Great for making lightweight greeblies from existing greeblies...I want to do a Star Wars themed cooler that can stand up to real world use, and molded greeblies sounds great for that. Radio Shack used to sell a nibbler that would work on thin soft metals and plastic..for cutting square holes in project boxes.
a cooler would be such a fantastic build!!!!!! I may have to make one too, but i'm waiting to see what awesomeness you come up with first! Love the bit about the nibbler, i never thought about soft metals.
Here's a great greebly source: Go to any auto supply store like O'Reilys, Advance Auto or AutoZone see if they collect the empty containers for a/c pro refrigerant or similar product (they could have other collected items as well). Thanks to your encouragement, I've had my first try at mold making. I am considering a degassing chamber, but am confused by all the choices. What size do you use? Glass lid or acrylic lid? On some models the valve connects to the side of the chamber and others it is in the lid. what is the difference. I really appreciate your channel. You are doing a great job. The projects are fantastic and your production values are top notch. Keep it up.
Hi There, those are all great questions. I started with a small degassing chamber, and i'll be honest . . . i wasn't happy. It was too small for a lot of what I did, but i have found that even when i am pouring smaller molds I like having the room for the material to fully expand, and the larger unit allows for that height. This 5 gallon unit seems to be perfect, and I love it: amzn.to/2vJkZk4. It also has the plexiglass top, and I really like that. All in all, i would recommend the bigger vessel if you can swing it. Sorry I have dyslexia sometimes it is quite small it out right my question was drill out the center of the mold that you just made the greebly put in a clear resin and then with the LED or would that wreck I would that wreck the peace.
@@joedoub No, it would not wreck the piece at all. You could 100% do that with an LED. The great thing about this technique is all the options you have with the parts afterward. Drilling and cutting the resin is super easy to do. This would totally work!
Thank you so much, we are thrilled to hear you liked your beskar. These are 100% going on the store. I have to make a couple of adjustments, but they will be up in a little kit by the end of the month.
@@TheSmugglersRoom Hey, it works for Randy Cooper, who makes that great Rebels Ghost model kit, among other things! People can buy a set of greeble masters from such builders to recast the bits for use on their own projects.
If you have a high profile part but don’t necessarily need the entire depth, make the initial casting (just of that part not the entire unit) in plaster, it’s cheap, soft, and really easy to alter after casting. Also, making a silicon mold of just the taller part allows you to do just a partial depth casting with minimal mold material. Yes, it’s an extra couple of steps before obtaining a finished mold but if materials are a concern it can be very worth it. When I took moldmaking in college our professor always pushed us to cast in plaster before even touching resin. No point in using expensive material just to test a new mold.
All fantastic points. Thank you so much for that. I never considered not molding all the way to the top, make so much sense. I'll have to give the plaster a shot too. Much appreciated!
@@TheSmugglersRoom considering how much plaster you can get for the price of even a “trial size” resin kit? Definitely worth experimenting with. Save the expensive stuff for final runs. Us geeks rarely have “extra” money laying around, better to save what you can and free up the budget to be used elsewhere. Plaster is also REALLY easy to carve, especially when it hasn’t dried out yet-great for adding details. If you have a component that you’re particularly fond of molding just that piece is great for making new assemblies especially if it’s not one that you have extra of.
I love these videos! Every time I see you posted a video, I get inspired to work on my own projects! Speaking of, I've been planning an RX pilot droid, do you think styrene would work for the body?
I usually follow the style that the prop makers did when they made blasters, which is to have a “hero” side that has all the details, and then a simple side with only a couple things. That way it also slides into a holster easiest. So you could do some low profile additions to it, but keep it really simple.
you should look for older electric organs on craigslist...many times you can get them for free...and a lot of them have some crazy awesome stuff inside...plus a pre made work desk or consol
Quick question... How does one get their hard drive motor apart?... I have it out of the hard drive but it still spins... cant get it apart any further, help would be greatly appreciated!
I have not actually taken any apart. When I bought several in a box from eBay some of them came separated, but I honestly don’t know how they did that. Sorry.

They always Roll their eyes and laugh. It helps break up the work stresses. I also do this with my Grand Kids and they always say the same thing... "Not FUNNY Grandpa!" Thank you so much, we are thrilled to hear you liked your beskar. These are 100% going on the store. I have to make a couple of adjustments, but they will be up in a little kit by the end of the month.
I was just about to inquire about greeblies in the store!
Thank you! Styrene would be great, you can even make the inner structure from it with enough planning and patience.
kick butt man
Thank you!
great sound, do you use a lav mic?
Thank you, we use a Rode VideoMic, and it works incredibly well. Here is a link: amzn.to/2FXT2qx
I’m building a blaster, one side is decked out but the other side is blank. Any ideas for what I could use?
I usually follow the style that the prop makers did when they made blasters, which is to have a “hero” side that has all the details, and then a simple side with only a couple things. That way it also slides into a holster easiest. So you could do some low profile additions to it, but keep it really simple.
Awesome as always! So can I order some greeblies soon? ;~)
Thank you! Yes, we have them in our store. They are temporarily out of stock, but we'll have them back in a couple weeks.
Great video. Do you have a link for the nibbler?
