Sleeperdude and family are back with another roadtrip video. After rescuing this 82 Mercury Zephyr from a grandmas yard where it had been sitting for 15 years we are taking it on its first road trip. 250 miles, and half of it will be in the dark! Will we finally have a successful road trip? Will I have to sell another car on the side of the road? We are traveling to the Shades of the Past car show in Pigeon Forge Tennessee. This unfortunately is the last show they are going to be doing after a 40 year run. I have been going to this show my whole life and it's sad to see it go away.

You're right about the wipers... when I was a little kid in the early 1960's my dad fixed the wipers on our 57 Chevy and we had the only one that had the wipers going the same direction instead of together at the center, then apart. Don't know how he did that. Still remember it from then.

YES! we need station wagons back in our lives! One of the biggest mistakes America ever made was stopping production of the wagon! It truly saddens me that you can't go to the car lot and pick one up for the family anymore😭

Maybe one day he'll come revive my 87 Buick estate bout the only guy I would sale it to. When he broke down in the RV I was about ready to get her started drive to South Dakota and trading for the motorcycle just temporarily so he could continue on and come back to the RV. I tried to scrape up as much cash as I could when I saw the RV go up for sale for $3,500 on the Craigslist. I want to real bad get her back to him some way somehow do some horse trading or something. I said I'm almost every video but these little clips back into Tennessee are the closest thing I got to being home these days

13:26 the reason it pops is because the potentiometer inside contacts are dirty. If you clean that it won't make the pop sounds anymore and it will smoothly change volume and frequency! Handy for fixing some heaters or AC units too if they are using a potentiometer

Imagine telling the original owner the day they bought this car that in 40 years another family would be driving the car hours across Tennessee.

@@jeremybreinig4782 Thats unfortunately true. With a select few you might get lucky and could pull off a 40 year stretch, but it would be a very very select few.
@@jeremybreinig4782 I think cars today will last 40 easily. Back then a car would be rusted out in ten years easy. At least today a 10 yo car can be like new. Problem is, people throw away perfectly good cars because they’re tired of an old model. They don’t fix or rebuild motors anymore. Remember when Sears and Montgomery wards had dozens of garage doors fixing cars?
@@IcelanderUSer todays cars dont rust as much but to do motor or trans takes tools most people dont have like 5k Doller scan tools just to bleed brakes on my 2011 impala

My father passed away a long time ago but he was born in Tennessee and his way of parenting was very similar to yours. Sarcastic wisecracks, always teasing us but being sweet at the same time. I love it!!! This reminds me of my childhood. ❤❤❤
Those windshield wipers were not having it ! They work great until you need them. Defrost towel, always in an old car ! Looked like a lot of fun !

The zip tie holding the wiper together brought back so many memories. My friend had a 84 camaro and there were body panels held on by zip ties. 🤣 Great trip guys!

That Zephyr would look great totally restored as is. No interior or body work needed. A little rust repair on back underside of the trunk lid and paint and she's done! And you can tell folks that little 6 cylinder is a real powerhouse because you did "donuts" in it with the whole family in the car at Pigeon Forge.... 😁🍩 😁🍩

Last time I had a linkage failure like that on the wipers, I tore part out a plastic sack and wrapped that round the spike the arm pushed onto before reseating the arm. It worked for a few days until the new linkage arrived

When I was in the army, we went north of Fairbanks Alaska in a convoy in the winter. It was about -30 in 1977. We were sleeping in tents with Yukon stoves. Me and another spec 4, were driving the 5 ton wrecker at the back of the convoy. All the vehicles from 1/4 ton m151 jeeps to 5 ton tractors with 5000 gallons tankers full of jp4 were driving on icy mountain roads. The wreckers heater fuel line was connected to the fuel line for the fuel injector pump. So if we turned on the heater, the engine would starve for fuel and die. The windshield would ice up, we was using a C ration can to scrap the ice. Right behind the cab was an acetylene torch. We passed the torch through the sliding back window and lit it. It got too hot even on low with the Windows open. We made it back to Ft. Richardson like that. There's much more to the story, but I would have to write a book.
Fixing a windshield wiper with a charging cord from a cell phone lol Now I have seen it all. Tell your wifey she looks beautiful without makeup. Looks like you had a lot of fun and the car really didn't break down because of the engine so it really was a good trip. Thanks for taking us along.

The radio volume pot needs a spray of D5 Deoxit. Or you can use WD-40 in a pinch.. to clear up the static when you adjust the volume.

I did a trip from Melbourne to Adelaide in a mate's '63 Holden which was built from parts found in paddocks and had to string up the wipers to get them to work. Hilariously good times.

My oldest sister bought a brand new 1989 mustang GT, back in the end of 1988! Beautiful freaking car, and actually pretty dang gone fun to drive for it to only have 248HP from the factory. Now Georgia State Patrol had them some back then, that were running around with a SSP that were a bit more aggressive. Great video thanks for sharing.
Alternator was probably overcharging, wich is why the dummy light quit flashing whenever you turned on your headlights.

Awesome family, awesome road trip. You talk about the perfect family sedan and your dad is driving one! The Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis/Town Car is the last of the great American sedans. I have an 08 Crown Vic LX (not an X-cop car) that I use mainly for road trips. And there are still plenty of them around. They're not just for racing at Cletus and Cars events. I think you need to get one!

I appreciated your comments on the Crown Victoria and station wagons. Both are great vehicles and best when combined. I must confess that I am prejudiced since I own a 1987 Ford Crown Victoria Wagon, a 1991 Crown Victoria Wagon and most recently a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 50th Anniversary Edition with only 72,000.0 miles. This is just a wonderful scene to see sleeperdude’s and vice grip garages families, take old junk cars on road trips to car shows and such. Taking abandoned old forgotten cars, getting them running and road worthy and heading out on road trips without a care in the world.

All those cars & trucks from a bygone time - fantastic!! The whole Sleeperdude family are doing great things reviving the old cars. Old does not mean obsolete and ready for the crushers, it means quality that was meant to last! The current crop of new vehicles will never last as long as the old cars, the new cars are made for a dollar, with built-in obsolescence. Keep up the good work, fantastic videos and enjoying life 👍.

The alignment of that steering wheel would make me insane.
had 80 Grand Am, same issue, when tilt steering. Got tired of fixing it and replacing engine a couple years back, gave it up to donation.
Yeah , I noticed that on the first video.. and was thinking I’d adjust that.. before long as it would drive me nuts.. lol
Me too lol I would of had it put back in the right position with the alignment after putting the new tires on lol
I believe that the steering wheel is also UPSIDE DOWN !!!!! The larger gap should be at the top of the wheel not the bottom.

Love Pigeon Forge. Cades Cove is beautiful too. So much wildlife to see. Take the kids there around Thanksgiving and you'll see deer in huge herds and the bucks in rut butting heads etc. the deer will eat right out of your hands even in the car. There's a really old church there and a nice old 2 story log cabin. And there's all the stuff in town of course. Slick track gokarts, laser tag, bungie jumping, that skydiving simulator, helicopter rides .
