- Kings Dominion opened up their brand new roller coaster, Tumbili, in the snow and only 16 people got to ride it...so we came back the next day to see if we'd have better luck! I don't understand the hate people give to S&S Free Spins. They're really fun. I get that they don't turn a park into a destination because they've become so common. But there are a lot of rides that are common that are still fun. I ride every Batman clone I come across because they are fun to ride. The Free Spins have a different experience each time so they have an advantage over most clones. I'm not saying they are elite coasters but they are fun.

I feel like that's the general consensus. I think the hate they normally get is based on something else, like in the case of the Six Flags parks, the criticisms were coming from a frustration of the parks not really getting something new or inspired. In the case of Kings Dominion I think it was more of a lack of a replacement for Volcano than a dislike for Free Spins. Might just be what I'm thinking though and not the general population.
i've never rode one before and to have one in the Virginia area is good enough for me
I think it was just from those years that six flags was spamming them to all the parks. but once someone gets a chance to ride one.. most people I think can appreciate them for being a fun ride as another option when youre at a park.
like you said, nothing elite, but I think they're great. Way cooler than any vekom boomerang or SLC and not painful at all to me.
This a smaller version of it than what most other parks have installed. I wonder why KD went with smaller model just like they did with their frisbee ride.
Actually, those palm trees are sabal palmettos that withstand temperatures down to 7 degrees so they will be fine.

I think it's crazy how Tumbili is more themed than Pantheon 😂
They must have massively exceeded their budget for the coaster itself with Pantheon or something because they must have had a meeting to say: "Yo, what's the least we can possibly do to theme this ride because we're f'ing broke".

I’m always happy to see Kings Dominion get some love and money invested into it. 2025 is their 50th anniversary, so I’m very hopeful something absolutely huge and unique comes to replace Volcano. I’m glad you both enjoyed your day despite the snow
Anniversaries don't usually mean a big new addition like a coaster as anniversaries sell themselves. I think 2024 could be the year of Volcano's replacement.

despite a rough last decade for KD i think their recent additions have been in the right direction for the park. candy apple grove and the jungle expedition are both great areas of the park with moderate theming while tumbili and twisted timbers fit really well into those themes (not to mention all the ride rethemes and spruce ups). it just feels like theres a big focus on quality of life and making the park feel like it actually has cohesive lands compared to the usual cedar fair and six flags look.
I'm really digging the direction KD is going with this largely themed area, hope they keep it up. Looks like an awesome year for the park.

Lol I love people who get to operate launch coasters. The guy working flight of fear saying “I can’t remember what this button does” and pressing it to launch riders was really funny to me and idk why. I guess it’s nice when operators try and have fun with riders
On sunday, my friend said hi to you guys while exiting I305. He was on the same train as you. I wish I could’ve seen you guys as I went to King Dominion at the same time.

6:49 The fact that one of the boats from Haunted River, that ended up becoming theming for Volcano, is still sitting in the original ride trough for Haunted River while land clearing is taking place……..makes me happy. Haunted River was my favorite ride when I was a kid.

I can sympathize with Sarah regarding Volcano. I spent years saying I would get to it and never did.
Also, as a KI homer, I'm jealous of the working they put in to Jungle X-Pedition. I hope KI one days gives Action Zone a real theme and makeover.

yo Kings Dominion should be proud of their new area! I completely agree with Sarah that parks are paying attention to the 5 senses. The details they put in their new section is great and Im glad that KI and KD has done a good job with their new areas. Love the touch of ambient music.. soon the sister parks will replace each of their large empty lots too 😅😅

Y'all got more snow than South Jersey on Saturday. I saw on Twitter that Short Pump had around 3 inches of snow but South Jersey had mostly rain.
The jungle expedition looks beautiful. Cedar Fair is finally paying a lot more attention to theming, landscaping, atmospheric music, and even the food. I sure can't wait to go see this myself if we get the opportunity to return.
I actually saw you at the park in line for Reptilian! I didn’t want to tell “HI” in the middle of the line because that would’ve been awkward, but it was really cool!

