I have to admit my favorite foods are very highly processed plants. The plants are shredded, moistened and then fermented. The fermented slurry is then ground and finally broken down further in acid. Then, in a biochemical process I must admit I don't fully understand, it is broken down and then transformed into protein and fat, which in addition to being nutritious, is truly delicious. It does sound pretty yucky, but it is actually completely natural and 100% organic. The complex mechanical and chemical "factory" that makes this 100% plant based food is called Bos Taurus, although most people just call it "cow."

My thinking about healthy food started a few years ago and was triggered by two things: I purchased a new kitten and I was diagnosed with DT2. In my search for good food for the kitten, I read that cats are pure carnivores, but looking at the labels in catfood I found that a big part of this industrial catfood was made out of plant material. That rang a bell and was the start of my own A1C dropping from 7 to 5 and the rest of beneficial aspects. My cat eats only fresh grassfed meat. I do the same with about 10% of other plant-based foods added. We are both feeling healthy as lions.

After my gallbladder was removed I started having severe bloating eating raw fruits and vegetables.. Instantly after it was Avacado, broccoli, and watermelon. One bite and within 15 minutes I bloated so bad I could barely breathe. As the years have passed the list has grown to pretty much all raw friuts and vegetables and raw nuts! Meat never hurts...high fat never causes any digestive issues...but raw plants cause a lot pain

Such a great video ! I simply never want plants anymore ! I am not against them , but I have not a craving for veggies or fruit for almost 2 years ! I will eat some occasionally when I am at an event or out… but it’s so strange, living on salad and veggies all my adult life , and I care less now ….and I also realized I obviously had a plant fiber intolerance because I always tended to lean towards constipation . I don’t have any issues eating animal based ! Thank you for guiding me these last years ! 57 and never felt or looked better !

I never had issue eating animal based foods in general (processed with nitrates or not). Dairy based food, no issue either (just some lactose problem, but not severe, don't get any effects from full-fat, but low-fat I get a mild reaction). Plant based? I do well on avocados and olives. Berries, and many soft fruits, no issues. Starchy tubers like potato, sweet potato, yams, carrots, beets, no issues either.
Most nuts and seeds, legumes, above ground vegetable (especially kale), and raw hard fruits like apple and most grains (expect white rice, I do well on that, just a starch). Is it me, or do they really cause gut issue? When I eat such foods, and its mostly vegetable, grains (especially the whole kind), nuts and seeds, and legumes, I have gut issues. Most junk food even causes me issues cause most of them are grain-based and seed oil based.
No issue so far having a soft drink, fruit juices, sport drinks, occasional ice cream and flavored yogurt, chocolate bar that isn't filled with seed oil.

Most grains and nuts are addictive. To bring this home, I point out that grains were hybridized and domesticated at noon, and alcohol was derived from them at 12:01 on the historical timepiece. Animals are for food, thriving and companionship, plants are for drugs, surviving and poisons.

It is pleasant to hear someone share common sense. After going carnivore a few years ago literally saving my life, I started asking myself similar questions. Even in school, well in my time at school, we were taught man was a hunter gather. Should have been a red flag then a out all the plants and processed foods, but like most still today we just trusted that the FDA always acted in our best interests. Most people I have talked to about it generally think our degree of modern farming has been around for thousands of years. Now I see plant based diets as starvation food. Just enough nutrition to greatly reduce the rate of death from starvation but still creating so many other health issues.

You are EXTREMELY right! Our species became carnivore millions of years ago and with the discovery of fire, we started to increase our utilization of that meat and grew our brains. It wasn’t until maybe 10,000 years ago did we start to grow grains. Unfortunately, we changed our grains in the 60’s & 70’s through genetic engineering to produce a more toxic wheat plant. I’m a T1 diabetic and can still remember leaning carb counting, now I’m carnivore and say I don’t eat carb’s so why count them. It's amazing just how few plant foods are edible beyond fruits. Nearly everything in the grocery store was bred and enhanced over centuries. A handful of grains existed in very limited geographic areas, some tubers, some leafy plants like cabbage. Many things didn't exist in Africa, Europe, or Asia until they were brought back during colonial times, such as corn, potatoes, etc. Try looking up what vegetables (not grains) medieval peasant grew in Europe...maybe five things. A kind of carrot, turnips, peas, tiny onions, not much else.

