I was slightly more conservative that the author and avoided packing around the metal bar next to the electrical coil, as I noticed it was already pretty warm to the touch when I opened it up prior to the poly fill treatment. Also all the negative comments are just big air pump industry trying to downplay this guys great solution. They want your money to buy expensive quiet pumps when you can reduce the sound of cheap ones on your own.
Your first sound level test was with the screws undone. The top and bottom of the air pump was loose. So you would expect the air pump to make more noise.
That was something I tested off camera to see if it would make a difference with the screws tight or not (for time sake) with this particular pump it didn't make a difference
My dad mad at me because of the fish air pump. I cut a box to fit the pump also fill with noise reduce material. You gave me the idea to make more quitter.
Sometimes the noise is simply coming from the pump's feet vibrating on a table or shelf. I made my pump very quiet, by hanging it in mid air using some yarn (hung from a self near my tank). My pump had a small hole/tab molded onto the end of the base to make it easy to hang it.
You are lucky if that's all the problem. Many cheap pumps vibrate all around, not just on their feet, and hanging them will reduce the vibration, but the noise will still be loud.

Try the super silent piezo electric air pomps from hygger, nicrew etc. Another design, no membrane, but a kind of plate that shrinks and expands under current. The capacity is comparable to a 2 watt one way traditional noisy airpump. It costs about 15 euro.
I don’t think anybody would recommend this. The number one thing that you can do to lower the sound level is be careful what you set the pump on it transmits vibrations which increases the sound. Quite literally you can set it on top of a towel and that will cut a lot of noise
True, if you have more expensive pumps. But with cheap pumps the whole pump is vibrating not just the feet. So hanging them in the air still makes them vibrate and noisy. Mostly because the arm inside is hitting the casing and causing the vibration. So, this solution that is in the video is good but .... heat generated by coil won't be able to dissipate.

Absolutely stupid thing to do. This is a great way to start a house fire. While polyester is naturally fire retardant, it can and will ignite and melt given enough heat/energy (which the electromagnet will be more than happy to supply if anything goes wrong), creating a path to conduct heat to the (presumably ABS) housing and the A/C wires. Check a brand new pump, put next to a five years old running insulated one, and see whats the difference. Maybe you can't see the difference couse you got used to it in 5 years. But if you compare with a new one you can see the not intended use will couse lower efficency. Doesnt really matter, unless you breeding fishes, and if something happening with the air pump you could have huge money loss...
This did not work for me at all, and the pump runs hotter.
Once the wires lose integrity, they can begin to either short out or their resistance can increase and cause a fire.
How to burn your house down
Polyester batting is fire retardant and won't burn unless exposed to a direct flame.
That's a fire hazard.
Polyester batting is fire retardant, the chance of a fire is just as possible as if it were to catch on fire under normal conditions without it.