Thank you. Sorry I completely forgot that link in the description, here you go: (this is an affiliate link) amzn.to/3ahqeqX
Awesome thanks boss. The only one I found was $70. That one is way better 😝
you should look for older electric organs on craigslist...many times you can get them for free...and a lot of them have some crazy awesome stuff inside...plus a pre made work desk or consol
Oooh! That’s a great idea! Thanks for that!
you to deadly Brus love your clips...
Hey. Where (apart from Futurama) can I find a nibbler please...?
Sorry about that, I completely forgot to put it in the description, here you go: (this is an affiliate link) amzn.to/3ahqeqX
Please do a starwars lifter please haha. Love ur video!!!
LOL, it's on the list . . . I promise!
Sorry.
@@TheSmugglersRoom Don't be sorry! I'll figure it out and post it here for all!
“I like building something out of nothing.” Well said!!!
Thank you!
The Smugglers Room keep it up dude! I enjoy watching you work your manic.
The cap to my daughter's apple sauce packet. I was about to throw it in the recycle bin and was like... "wait, if I paint this grey or silver........"
There you go!!!
A cheap Anet A8 3d printer is also great for making these.
YES! Great idea!
Whoa!! How did my name get taken off the patreon list? I thought the money would be taken off my card number monthly. Brian what do I need to do to correct this?
OH NO!! Tracy, that is totally my fault. When I updated the names I totally missed the second page on my end and didn't double check it. There are several folks I left off by accident. So sorry about that . . . I'm an idiot!
@@TheSmugglersRoom No worries Brian! I just want to make sure I am donating to the cause!!
Yes... as others have stated... I too LOVE the mix of UBER-VALUABLE Info with the "Goofy Humor" as that's MY Kind of humor!
My fiancée and I are JUST Like this!
I work building specialty and custom electrical harnesses for applications in the Aero-Space, Aeronautics, Medical and Scientific industries. And often to make people roll their eyes and laugh I insert some small part into my nose... then go up to them and say, "Hey I'm having a bit of a problem with this part! Can you help me?" They always Roll their eyes and laugh.
It helps break up the work stresses. I also do this with my Grand Kids and they always say the same thing... "Not FUNNY Grandpa!" But they always laugh at my silliness!
Life is WAYYY to short as was evident this past week in the passing of MY All time FAV and Inspirational Drummer/Percussionist/Lyricist and Writer, Neil Peart of the band RUSH! He was only 67 and suffered with brain cancer for the past 3.5 years. His passing will be felt for the rest of MY life as he was ALSO a friend and Mentor for my past soon to be 42 yrs. of Drumming!
So don't EVER "Grow Up". Because it eventually leads to the inevitable.
'Nuff Said.
Joe
Hi Joe! Thank you so much. We really appreciate it. We’ve always said that if we were going to do this we wanted to share the goofy side of ourselves, if nothing else to bring a little smile to someone’s day. So glad I’m not alone. Thank you for watching!
You are MOST WELCOME Brian. Yea... to ME a life without a sense of humor is NO life at all!
I LOVE watching your Vids. Now my Fiancée Cathie likes watching them too! :D
I missed seeing the 0000 steel wool buff shots- forgot to film it? lol
I KNOW!!! Ugh . . . i had a bit of camera issues towards the end and missed a few things, including that.
S'all good brother 😂
Please say these greeblies are available for order on your site!?
Thank you. They will be by the end of the month. I’m making a couple of improvements and then we’ll have a nice little collection you can pick up for your projects
@@TheSmugglersRoom Fantastic! Can't wait to add them.
And those of us that 3D PRINT GREEBLIES, don't forget they can be scaled down for SW terrain for wargaming 😆
Absolutely!!!! Great idea!
how long does it take for a mold to dry.
The data sheet suggests about 6 hours, but I guess volume would make the times vary.
Sorry, i should have included that. @davecybermunky is correct, they say 6 hours, but I typically give the silicone mold a full 12 hours, or overnight to cure. That has been super successful. The SmoothCast 300 that I used for the resin pieces cures in about 10 min, and after 20 min those pieces are ready to rock'n roll!
@@TheSmugglersRoom: Thanks
I would like to make a mini battle droid
That would be a great project!
the tool is for guitar frets
Really? Sweet!!!
I’ve heard them called greeblies and kibble.
Also: up next, vacuformed greebs?
@@FamineStudios LOVE IT!
I had not actually heard kibble before . . . but I think that makes perfect sense.
Yep! As in "Kibbles and Bits" Or also "Bitz". Either way they all add up to VERY COOL Indescript or undescribed things! :D
LOVE these Vidz. PLEASE keep them coming!
Joe
Don’t forget to checkout Crafsman Steady Craftin. He has great videos on molds as well.
Oooh, thank you. I had not heard of that channel. I will certainly give it a look. Thank you!
sometimes you want bigger greeblies
Indeed!!!
lol, getting into "techwear" are you?
LOL . . . trying😉
Don't think of it as using a lot of silicone, think of it as having unlimited tall greeblies. That's a much better thing.
🤣🤣🤣 I like it!
You should’ve called this “fantastic greebles and where to find them” like fantastic beasts
that's why we picked "Great Greeblies," seemed to fit right in that fantastic beasts.
