    I love the turkeys. We have a wild turkey in our yard that joins us for morning coffee on our patio. He eats shelled unsalted peanuts directly from the table while standing in between our chairs. If he wants more and we aren't quick enough, he pecks our arms to hurry us along. He also eats from the palm of our hands. If no one is in the yard with him and he wants company, he pecks on the sliding glass back door. He's special :)

      @@selfretired3025 you needn’t be so vindictive! We all are free and encouraged to comment what we would like to see in dusty’s videos! Dunbar got a raw deal being given only a couple cows when big joe is given 22

    • @selfretired3025
      @selfretired3025 Месяц назад +4

      @debannas4567 I'm not trying to come across harshly. It's reality. We all know the pastures at OG have the beef herd also and land can only sustain so many. It also seems it might not occur to some that bulls get rotated so they're not breeding with their daughters. He made the right decision... for all involved, including everything he kept tearing up. I'm sincere when I say "at least he kept him" but I don't think viewers always understand what is involved with ranching + videos + birds + family +++ when they make requests like this after showing Dunbar recently so everyone knew he was Well and Not Alone. Be more sensitive to THEM and everything they're doing to share their lives with us. Respect is given.

    • @debannas4567
      @debannas4567 Месяц назад +4

      @@selfretired3025 that doesn’t mean we don’t want to see him and be kept apprised of how he’s doing. How dare you suggest I don’t understand how bulls are rotated. I’m not a “city girl”!

    • @selfretired3025
      @selfretired3025 Месяц назад +3

      @debannas4567 things should not be taken personally when they are not stated as being personal. I was thinking about all the people who agreed with the comment. You're worked up. Try reading it again when you can imagine my peaceful tone vs however you are taking it. I am not "who you are used to dealing with". I just don't understand why we feel we can ask a RUclipsr with a family and a ranch with all kinds of responsibilities to make a special trip "in their spare time". To me, it seems disrespectful... but I know your intention is pure.

    This is what I love about you and Marissa, you are always learning about the natural state of the ranch, you are returning the land to its natural state you are working to reintroduce core natural species to the land and all of that is so important to rejuvenate the land and make it healthy so it can sustain the herd and all the native wildlife and plants. You’ve accomplished so much in a short amount of time and by the looks of it, it’s working your herd is healthy, your land is getting to where it should be and your hard work and eagerness to learn is paying off. I hope more ranchers do the same. If we want a healthy food supply we have to have healthy land.

    I never ever did understand why people think they could cuddle up to ANY animal they don't know and who is obviously not tame. Glad you made the disclaimer and if seeing how cautious you are with animals you know EXTREMELY well doesn't compute, I don't know what will. Watching footage of some of these encounters makes me wonder how in the world they even managed to get to whatever age they are at. Sad part is, many times the animals pay a huge price for a stupid human's actions.

    I think yes nutrient density is at peak in heat of day as that's when least water is in it, I believe best palatability (taste) is still early morning. Picking veggies from garden taste better in mornings . not bison but my grass eating animals prefer morning grass vs late afternoon grasses anyhow.

At that time it was one of the highest corn producing areas in the country, and home of DeKalb Agriculture corn hybridizing. I would occasionally stop by a field and pick up a handful of soil, look at it, smell it. The soil was dead, no insects, no "soil" smell, I assume from liberal use of fertilizers and insecticides. All turkeys are difficult to hatch in an incubator. Nature tends to do the best so if you do ever get more eggs, consider getting a couple of broody turkey hens and they'll hatch those babies for you! We got ten poults hatched from twelve eggs by using a domestic turkey hen to incubate. I've also been told Silkie hens will hatch just about anything when they go broody! Gotta consider all your options😁!

    Nothing much to say this time other than to say I love watching all of your videos in between catching them when they're current or having to go back and watch I don't think I've ever missed an episode. Love the work you're doing with the Bison

    Loving Big Joe… I love that he likes Marissa for scratches. Why not? Everyone wants to be appreciated, especially BJ…..He’s a hard working Dude. I think most people know that they can’t go up to a buffalo in the wild for a Pat, maybe not. You guys have a special rapport with the mature buffaloes… especially Dunbar, miss seeing his face…
