    The solo in this song is so underrated. Feels like the kinda solo that non guitarists appreciate massively as well

    This guy really likes arpeggioes, and plays them damn well.

  • @Metalbutty

    One of those guitarists I could happily sit and watch play all day, just brilliant. The fact that you've took time out to do lessons of your songs is so great, makes fans appreciate you and the band even more.

    The fact that you play in standard E, to me just puts you above the rest. You prove you don't have to stoop down to fucking A# to be heavy as fuck, heavy yet very melodic. Something the Metal world seems to be lacking, melody. Great one!

    • @Wrathofkala
      @Wrathofkala 9 лет назад +16

      You took the words right outta my mouth. Down tuning has produced many great songs but Sylosis proves you don't need to down tune to be heavy. Dave Mustaine has also said this for years might I add...

    • @themaggot8
      @themaggot8 9 лет назад +3

      Rican GuitarGod And yet Mustaine is playing in D standard. Not a very good example.

    • @Cr4nium13
      @Cr4nium13 9 лет назад +6

      Juan José Fonseca Godoy
      D standard is just standard lower to make things easier to sing, there's no drop A chugging bullshit.

      Cr4nium13 And yet Mustaine is singing like shit.

    I've never looked at inverted power chords that way. I always see it as a fourth, this opens up so many possibilities musically.

    someone showed this to me while livestreaming on twitch and now I'm fucking hooked on your band dude
    Those two notes that link the shapes that you play with the same finger but they're next to each other, and it's a super fast move, that's the thing I need help with and no one brings it up, everyone else can just do it! To me that's the hardest part and where everything falls apart

    10:04 - 10:57 Very interesting part where Josh explains the way how he considers that sweep picking should be incorporated into music or at least how he does it in his music (Syslosis). Who would agree on this interpretation? I do!

    Nice video! That sweep is just godly clean!
    Quick question: why not use a 7-string instead of using inverted power chords?

    • @xx2
      @xx2 10 лет назад +20

      why ? they played everything in standard E . The fashion of 7 and 8 strings guitar is enough i am glad for bands like Sylosis which stick with standard tuning

    • @kayssj2
      @kayssj2 10 лет назад

      well you can use a 7 string and still play the song in E, just using the extra string to add that low sound they look for when using inverted power chords.

    • @JoshMiddletonOfficial
      @JoshMiddletonOfficial  10 лет назад +37

      KadizKovers
      I'm not into 7 strings. Firstly, I like being in E and I like the sound of inverted power chords, and secondly, I like classic looking guitars and gear. I just don't like 7 or 8 strings for our kind of music. We're not that kind of band at all. Personal preference.

    Does anyone know if he starts the second arpeggio on the 9th or 10th fret of the fifth string? It looks like he starts on the tenth but it doesn’t sound right

    • @v.harlot

      That's the B minor arpeggio, so it's 9

  • @ShawnJonesHellion

    why do you use the pinky to do the traditional power chord at the start and not the ring finger?

    • @NutsTesticles
      @NutsTesticles 8 лет назад +1

      I use my pinky for power chords too. Leaves my stronger fingers ready and in a better position for other chord changes and embellishments.

    • @Naddoniz
      @Naddoniz 7 лет назад

      NutsTesticles I have small hands and short fingers. I am also more a bass player then a guitar player. But when I do pick up a guitar, I naturally lean towards playing power chords with my pinkie. It makes it easier to keep my wrist straight.

    • @ShawnJonesHellion
      @ShawnJonesHellion 7 лет назад

      i didnt think about freeing up the stronger fingers. I am always thinking about playing in a way to eventually stretch my fingers as far as i can i guess.

    • @mickm8028
      @mickm8028 7 лет назад

      +Shawn Jones he does the inverted power chord with his pinky , this means he only needs to add his other finger on the string above to turn it into a traditional powerchord
