I think that this is in part because Quinton consciously shifted the focus in that direction more and more over time, gradually dissecting the assumed conceit, but also because I suspect that on some level he was always more interested than the historical aspect than the sensationalism despite wanting to bridge that gap, as indicated by how he talks about the genesis of the series and where his heart was as a creator from the beginning.

27:14 It's a hilarious and interesting idea for a video, but the big problem for me is that you literally made this exact premise for the iCarly i-Crimes segments throughout a span of 3 years. I can see it as an abridged version with a newer and less touched upon franchise. Juni and Carmen ABSOLUTELY need to pay for their crimes.

A video about Flash would be great. Not even a fallen titans video, but just a proper short form documentary going over the history of the software, why it became prominent, how it influenced the development of animation and game design from a niche to mass cultural scale, what it's impact on the internet and the animation and game industries is, what people are doing to preserve this history. You could collab with the animation RUclipsrs, so you got that brand synergy going on. But most importantly, done in the style of your Dan Schneider video, which is to the point, carefully handled, and thorough.

It’s really interesting to hear 2019-2020 described as “The Dark Ages” of the Quinton Reviews channel, since that’s around when I got into it (I think technically a little before then, since iirc the first vid I ever watched on the channel was the Ready Player One book review) and it might be my favorite era of the channel.
The willingness to experiment and just talk about whatever was a lot of fun and gave the channel a good amount of variety; there was something really fun about following a channel where it felt like the next video could truly be about anything, whereas with the “Modern Era,” there was a good period where I kinda got burned out and fell behind because I didn’t want to exclusively hear Quinton talk about Nickelodeon sitcoms for such a long time.
Additionally, I liked the collaborations Quinton would do during that era with people like Saltydkdan, LS Mark, Worthikids, etc, who I hadn’t heard of when Quinton collabed with them, and then ended up following later on.
The lack of a consistent focus for the channel did have its downsides of course, but I think it’s worth shining a bit of a spotlight on the positive aspects that came with it as well.
As for my favorite Quinton Reviews video, if I had to pick one, it probably would have to be the Garfield History one; the narrative elements of it flowed well, the historical elements were fascinating, and it’s just such a uniquely “Quinton” video, both in subject and style. It’s honestly hard to pick a favorite, though.
For an honorable mention, I wanna shout-out Requiem For A Themed McDonald’s, cause I haven’t seen anyone in the comments talk about it, but it’s a banger and I still think about it and the companion video with Max Krieger whenever I drive by a McDonald’s that still uses the old 2000s design.

So many people have done Barbie lore videos where they CLAIM to watch every movie. But they ALWAYS skip the first one! I don't know if it's because it's technically a for-TV movie or what but more people should talk about it. It's about Barbie being an ambassador for world peace in the 80s and then travelling back in time to the 60s, destroying the future timeline, and making sure her brand identity is perpetual from that point on so that she can continue to rule. It's so dystopian if you read between the lines and I want to see more people make videos about it! Not to mention the music slaps.

On "The Spy Kids Commit War Crimes"
If you're gonna do that, structure it similar to the icrimes. Like, go over the movies, point out the strangeness of hard lines coming out of A-list actors for something that's bordering on B-movie cheesiness, and at the end tally up the war crimes.
Though, if you wanna go all-in, go over the other Rodriguez movies, see what you get out of it.
    On "Neopets"
It seems like this falls under what I call "Total Eclipse of the Brand". Why can't X company or individual do Y thing? Because it doesn't fit the brand. I mostly think of Disney when I say it since there have been multiple times over the years where Disney has tried X thing and it doesn't pan out because it doesn't fit the brand of "Disney".

I always got the sense that he was essentially just his name. Not trying to sound rude about it. I'm sure the videos he made were all well and good enough at least for the time period, but the fact that so many people who recognize the name nowadays still don't fully understand who Kassem G actually was seems to give credence to this theory. "Everyone knows Kassem G, I'll get him to cameo in this video, that would be funny." This is just my reductive speculation, though. I'd also extend this speculation to apply to most of the bigger youtubers in the "vlog" era of ~2008-2011.