While most of the plants one finds in a grocery store have been heavily hybridized, there are still plenty of wild edible plants out there. The black walnuts, hickory and acorns are still there. Wild blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and service berries. That, and a number of things we call "weeds" are actually edible like dandelions and chickory.
Omnivorous animals like bear and bore consume as much mast as possible to fatten up before winter.

    • @raraavis7782
      @raraavis7782 2 года назад +5

Probably because we are descended from mostly plant eating animals. Way, way back, of course. But while our intestinal tract shrank considerably, as our diets changed...it may just have never shortened to the length of that of true carnivores like cats.
I mean, we are omnivores, if arguably with a strong preference for animal foods. With rare exceptions, we have always eaten some amount of plant food - because we could and it helped us to survive. At certain times and in certain climates, tubers and fruits might even have been our main staples (think tropical climates). At other times and in other places, we would have eaten mainly meat. Evolution doesn't get rid of features, that help with survival.
There's a difference between 'being able to digest (some) plants' and 'needing plants', though.

Are our bodies trying to adapt to the higher plant based diet and "grow" our intestines?. I also heard in a podcast (I'm so sorry I can't remember which one) that there is evidence that our brains are starting to shrink. It's only a thought but I'm wondering if we would eventually become chimpanzees again if we carried on with our plant based obsession, especially as this is now being pushed on kids 🤔

I love the way I feel when I limit carbs, but then I think maybe I need to have one day a week or 1 week every month of higher carbs (coming from starchy vegetables and whole grains). This practice is confusing as I am trying to keep my cravings in check. I am definitely a carb addict and recently gave up stevia because it set me down the path of wanting more carbs. Treat sugar and carbs the same way. Carb cycling is for people who have never had an addiction problem. I think I heard him say something like - they tell us to look at how healthy people eat and eat like them, but we're addicts, not healthy people. Good luck.

Tor Nørretranders, a science journalist from Denmark, wrote in his "Menneskeføde" (Food for humans) that the farming of grains and cereal began because the seas were rising, leaving too little space for all to be hunters-gatheres. And that the said crops are one-year-plants and therefore had all the energy packed into their seed. From a fellow physician: I did not listen to all of your presentation…don’t know if you mention any of this: Butyrate biosynthesis and absorption in the large intestine and subsequent metabolism. Two pathways of endogenous butyrate production from butyryl-CoA in bacteria have been reported. The letter “A” indicates that butyryl-CoA is phosphorylated to butyryl-phosphate and converted to butyrate via butyrate kinase. The letter “B” shows that the CoA moiety of butyryl-CoA is transferred to external acetate via butyryl-CoA:acetate CoA transferase, leading to the formation of butyrate and acetyl-CoA. Several receptors for butyrate have been identified, including GPR41, GPR43, and GPR109A. GPR41 is found in adipose tissues and immune cells. The highest expression of GPR43 has been found in immune cells, whereas GPR109A is essential for butyrate-mediated induction of IL-18 in colonic epithelium. A small portion of butyrate is transported to the liver and metabolized to produce ATP. GPR, orphan G protein-coupled receptor.
    Absorption of Butyrate
SCFAs are absorbed in both the small and large intestine by similar mechanisms (25, 26). Different mechanisms of absorbing SCFAs across the apical membrane of the colonocytes are reported, including diffusion of the undissociated form and active transport of the dissociated form by SCFA transporters (27). Two SCFA transporters exist, including monocarboxylate transporter (MCT) isoform 1 (MCT1), which is coupled to a transmembrane H+-gradient (28), and solute carrier (SLC) family 5 member 8 (SLC5A8), which is also known as sodium-coupled monocarboxylate transporter (SMCT) 1 (SMCT1) and is a Na+-coupled co-transporter (11).
A carrier-mediated, HCO3− gradient-dependent anion-butyrate exchange system is present on the basolateral membrane (5). In humans, MCT3 is expressed in low concentrations in the ileum, whereas MCT4 and MCT5 are expressed abundantly in the distal colon (29).
MCTs are also involved in butyrate transport on the apical membrane of colonocytes (30). Butyrate transportation with MCTs is saturated, coupled with H+, and inhibited by several monocarboxylates such as acetate, propionate, pyruvate, lactate, and α-ketobutyrate. The pH for the optimal activity of the colonic butyrate transporters appears to be ∼5.5. In addition, a second class of MCTs, called SMCTs, was identified (31), such as SLC5A8 (SMCT1) and SLC5A12 (SMCT2) (32). Different from MCTs, SMCT transport involves Na+ uptake by the transport cycle and also uses nicotinate and ketone bodies as substrates