The area around Tumbili looks great. I always enjoy the Free Spins and it's nice to see one with some theming and music rather than tacky Joker "theming" plopped on concrete. I actually wouldn't mind seeing more Free Spins at other CF parks, particularly the smaller ones. Looking forward to visiting next month!
This was the first year Busch Gardens WB was open year round. We went Mid January. Cold and fun.
Maybe they should retheme Backlot Stunt Coaster to a jungle expedition theme to fit the area.
Or, they could put Diamond Falls back in it's place.
Nice video! I haven't been motivated to go to KD since they closed Volcano. However, I like what they're starting to do with the park - perhaps the start of something big over the next ten years. Maybe this will be the year I return.

Prediction:
I don’t expect them to do this soon. But over the next 5 years, this is what I would do:
2023- retheme backlot stunt coaster to a jungle expedition/tiger theme and put trees everywhere. Change the cars to safari cruisers.
2024- b&m flying coaster themed to a bird (volcano’s replacement)
2025- retheme i305 to a space theme to match flight of fear (like orion/flight of fear) to separate it from jungle x-pedition

To keep the Jungle X temple theme going, I think Garuda would be a perfect name for a wing or flyer there.
@@Commanders2022 no it won’t i305 will stay the same and if anything gets revamped it will be the anaconda there’s been rumors for years of that thing getting replaced/revamped
@@XxMemeist_ExtremistxX if you look at the 6 temples on the map, the 4th is anaconda. There’s 2 left to be discovered (backlot retheme and volcanos replacement). It would be in KD’s best interest to give i305 a space theme and make an area-52 themed area

As an employee of FoF in 2019, this is beautiful to see.
I can't believe seven months ago, I saw the official animation for tumbili. Then seven months later, I see this. Dang, that was pretty fast. It didn't even take a year.
I find it hilarious to see how bundled up you two were for temperatures that didn't dip below freezing. Where I'm from (Winnipeg Canada) we haven't even seen above freezing temps yet this year and yet people are already switching into their spring clothes.
Also did you know that the attraction safety spiels for the rides in Jungle X-Pedition were recorded by youtuber Alicia Stella of Theme Park Stop? Perhaps someday you two will be invited to do something similar.

About the Tumbili Signs, the freespin at SFDK had a Batman logo in the structure, but it was taken down after the season.
After riding cheetah hunt in what was 40° weather recently, I can only imagine riding coasters in 30s.
Was gonna try and go to KD opening day as well until the forecast called for snow. Looks like we made the right call haha

I was wondering if Avalanche still existed at King's Dominion. Does the Scooby Doo coaster still exist?
Oh, and that reference to Mt.Kilimanjaro appears to be related to the ride of that same name that is long gone. It was a roller coaster that went in a big circle in and out of a small mountain. I know that sounds weak, but man, that ride would haul ass.

If KD would have started Tumbili at 10:30AM (30 minute before the park opened) on Saturday everyone would have been able to ride. There was only about 100 people there. Then KD kicked everyone out at 1PM and closed. Especially since the press/ media were invited too come in at 10AM. That's what BGW did with Pantheon the week before.

Tumbili has much better theming than Pantheon. Only in Virginia you can have a free spin have better theming than a multi launch at a Sea World park.
Viper at SFMM has better theming than Pantheon.
Ninja at SFStL has better theming than Pantheon.
American Eagle as SFGAm has better theming than Pantheon.
Okay some of those are equal, not better. But Busch Gardens is a theme park and those are amusement parks - Pantheon should have better theming.
Bear in mind that SeaWorld opened four new coasters this year, all of them sizable additions. Cedar Fair opened just one coaster, and it’s a cheap addition. The money normally spent on a B&M or two smaller investment was funneled into this ride and its surroundings.
When a free spin is your only new attraction, you have money to put theming in. That’s how it works
@@starryagent9936 All of SeaWorld's coasters were supposed to open in 2020 and 2021. You'd have to count Orion if you want to cover the same period at Cedar Fair.
That's still 2 vs 4 but that's a big extra ride that Cedar Fair opened that Sea World would have held until 2022.
Most of the rest of Sea World's 4 'new' coasters also have better theming than Pantheon.

I did a video about this a while back- I’d be fine with a couple of options. This includes a big GCI/Gravity Group wooden coaster, an S&S axis or 4D like Eejanaika, or Vekoma flying coaster
Was there with them. My wife and I actually met you right before you guys got on I305. So you have a little more experience with me on I305 Taylor, was that it running pretty slow? Even if that was it slow it lived up to the hype... (I know I'm like 20 years late on this one lol)
