I'm so old when someone says Fryette I think VHT Pitbull heads. :) Crushing early-mid 90s Helmet tone.
Seems like things have come a long way since my old Marshall PB100 Powerbrake. That just had one volume knob. I used it with my Carvin MTS3200 (JCM800/900 clone I rebiased hot and retubed with J&J EL34/6L6s).
Thanks as always for your videos, Euge. I wish I had access to your knowledge and videos when I was in high school in the late 90s. It would have helped a lot.

I've got the PS-2 , it's exceptional at attenuation, like you I have several 100w monsters... its also killer at powering a Quad Cortex into a cab, using a capture of said 100w amps. It sounds identical! It's like bottling vintage amp sounds in case they ever die.

    Hi Euge
Use the send and return to use preamp and amp.
There is a way to do it if you own a Synergy Syn 1 or 2. Set up the Synergy with your amp which is loaded by the Fryette. Connect the Synergy to the Fryette effects loop. Run wet effects in the Synergy unit. Allows you to switch between the preamp modules and the full loaded amp without hum or issue while using the Fryette Poweramp to drive a cabinet.
It should work with your switcher as well though.

That Freyette PS-100 is an awesome piece of gear. I currently use it with my ADA MP-1…also used to attenuate my Mesa. It can also bring more power to lower wattage tube amps as well. Will probably get a second one later as I want to build a good preamp rack strictly for that. Great work as always, Mr. Valovirta.

Those switches on the left are for the load. If switches are down, its a purely resistive load. If they are in the middle or up it makes it a reactive load.

There's now a fryette cyclops which allows the power station to be an attenuator for amps and a power amp for preamps without without having to unplug anything. Seamless integration between amps amd preamps via a khe for amps and cabs, and a morningstar ml5 to switch preamps. 4 amps, 4 cabs, 5 preamps. Then a voodoo lab gcx for pedals and all controlled via a voodoo lab ground control.

If you only need the reactive load part of it, they do have that without the power amp. It's called the Power Load PL:IR, because it is an IR loader too, although if you contact them they may still have the non IR version and it will be cheaper. Here in NZ we don't have a Freyette dealer, so they said they will sell direct when I emailed them about it (I bought my power station from Peach Guitars in the UK in the end, because they use 240v mains power like us).
If you want you can just send a line out from the Power Load to whatever power amp and cab you already have and use its level to control overall volume the same way a power station does it.
With a Power Load you could also just use a solid state power amp like Eddie Van Halen did to re-amplify his amps after they hit the load boxes, which is usually cheaper than something like a VHT tube power amp (a Seymour Duncan Power Stage for example, or you could even use the line in or FX return of a Boss Katana and then add its built in effects).
You could also send a signal to FOH, a FRFR speaker, or both.
Downside is a Power Load with the built in IR loader is not massively cheaper. I decided to just keep saving and get the single channel power station and use outboard sources for IRs.

Does this mean you can silently record or attenuate stereo amp eg mesa 2ninty or Marshall 9200 with just one ps100? I need 2x two note torpedo captor to that currently.. also is this better than st.rock react:ir?

  • @Procyon58
    @Procyon58 10 месяцев назад +1

    Hey Euge!
I was wondering why did you stopped using Reach:IR? I also own a Power Station but I feel like its reactive components are coloring the sound way too much and doesn't represent the amp sound accurately while recording in silent mode (not using cabs). From comparison videos I've seen, React:IR seems to be doing MUCH better job than Power Station. So I am considering doing the same change you did but in reverse :) Could you tell me what made you stop using React:IR and go for Power Station instead? Did you also notice inaccurate representation while recording in silent mode?
    Cheers!

Hello! Great Video! I have a question, maybe you could help. I need to reamp (different amp) my guitar tracks. I live in a flat (so, using an amp on full volume, with a real cab is not an option). I use a Two Notes Torpedo Reload to attenuate and reamp my tracks. Still, I feel like the reamped tracks sound flat, dull, not punchy and different from the real amp connected to a real cab. My question is: Which attenuator/load box/reactive load box has the closest result to a real amp, full volume with a real cabinet? I can add the cabs later. Fryette? RedSeven? UAD Ox Box? Other? Thanks in advance and cheers from Portugal!
