If anyone has any questions about the hike stick them in the comments and I'll do my best to answer them :-) Don't forget to watch the original 'no talking' Sarek film here ruclips.net/video/senFjtwASHQ/видео.htmlsi=TZpHVqe9nKZMeshZ
Thanks. Slightly out of my comfort zone in this one. You should definitely get up to Sarek. Another place worth a wander is west of Nikkaluokta. You can climb Kebnekaise (highest mountain in Sweden) from there. I climbed it way back in 2005 in winter.
Great guide video! I earlier watched the "teaser" and think that it's nice to have one silent video just for impressions and ambience, and then another video (or a blog post) this that gives more detailed info, instead of attempting to do both in a single video. Great job, thanks!
Loved this Jim, very insightful, Sarek is on my list to visit next year or 2026, if you ever need a companion / bag carrier 😜 count me in! Also popping back up to the West Coast in April and June I’ll be sure to let you know if you’re about! All the best.
Great video with lots of information just giving an inkling of what it is like in Sarek. Enjoyed your chat and descriptions but that old map stole the show, I always like to have map of where I have been , often it's better than a photograph to jog the memories. Cheers
It was good to hear your voice and it added to the footage and great editing. Maybe some trips will have the 'voice' and some not. They are your videos, enjoy making them and I am sure people will enjoy watching them ... they have so far. Cheers
@@johnyoung6498 thanks. It’s lovely that people are enjoying them. I think I’ll stick to my original style most of the time but throw in the occasional one with a bit more talking.
Brilliant, and somewhat funny - that tattered map is an instant classic. I used to watch a silent hiker called Erik Normark who did beautiful films of northern Sweden, very attentive to wildlife. And I almost signed up to a Mariposa Nature Tours 2025 trip to see such special far northern butterflies as Frigga's, Thor's, and Frejya's Fritillaries, but it sold out on the day of release while I prevaricated for twenty minutes (the cost, you know). The weather you had makes me think my alternative trip to Valencia may have something to say for it. (The reflective tone in which you said "You can't really use that toilet" was so funny.)
Me trying to open the map took about two whole minutes so I had to edit it down quite a bit! Funny you should mention Erik Normark. I was binge watching some of his films today. He's got a lovely gentle style. And I like that he has barely any music, just the sounds of the wind and the birds. Beautiful. Hope he makes more films.
@@Jim_Manthorpe-hiking (You probably know, but for anyone else reading these comments.) Erik Normark became more and more fatigued by his hikes, and was diagnosed with a heart irregularity. I think he had to wait for his operation, you will have seen that he was releasing videos a year ago, but nothing arduous being attempted. Nothing since then. He had a great eye for natural beauty, as you do. A great drinker of 'cowboy coffee': I always wanted him to go a two man hike incorporating a strong coffee drinking contest with Harmen Hoek. Each video featured him making coffee, and then giving a slow thumbs up at the first sip. Be lovely to see him back, just watching and listening (and drinking maybe a de-caff, all things considered). People who know and love the wilderness, and have the gift to share it are so valuable.
@@roybooth7904 yes, I like his coffee drinking interludes. I’ve actually just been out today to film in the woods and I made some coffee myself - inspired by Erik Normark. I hope he can get his health issues sorted and return to making films.
I might do something similar for the Picos, Pyrenees and Norway/Sweden but I'll see how this one goes down first. I feel more comfortable doing the quiet films!

If only I was able to get such great video for the many trips I've planned. My dear sir, you're a lifesaver! Thank you so much for sharing!!!!
Thanks Vincent. Very kind of you to say and very happy that you enjoyed watching :-)
Brilliant Jim. Great advice. Love that you hiked at the end of summer. Here's hoping 🙂
Best time of year in that part of the world.
Fantastic presentation man, thumbnail is fantastic as well! Sarek is high on my bucket list together with Abisko!

Have a great time in Sarek. Hopefully I'll be back up that way some time soon. Yes, give me a shout when you are on the west coast.
Fantastic adventure Jim cheers 👍
Thanks. Plenty of scope for adventure there.
Wow what an amazing place and fantastic experience thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching. It's a wonderful place to explore.

I love my maps, even the ones that are in a dozen pieces!

Sarek is a fantastic landscape in the northern sweden. I like this place. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful landscape, I agree. I'm sure I'll go back.

Very interesting, Jim. Something a little different. Will you be doing a similar type of video for your other European adventures?
