder. I had the same problem. Your lats and your back muscles are not quite as developed as they should be. I was there as well and I have been lifting for 30 years please don’t think I am saying you are weak. I am not it’s just your forearms are trying to compensate and the ligaments and tendons are not meant to have that kind of strain. Hang a v bar over the chin up bar and this will take pressure off of those tendons. I did physical therapy for 8 weeks it didn’t really help. I called my doc. And he gave me a 3 day prescription for prednisone and I was 90 percent better in 5 days. The prednisone will take care of 90 percent. Before that I struggled to pour milk from a gallon jug for months. Good luck stay strong!!!

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  6 месяцев назад

      This is interesting. The problem is, 3 years ago when I tried to lift I went really slow and still somehow ended up injured, I can't even imagine starting a freaking 10lbs. It just makes me depressed. I started at 20lb dumbbells which I thought felt pretty good but one day I woke up and there the tendon pain was. I'll try going slower for the long haul when I get back. For now I have no problem with tricep pushups or wide pushups but the 2nd I do tricep extension of any kind I get that weird pain.

    you're going to be one of the most prepared people to walk the trail i think. i really dont think it will even matter but Altitude can get anyone/ just go down for a little bit, rest eat and and try again/ doubt it will be an issue at all for you. Your massive mileage for so many years... i think your biggest problem will be how to slow down and see more of it!

    Curious ... what will your diet/food look like on the trail? Typically, with the Beachbody programs they have specific diets to go along with them - will you be keeping a similar diet while on the trail or change your diet from what you did on the AT. Also, will you be using a tent for the whole PCT or will you at some point switch back to a hammock setup once you get out of the desert section? Stay strong & happy trails!

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  7 месяцев назад +1

      Good question! This has come up a few times so I'll either make a separate video or add it to the QA. It will be completely than my diet on the AT as it didn't give me enough energy and I think I was constantly crashing due to my sugar intake.

  • @BackpackingStealth
    @BackpackingStealth 6 месяцев назад

    (my experience anyway) you can be a long distance backpacker but when you have kids the percentage of getting off the trail early aka throwing in the towel from homesickness skyrockets. I've hiked thousands of miles but since fatherhood, two weeks was my max on trail before I quit. Just wanted to keep you in the know, with a grain of salt, in my humble oponion.

    It seems you're doing fast twitch muscle workouts. What about your slow twitch muscle workout? That's more like what hiking is. Are you going to start doing endurance training before the hike? I'm up to about 3 hrs of exercise per day. I think you're arms are going to hurt when you start lifting. They have to tear and repair to build up the muscle. Keep at it. I'll see you out there.
