The best rendition of this Russian Classic and nobody can play this work like Maestra Nikolayeva. Others can go faster but no one can play it giving it the proper accurate dynamics and interpretation as her. She wasn’t just a great pianist; she was a great musician and musicologist who understood music from within, so when she played she did as if she was the actual composer. Then Kurt Masur’s masterful conducting puts the Orchestra at the service of the music, worthy partnership between three giants of eternal music: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Tatjana Nikolayeva & Kurt Masur. A trio made in heaven!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING THE FULL VIDEO!!

Tatiana Nikolayeva is for me the Empress of the Piano. Her playing is so soulful, delicate, soft and powerful. There seems to be no limits, I'm always surprised how softly she attacks a note in the middle of a phrase. Everything is so naturally gifted without effort. And her life was also a full-time job to care about her handicapped brother. I adore her.

I can't believe I have never heard of her before. She has internalised it to the point of it making other performances sound almost mechanical.
