    In addition to the meds you have, I also carry Dramamine (motion sickness/vomiting), single use antibiotic ointment in a foil pack, and severe cold/flu pills.

    A roll of gauze could come in handy if you get a cut or scrape too big for a Bandaid. You can improvise a bandage from spare socks, or a t shirt, but it’s nice to have something clean to put directly on the wound.

    Tight Ditty bag Frozen! I too swear by the bidet. I did switch from travel sized toothpaste to Toothpaste Tabs. GGG has awesome tooth brushes that weigh next to nothing. I'm super excited for your PCT thru, you definitely got this!

    You might want to try an anti-chafe solution like body glide as it seems to do better than A&D in real hot temperatures?

    Hey Jason, thumbs up on the extra washer for your Sawyer. I don't know how many I have found on the ground at campsites. (hundreds I swear) would hate to have to buy a new Squeeze because they don't have the O-rings.

    Antibiotic ointment; a small cut can get infected and cause big problems. You can get them in small packets so you don't have to carry a tube.

    Just something i remembered when I was out there. I used the GG 1/8” grey foam pad in the desert in my tent under my sleeping pad. With all the sharp, spikey type of things in the desert some of the other hikers had a problem with their pad punctures. I didn’t have any issues and I thank that old timer for sharing that with me years ago. Thought I would share it with you, something to think about.

  • @carlmcdonald4576
    @carlmcdonald4576 5 месяцев назад

    I recommend skipping the baby powder. If we think about it, it is an abrasive (ask any cyclist). A&D is great and quite enough. Caution for those in grizzly country - A&D has a hella strong smell. On the CDT I use Aquaphor instead.

    I switched to the powdered soap on GGG. Idk how much lighter it is or if you care. It works really well though. I keep it in a little squeeze bottle.

    Instead of antibiotic ointment, get burn cream packets. Same antibiotic ingredients but with added numbing agent.
    Deuce is... Pretty difficult on the hands any time there's a root mat. Will probably be great for much of CA, but once vegetation gets dense, well... Trying to use it in Dolly Sods had me shopping for a replacement. The Bogler trowel has served me much better. It's doable, of course, but being a "gotta go right now" type probably alters my perspective!

    The life water sport caps, for some reason are much more durable, and last way longer than the smart water caps.

  • @russellinthebush2897

    I don't understand the idea that dental floss is a reasonable substitute for thread. I take a bobbin of durable black thread. Its weight is negligible. I used it several times on my PCT hike, and I am very glad I didn't have to resort to using dental floss.

    What’s the process for the cream and baby powder to help?

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  5 месяцев назад +1

      pretreat the area that gets chaffed with the A&D, then a small handful of baby powder on the same spot. A&D treats the skin and lubricates and the baby powder keeps sweat at bay. I learned it on the Appalachian trail and it works great.

    Ugh... "Southern California" section (PCTA) not "desert section." Very very little of southern California is desert. Really just the western edge of the Mojave Desert around mile 500. Ryan Linn (Guthook, who founded FarOut) lives in the Pacific Northwest. He evidently doesn't know what the real desert is in Southern California.

    • @hope2someday691
      @hope2someday691 5 месяцев назад

      Desert region is defined as having rainfall of 8 inches or less.

    • @stevenvarner9806
      @stevenvarner9806 5 месяцев назад

      @@hope2someday691 That's not the chaparral in any event. Biomes are defined by habitat. California's deserts are different from the chaparral, which in California takes up more land area that other habitats, especially in San Diego, western Riverside, western San Bernardino, and Los Angeles Counties that the PCT goes through.

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  5 месяцев назад +1

      I use the term desert loosely. It's hot, low humidity and there is no shade in the southern section. Call it w/e you'd like.