To be honest I think a Neopets video could fit right in on the channel - there's a lot of history with the site itself and a lot of in game lore to look at, and personally I always find it so interesting how it seems like despite that the story of not just Neopets but games they directly poked at as competitors like Pokemon what it seems like most people look back on is their own personal story of their beloved pets and not any of the in-game lore and story itself

Easily my top picks were the Spy Kids War Crimes or the Clippy video. My best friend and I watched some iCarly like 8 years ago, and we were counting up the crimes - not as finely as you did, but we still were like "hey, that's not legal, they should get in trouble!" And then years later, one of my friends now, who knows I like (well... used to like) the show was like, "there's a dude on RUclips who made a 5 hour video about the crimes of iCarly" and he was wrong about the overall content of the video, but obviously I watched the entire video the next day while coding at work, and well... here I am today. So the crimes of children's media is an odd genre I'm now kind of in love with entirely thanks to the iCrimes stuff lol
The Clippy thing is mostly because I'm a programmer who is too young to have ever experienced Clippy but I've heard the horror stories and Bonzi Buddy killing Clippy is just hilarious to me.

Honestly I would have liked your take on Barbie. What I think makes the iCarly series stand out from other hours long video essays is that you don't just look at the media itself, but at the cultural context the media was part of, and I think looking at something like barbie through that lenses would not only be an interesting look at her as a character and a product, but also how America's idea of the ideal woman has evolved over time.

Here’s the thing about the creationist tourism idea: I’m an avid Oh No Ross And Carrie listener. I would’ve EATEN THAT UP. I can never get enough of content about weird religious/spiritual movements, pseudoscience, fringe spiritual leaders, cults, and so on. I actively get hype when creators cover stuff like that because it’s fascinating, and I’ll enjoy like 7 different pieces of coverage on Teal Swan or whatever and still gleefully jump on an eighth if I come across it. Yes, of course I’ve heard about a lot of the possible sites in that video, but I wouldn’t mind hearing again (and again and again). I’m so rabid for this stuff that when I got a flyer for a 7th Day Adventist event in the mail, I had to get friends to talk me down from going stealth just for funsies. Not to make my own reporting on it or anything, JUST for the fun of it.
… Obviously I realize this is a wildly uncommon stance and that the video probably isn’t a good idea for the channel now, but it doesn’t mean I won’t be longing for the universe where it happened.

I honestly feel so validated hearing you talk about the Hot Daga because what's so interesting that if you go back and rewatch the Hot Daga, you can see the bare bones of ideas that Shane reused for the "lore" in Puppet History. Ideas like characters coming back as holograms or time travel and just little stuff like that that I find fascinating. But yeah Buzzfeed Unsolved was GOAT, it;s hard to get into the stuff they do nowadays because it feels like they're a bit of tryhards trying to recapture the old magic. Love Puppet History, but you can only hunt so many ghosts lol.

I had always hoped for a TheWineKone fallen titans. I can't think of another example of a youtuber that just.. slowed down and never seemed stressed about the fact that he just let his channel go from front page to obscurity and just... NEVER leave character.

I totally agree with you about Barbie movie, it was somehow.... empty. There was no Skipper or Stacy or black and white Midge. The Dreamhouse parody show is pretty epic. About 10 years ago I watched some kid channel where they made a whole sitcom with irl barbies lol I have no idea why I watched that but it was actually well written considering it was just kids.

    Regarding your "dark era":
2019 was a pretty dark time for me as well. It was the first time I was living by myself, and I was living over 8 hours from my support system growing up. I tend to be very socially awkward, so once I had WiFi in my apartment, I watched a crap ton of RUclips videos, and I think it was around this time that I really began engaging with your content on the regular.
To me, it's a very profound realization that the content of yours for which I feel a great deal of nostalgia (because of it helping me through a dark time in my own life) was not a great time mentally for you either. I'm glad you're better, I'm relieved I'm no longer in that place physically and mentally, and I wanted to thank you for your content over the half decade I've been subscribed.

