For the final song of this episode of ‘Ballad Session’, The Ronnie Drew Group perform the folk song ‘The Leaving of Liverpool’, also known as ‘Fare Thee Well, My Own True Love’.
The audience and other musical guests join in to sing along to the chorus.
‘Ballad Session’ was first broadcast in 1963 featuring traditional Irish music recorded in studio before a live studio audience.
As the titles run, the names and faces of musical artists who performed on the show appear on screen including The Ramblers (including Johnny McEvoy), Anne Mulqueen, Sharon Collen, Bobby Clancy and Seamus Ennis.
The programme was introduced by Seán Mac Réamoinn and was produced by Kevin Sheldon.
I got into this stuff a few years ago, I know just about every tune now, a Dubliners list of about 100 songs got wore out:) Between this stuff and the Clancy/Makem collection, you can't beat it! The Mary Wallopers feel like spiritual successors, hope to stumble on even more great Irish music:)

Is interesting to think that Séamus Ennis whobis innthe crowd here ended up living with Ronnie. When despite how much RTE used him they couldnt reach into their pockets and pay him enough to keep a roof over his head.
That must be one of the earliest ever studio clips from RTE. I believe that is a very young Johnny McEvoy on the right at 0.25.
