    Hey, Justin! Here I am 6.5 years after you created this video (2021 now). Decided to go way back to your beginning here cuz you're the BEST, man! I've been a Sketchup user for a really long time but shamefully, I never just slowed down and took the time to learn the basics. I've been winging it all this time and because of that, I have wasted so much time. But it's been a blast since Sketchup as a hobby is my fave thing to do. Thank you for everything. 👍🏼 ✌🏼

    thank you so much. I'm a year 12 student in Australia currently doing a major project for a course relating to architecture. For my project i need to recreate an old english building that is in my local area and it consists of many exterior details (like corninesses) that are very intricate. Ive already spent hours creating them individually and intersecting them where they meet but now you have saved me many more hours.
    Thank you so much!

    When selecting your rectangle and then removing the face from the selection, are you double clicking the face and then holding shift to click on the face and remove it from the selection? This is a very informative video with several excellent tips on using the elusive follow me tool! Thanks for sharing!

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 лет назад

      If you're talking about every single edge, I don't think you want the follow me tool. I think you probably want to try the extension "RoundCorner" by Fredo6 - ruclips.net/video/36myjGh1iGw/видео.html - Thanks!

    Excellent video, thanks. How do you extrude a profile through another profile; e.g. with frame and panel doors where I want to draw the rails and stiles separately?

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  9 лет назад +1

      Hi Chris -
      In the situation you describe (assuming I'm understanding it correctly,) it may be best to extrude the rails and stiles as separate groups in your model and then use the move tools to place them where you want them.
      Thanks for watching!

  • @LryuzakiLN

    Could you please explain how to make that profile??? To follow along the path??? It just pops up just like that, is it some kind of magic??

  • @jayboy4651
    @jayboy4651 3 года назад

    Sir regarding with the object in 6:20, if the path is a combination of a straight line along x or y or z axis and a diagonal path, the object will rotate itself in the diagonal part giving an unexpected result. Hope you can help me with this. Thanks.

    I tried to replicate the example in the door, at 9:50, and I noticed that the back side of the door is hallow with this method, which can't be seen in your video. How to prevent this? And what if instead of an incisive rectangle, we wanted to do half a rectangle in the bottom, followed by a semi-circle at the top?
    Btw, great video and really instructional.

    This may solve my problem. I have been trying to make 4 poles meet in a pyramid shape. I have not been able to get them to lign up with the axis or meet together at the top. So I am going to try making a pyramid, select the lines and use the fallow me tool. Not sure if I have to make the diameter on the axis plain and then make a corner.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 лет назад

      Hi Hans - you may also be able to use the "Lines to tubes" extension to create this shape - sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12354 - You could draw your lines, then use this extension to generate your poles. Let me know how it turns out!

    When I tried to use the follow me tool at 9:44, it didn’t look like what you did. The lines were overlapping or something. It didn’t make a rectangular shape. Did I do something wrong?

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  5 лет назад

      Based on that description...probably? Are you sure it was an exact rectangle that you extruded along?

  • @governorswalk9521
    @governorswalk9521 4 года назад

    It seems the the object needs to not be a component or group and has to be at right angles to the path for the tool to work right? Your video starts with this part done so it's not covered?

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  4 года назад

      It helps - technically the profile doesn't have to be, but it gives weird results if it's not

  • @jeanc6562

    Thanks ! is it possible to make this "wood base"on 3 sides only?

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  9 лет назад

      Hi Jean - Absolutely! If you look at about 5:45 in the video, I select all 4 sides, then activate the follow me tool. If I just wanted the base on 3 sides, I would only select the three sides where I wanted the base instead of all 4. Just make sure the 3 sides you select are connected or it won't work.
      Hopefully this helps! Thanks for watching!

      TheSketchUpEssentials Yes it was obvious, thanks anyway for the answer. Now I try to make rounded wood knob for drawer. Is follow me the right tool?

  • @SinAlameda
    @SinAlameda 7 лет назад

    I get a funny little bit, for lack of a better word, at the starting point of my extrusion when deleting for a profile on outside edge of door. What am I doing wrong!?

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  7 лет назад

      I'm having trouble visualizing your issue - I assume your path is a loop, right? That's supposed to delete the original profile once your extrusion goes all the way around? Is that not working?

    • @SinAlameda
      @SinAlameda 7 лет назад

      Path is square, a cabinet door, and I drew a little profile like the guy did in the video. And for whatever reason it left a remnant for lack of a better word at the starting point. Essentially the outline of the profile PERPENDICULAR to the starting direction.
