Thanks mate, this was a best video I ever seen so far about Honda 5hp outboards. I have got same cutting off problem on my Honda bf5 (1997). I will try to change sparkplug as well. Hope will works. Best regards.
Everywhere I searched, they kept confusing this with a 50 HP ! I finally asked what a 2004 5hp Honda would LOOK LIKE, and found this . Mine started on the first pull, I found an estate sale for the same money as this guy. Runs like a kitten, great on gas.
Found a guy selling the same engine on marketplace, he sent a video of it starting first pull and water tail looks good. What are some things I should look for when I go to check it out?
Not much to be honest as the engine is very simple, the water out flow is a good indicator of the water pump working fine, easy start - good compression. Mine leaked a bit of gas when locked in the up position, but very minor. These things just run forever and so light - much better than a battery tolling motor in my opinion. 👍
Hello! I have the exact same Honda 5HP outboard that my father bought new. The original tools in the tank have disappeared from my engine. Could you tell me what the size of the ring spanner was, they seemed to be two different sizes in the same spanner? And what size are the cutting pins? I plan to buy similar tools to replace the wasted ones for my own engine. Thank you!
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Yes, I actually read the instruction manual today and there was a detailed description of all the included tools! :) So it's okay. My uncle and I will probably replace the water wheel and Stefan and the seals in the pump next week, and then I'll hopefully be able to fish, that is, pull a lure! :)
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Yes, it's a really good and high-quality engine, and since it's a Honda, the quality is okay too! :) Thank you very much and greetings from Finland! :)
Hi, I'm very happy with your video....after searching for days. I just bought the same engine and saw your reaction about the year of the engine. I couldn't find it either. Thank you very much for sharing. Do you have more video's of your engine? I would keep myself recomended.
Hi Rosemarie - Glad you found the video useful. I haven't done much fishing this year so the engine is stored in my garage but I'm sure it will feature in a video in the future! Its a great little motor!
slickjimmy The Honda is good for the duration of the harbour at least two hundred and twenty minutes to get a good half of the harbour at the end of the harbour off the waterfront park in the morning of the harbour at the end of the harbour paddled back to the harbour off the road at the moment so I will have to go back to the harbour.
Looks pretty good. I would suggest a new plug and more importantly take it for a good run. Add a little seafoam to the fuel as well and that will help clean out the carb.
Don't worry about the choke, I've got a suzuki 4-stroke here and for the first 5 mins it won't idle without choke, when it's nice and warm it'll run perfect!
Nice video. Very helpful. I'm going to check one out today on Craigslist same like this one. tips on purchase a used outboard like this one? What type of oil do you use? Thank you.
+Leon Le I'm not much of an outboard specialist but I would have the guy run it in a barrel of water to check it functions. Take a look how bad the prop is banged up - it's a good indicator if the unit has been cared for. The oil was 10W-30 as per the manual but I would check online to be sure. Good luck!
Jay Tintás I think not - the L is a long leg and this seems normal. Thanks for watching - I will be posting my boat review soon with the motor so you can see the two together.
Hello how are you?. I have a Honda 75. Unfortunately the diffuser is no longer useful. Could you indicate any alternatives? I can not get the spare. Thank you!
Hi Ariel - I'm not sure of the part you are referring " diffuser" - Normally Honda parts are very available - make sure you know the serial number and year if possible and call a Honda dealer or search ebay. Hope that helps
Hi Kacper - I use the recommend oil from Honda and premium gas. The majority of outboards typically see a few hours of use a year (especially in Canada as the summer is short) so even though they are old they have tons of life left. Just ask about the use and see the environment the engine was used before purchasing - would be my advise.

They are a very nice engine and built very well!!! If you can find them they are a keeper! 😉
Random but were you ever able to find any parts for this thing? What were you looking up? i cant even get a manual for it.
I have this same motor...it's a gem....I can't find the oil filter...
Indeed they are - I don't think they use a filter.

Hi Mazufa - I'm sorry I no longer own this engine to check the sizes. It might be in the manual 👍

Carburetor needs a good cleaning and tune that will take care of low end idle problems. :) Honda makes a good engine! All the best

SeaNymph 2014 Funny you say that - once I took it out for a run and let it warm up it settled down and runs nice. Thanks for watching.
Nice work on this video. Have you added any more follow up videos on what you did to the motor?
Not as yet - I've included the motor in most of my fishing videos and I plan in the spring to show how to service the engine and change the leg oil.
Any updates? I got a bf100 that needs tuning and maintenance

plz tell me what year is that engine .just got one that looks to be the same and cant find year. serial starts with bf50s.thank you
ericpeteful To be honest I'm not sure either. At a guess I would say sometime in the 80's. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Thanks for watching!
I have a 1987 B100 honda 4 stroke, I only have fire on 1 cyl. can anyone share info on what the problem could be? Thank's in advance.
Are you getting spark on the other HT lead?
Great video thanks! Is this a BF50 L?

What is with Honda and the big ugly stickers?
They do that to their motorcycles too! 😆
🖤💙🖤👍💯
Thanks!
Tidy engine for nearly 40 years old.
I know right!
