From this video to now (one month later) there were some great optimization boosts. Both models can now be used with the dock and external monitor screen, on the 950 i´ve seen all six cpu been used, and on both the new Edge browser is now running fine. I´ve been using the 950 XL as a daily PC with my dock for some days now, keyboard and mouse (and a external dvd burner!), and if the developers will get some more issues solved, i would be just super happy. If you are able to reflash it as described, it is better than lying unused on the shelf. Btw: i've watched this video with the dock and monitor without issues.
Thanks for the comment. It is so cool that the community is actively resolving the existing issues and the optimizations are fantastic. I will do a video about the dock as well and hope that I can showcase the normal Windows phone Mode and the Windows on Arm Mode.

I would like to ask you a few question:, - which build are you deployed? If it is older, can we install the chromium edge? Is your SD Card reader working? On my 950 there is the problem with low frequency of the cpu, caused by broken driver (?), updates do not work (= under 1 GHz), but maybe on the 950 XL it could work well. The team writes that updates are not recommended. I did not try the chromium edge on the earlier build, because in Nov. 2020 the re were an issue with the graphics driver, maybe the newer driver will work on older builds of Win 19, too. Just try it :-) . My SD card reader is working well on both phones, 950 and 950 XL. Not every card will work in every phone. Regards

Comparing to the 950(non-XL), it is way faster overall and in boot time. But I can not shut it down, somehow it does not finish the shutting down process.. I kept the worki g SD Card in the phone , while I deployed the OS, and now it is working perfectly fine, although the built - in disk(ssd? Memory? Idk how to call it)is literally in pieces, I have like 25 drives on it, 3 main drives and the rest are like 2-8MB. But it is working fine.
Unbelievable development. Was not happy having to move from a 950 to iPhone in 2018. iPhone died filming underwater last week, so switched back to the 950 and realised how much I prefer the UI. Perhaps if all cores now function with full W10 + phone shell I can run my banking and messenger apps that are no longer available for WP!
yeah I wondered that too, If you have an arm processor I think it should work. Though you need an arm64 processor, and things like wifi, bluetooth and the speakers probably won't work

I have put all the relevant links in the video description. You need to have a couple of hours time and at least basic understanding of how flashing and custom roms work but with the provided ressources it is pretty straight forward. Huh, that is a tricky question. The USB drivers are there and you can get driver update and support via Windows Update but I doubt it that the phone will have enough resources running and supporting the Wacom pen tablet. But at the end you will need to try it for yourself.
I've managed to install windowsArm on a raspberry pi, but booting a large os from an sd card is atrocious, and you won't be able to boot from an external ssd here... interesting none the less

It's just downloading the game of around 47gbs that will make a huge bump into my data plan that I already use for basic tasks. Games today are just WAY to big for my data plan. I'm wondering cause already go to my local retail stores where I attach to there Wifi networks and download large HD videos from RUclips, huge files, Windows 10 software, PC applications, etc. on my Android device with my VPN. It's just that carrying a laptop into a location is just too bulky, but an Android device is palm sized and felt safe to carry around with a lanyard I put on it. And I would just like to know if people already have used Microsoft Store and/or downloaded Steam and managed to download a large game file with all it's updates on a micro SD card. That way the micro SD card can be ejected and then used to transfer the large game file onto a hard drive. Then I can use it on my PC when I reinitialize the game file. Is this possible? Cause I'm not aiming for speed. I have plenty of time actually based on location and stuff. I'm just wondering if it's possible cause then this Lumia 950 would be a huge investment for my lifestyle.

Chrome OS is meant for desktop use, so it has completely different app development compared to Android that is completely focusing on mobile. Chrome OS is like a tablet where it needs to work on big screen and not all Android APK apps support it.
with some of today's flagships having as much RAM as a PC this really could be used as a basic PC for school or work purposes. The GPUs are still too weak to use them as gaming PCs though.
The Lumia 950 models were never made for Windows 10 on ARM. So this whole project bringing windows 10 to these old smartphones is kinda crazy and there was a lot of tweaking of firmware and drivers involved.
@@TheIdeaofTechnology You can install WoA on Android phones, since there is an ARM Windows version. But you need professional skills to get that perfectly working without problems and this takes years to do so.

@@samuelmarndi with this new processor this could be a beast of a phone, because now this old Lumia is having high CPU usage and that's also lowers battery life, also RAM is pretty bad, 3GB of ram means only 1GB for personal use because Windows 10 already uses 2GB, on this phone probably better idea is to install Windows 7 because uses only up to 500MB RAM when not doing anything

It's the MOFT stand. Pretty cool and simple. But obviously it is not compatible with Qi charging.

Ahh propietary drivers, well kinda imagined it wouldn't allow you to use the GPU at all.
How about the camera?
At this stage you can not use any of the cameras due to the drivers. But very soon this should be possible. Dual boot is the only option currently.
