I'm Japanese. I remember this performance of hers. Her performance of Azucena was like madness. I have never seen an opera singer as expressive as her.
40 years ago this lady sang Azucena at the Met and set my hair on fire. It's still burning. Nobody else ever came close. Here, without a top and with all the symptoms of an aged voice, she still brings an intensity, concentration, and a complete characterization along with brilliant diction. She is amazing. I kiss her feet!

boxerman7, You are totally right on the money with your comment. We all know that when The Great Flo was EXPECTED to have blazing high notes, i.e. during her glorious prime, she delivered every time. So even if she’s 72 here and way past her prime and the high notes no longer respond, there is an element of Cossotto’s greatness that remains intact in this performance: that commitment to always performing in the grand tradition of bringing music to LIFE. I love seeing that no matter what the vocal shortcomings. People who constantly whine “Great singers need to know when to retire” need to retire.

The two of them brought down the house at every performance and the audience didn't want to go home. They lowered the fire curtain, but no one would leave, and the cast came out for more bows. Well, I missed history history and mor history of this Wonderful Golden Age...being of another place and time with though I was living up the street from the Met...yours years watching the greats have enriched your life in those treasured times...I was a fortunate attended at Lyric yet Cossotto and Caballe, I just missed again; and Caballe remains the greatest of the DIVAS. Evidentemente lo vocal está muy deteriorado,.pero la fuerza interpretativa y la trayectoria son la de una de las más grandes cantantes de ópera de todos los tiempos.

@@blustella6555 , no, la Cossotto non era un contralto per niente, ha solo scurito troppo il suono perdendo di elasticita', acuti e smalto. Quando canta Donizetti e' meglio che Verdi. Spesso, forzando, venivano fuori in alto suoni indifferenziati. Con la voce intatta anche lei non e' durata molto. Negli Ugonotti e nell'Anna Bolena e' stratosferica, altrove meno.
Yo hubiese hecho lo mismo que la Fiore...además la callas le dijo...tu eres joven canta lo que está escrito...yo no puedo más !...no cambien la historia no existen divas ni padre eterno ! la callas también hizo de las suyas ! no era ninguna santulona ..y de joven gritaba a más no poder ! saludos a todos y arte para vivir para el arte ! arte para vivir para el arte !
You are so right James. Everybody here seems to like/love this, but I can hardly listen to this. Whoever she was .Yes, of course I know, she was fantastic, I have many records . But now it's for friends only in private surroundings and NOT for a big audience, ending on RUclips and therefore available for centuries. Cannot understand why she did this. I call it stupid. She should have been warned for this. Have seen more examples like this and only appreciate those singers who know when to stop in time. Keep the good memories. Rather leave too early than too late. I don't care what the (apparently only) fans here have commented. Too many others feel too ashamed to comment. Mind you, I have seen (only) a few who were "all right", when singing at an high age, often it was unofficial, but it was acceptable because of the lack of disturbing vibrato. I don't mind skipping a high note (many sopranos turn into mezzo and mezzos maybe in alto) or less breath, but this constant vibrato right from the start... no thank you. Unacceptable. Why not show a film on a screen of days gone by , she can still be there and receive applause.