First of all I just wanna say it's comforting in a weird way to hear someone else who had their lowest point in 2019. Just because I see so many people that are like "2019 was so amazing it was the last good year before covid ruined everything" meanwhile 2019 was also an abysmal year for me. I'm also doing much better now so solidarity, Quinton!
Secondly the spy kids war crimes video would absolutely be a hit now and would love to see that. I'd also love to see Fallen Titans Clippy but I agree that wouldn't fit now.

I'm at around the 23:20 mark of the video, and your talk about how it's engaging and really fun to go into deep dives about lore for stories that don't deserve it really hits home to me.
I'm a fan of a bunch of stories that are either 1) deceptively stupid and yet there's a thread of deep meaning/emotion under the surface level (Homestuck used to be this, the Kirby franchise used to be this before its lore became common knowledge) OR 2) Actually shallow and stupid content that nevertheless had loose threads and pot stuff that fans would latch onto and make far deeper and more emotional than needed (I love RadioTVSolutions stuff)

Honestly seeing a peek into your "quality control" so to say has been pretty enlightening in terms of what does get published.

I have tuned in for every video of yours that I could since whenever the Thinning came out because I was just soooo intrigued by YT Purge. And then I went back through all the videos you had done before and I've been tuning into everyone since.
And that didn't even feel that long ago, but I was so satisfied by the Quinton Lore movie I was like... "Oh wow... I like really love Quinton reviews"
And I have been betrayed by tons of creators, but there are creators that will post monthly to yearly that I just get around to... But I move things around when I find out you have a new main channel video.
And like... Listening to you talk about your seasons I was once again like "Oh wow... I AM SUCH A FAN!"
I would have loved it if all of these videos could have existed, but I'll be so happy for whatever else you make.
    Keep it up!!

If it’s any consolation, that 2019 span of content was when you made the Garfield lost media video and was the first time I had actually sat down and watched something you made and I’ve been watching consistently ever since. I’m just one guy but I have friends who’s first exposure to you was that video too so I’m sure lots of people share this. I’m sorry to hear that year in particular was so bad for you but the stuff you made during that time was still quality and even if maybe you didn’t like it right after posting it, it made a lot of people happy :)

This is such a fascinating point of view as an artist... in art school, im being taught to save all of ur ideas, all ur thumbnails and concepts, cause even if it doesnt work for this assignment, you might use it later. And ive done that! Ive spent hours re-conceptualizing just for a professor to look at an old idea i never finished and tell me "this is it, why didnt you show this to me first?"
And as a person in fandom culture, i rewatch videos with the same premise over and over because each person has something different to say! Especially with fanfiction (ik weird comparison sorry) but i remember authors apologizing for rehashing the same "washed up" tropes as everyone else and everyones response is like "no, i came here for this. U are doing the lords work for us thank you"
Like... idk. It makes me sad to hear Quinton say how all of these suck and are stupid because they all sound FASCINATING to me (especially clippy killed by bonsai buddy i literally stared at the wall with my mouth dropped when i heard that). I know its hard to manage imposter syndrome as a creative, but like. There are people at ny art school who look at each other like "omg did yoh watch the new quinton video" "dude im gonna listen to it during homework tonight i have a painting due tomorrow and this video is the only thing thats gonna get me through it-" even topics that i dont fully have an interest in i would watch just because i know this silly internet man is funny and itll keep me entertained while i work and make the hours pass by with a little more serotonin.
I dont really know what im trying to get at here anymore i just want Quinton to know that his work is valued, even beyond that of just content. There are people who appreciate him and what he does because its HIM, not because its a topic they like. There are people like me who consider themselves fans of his and his work, like they would an artist! And i wanna watch those videos!!!
(I also respect that they are products of a past Quinton tho and would not encourage him to take up projects that remind him of darker times. Please be nice to yourself man)