Huh? In every examination of primitive diets that I've ever seen (I'm most familiar with Weston Price's "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration") ALL primitive people eat the above-ground parts of plants. They also scavenge seaweed when it is available. Herbs, in particular, smell and taste great. There are plenty of vegetables that are delicious right off the vine - pea shoots, immature ramps, leeks, and other alliums, celery, mushrooms, and asparagus spears snapped off during the hungry gap of early spring. I can tell that you are not a gardener because a LOT of edible plants smell divine. Admittedly, these are hybridized varieties. Even 'heirloom' open-pollinated varieties are not untouched by man. The one that continues to astonish me is the artichoke. Whoever figured that was edible was one hungry S.O.B.! But even so, all of our closest hominid cousins eat vegetables. So, I don't think the question is, "When did we start eating plants?" I believe the question is, "When did we start making starch extracted from cereal seeds a primary component of our diet?" For that, we have clear archeological evidence: whenever wheat or rice became a staple in the diet and began supplying the bulk of the calories, people got shorter, there were higher rates of infant mortality, and dentition deteriorated. That much is clear in the archeological record.

@@robertcywes2966 Not always. For instance, ramps, stinging nettles, most watercress, and sorrel are not commercially cultivated. One harvests them from the wild. There are numerous fruits that fall in that category, as well, and I am unaware of any commercially hybridized seaweed. Nope. Every primitive people from the Amazonian rain forest to the Kalahari desert to the Laps above the arctic circle opportunistically harvest and eat wild fruits and vegetables. You only run into hyper-hybridized fruits and vegetables in supermarkets - you know, the place where they send bad vegetables to die. Again we have well-preserved food remains in the archeological record as proof that while some foods (corn and bananas are the prime examples) are unrecognizable in their primitive wild form, other foods have remained remarkably stable and are essentially wild plants (mangoes and peas are sterling examples). Even in grains, a natural wild crossbreed of goatgrass (Aegilops tauschii) and wheat (Triticum turgidum) produced the first ancient bread wheat. That wheat had 14 chromosomes. Modern wheat has 42 chromosomes - so, yeah. SOME plants have been hybridized to oblivion. But humans are pretty opportunistic. Many of the plants we eat now are not from then. But many of them are. Not all food plants have been humanized. Once again, I do not believe that we "started" to eat plants. We never left off eating them. The question should be: "When did we start to substitute starchy field crops for the bulk of our meat?" That question reflects a more accurate and nuanced understanding of agricultural history. There are numerous excellent reasons for adopting a carnivore diet; ancient precedence is not one of them

But if I see some berries or an orange, or a fig or banana, I will happily pluck and eat it. Not sure how I'd feel about greens like leaves or tubers - would probably pass on them. Maybe if I were a guy with a weapon of some sort I'd feel differently, I don't know. Perhaps that's why women were mostly gatherers while the men were hunters.

The biggest lie told to us by the conventional modern day diet and western medical perspective is that we must eat lots of vegetables and fruits in order to be healthy, which is wrong and in the last few decades, its alarming how politicized this push to promote plants while at the same time telling people animal based meat is bad for you, its literally the worst advice and absolutely incorrect from an evolutionary perspective, we thrived and relied on meat and animal based protein and added in fruit when it became available.

I agree with you (there is a but) as Intry to eat low carb and my favourite subject is human evolution. We are evolved to eat meat (maybe not as much) as it is hard to get in the natural world. (See tv programme Surviving the Stone Age). Our common ancestor 10 million years ago gorged on fruit for a couple of hours and rested and repeated. The reduction in rainforest caused a common ancestor to leave the forest for food which led to an upright walking ability. Poor thing had to walk and walk just to dig up a root with a stick. My guess is that is when scavenging meat started eventually leading to the hero homo erectus being able to control fire and cooking which freed the species up relativelyas it was more nutritious. My but is why have I been advised to eat kale and spinach due to the beginnings of macular degeneration. I love kale and spinach so no problem and they apparently have the nutrients I need but I find the more you look into this subject the more of these discrepancies appear. I would be interested in your view. Good books for human evolution without getting too technical are “the story of the human body” Daniel Lieberman and evolution Alice Roberts which is more pictorial.
