I use my Night Gyr exclusively on the hot maps. When my map multiplier gets high enough, I switch over to the mech and only vote for the hottest maps. I also use ECM. Those 2 factors might make a huge difference in this mech.
Makes sense how anything not typical (clan UAC, inner sphere AC/RAC) would be hard to balance because you already have the bases covered with the other aforementioned weapons. Just like how the plasma is redundant when flamers exist.
The thing is these are supposed to be old tech, cheap weapons that pre-date the ultras, but price doesn't matter in MWO, so how do you make them worth while?
I'm not so concerned with the DPS of LAC/PACs, what I'm a little concerned with is their heat. Your mech often had heat problems which is only supposed to be an issue with UACs. LAC/PACs already pay for their weight advantage with inferior range and DPS, they don't need a heat penalty as well.
I’ve been running a pair of them along with some AP Gauss and spls on a Huntsman. As long as I’m not the priority target, I can pump out some damage, but it suffers in 1v1. Bring a hat.
Only Proto-8 Ive tried is 2 with 4 hvy med lasers on the hbr-prime so8. Middling results as well, but can be effective when in cohesion with bigger friendlies
Pacs work well with normal acs I find, taking them without support weapons is often not worth it. They would be well off with a decent buff since lacs are in a real good spot right now.
I've got strong feelings those proto-ac is a bit underpowered as solo weapon and "close-to-be-imba" if they are on, for example, on DWF, like 6 proto-ac8 on DWF, if you understand what I mean (I hope so...)
Your hip wont twist the same range like the torso and it still counts as the back torso unfortunately. It is always better to aim on the "tail bone" because it is a much more clear back torso hit and it is slower, than the toros all the time, but probably you are fully aware of it :)
Imagine a Terran Space Marine from StarCraft somehow stuffed into the cockpit of a Night Gyr. Also, watching that Dire Wolf kill itself from a greed overheat on a sticked Thunderbolt made we actually shout "NO!"
I'm not particularly thrilled by the Protos, the 4 is probably the best of the lot, but still meh. The fact that they put out more heat, less damage, slower and at a shorter range than the "bigger" standard AC is just weird.
No. It stands for Protomech, as in autocannons made for use by Protomechs, which are a sort of in-between between Elementals/battlearmor and mechs I believe. They can still be used by battle/omnimechs. The point of which being, you fill ballistic slots with these and due to them being lighter than normal ACs, you can fit additional lasers or missiles that you normally wouldn't be able to. Actual low tech ballistic weaponry would be the light, medium, and heavy rifles which all weigh less than normal again, but have their range limits inverse to their size and way higher heat, meaning a heavy rifle, which is basically a lighter AC20 with a disgustingly shit cooldown, has like 850 meters range and the light rifle, which does the damage of an AC5 round, but with abysmally shit cooldown, has a range of like 300 meters.
"Proto" means "early" or "before." So "prototype" is an "early type." Often that means that they haven't been perfected yet. Sometimes it means "original, before it was simplified for mass production," so it is better.
@torinsmith9867 He is correct in regards to Proto-Autocannons though. They were developed for use on Protomechs since they had a difficult, if not impossible time using standard mech weaponry, yet a Battlemech could still use Protomech weapons since they were modular.
The pac 8 seems okay, i think the gyr is the problem - for a while now, people just LASER FOCUS any gyr the see. You just get instantly focus fired by everyone when you peek in a night gyr. So it's just a miserable mech to play
...so due to the existance of the UAC10's this build is rubbish with shoting 2! rounds per salvo, this is what made me never use Clan AC-s unless UAC, they need more facetime and aim to hit "good" at range. I am not taking the UACs tencency to jam as a problem due to t he HLL and ERML you can bring along with that build, or 2 ERLL UAC10, mitigates the jam with the same heat approximitely.
From your intro, it sounds like you would have been happier with 4 PAC8s on an Esprit De Corps.
The fact that you don't even have 93k subs just proves that nothing is fair in this world! Love your content, Bara. Keep it up!

Proto-4s work really well with Plasma Cannons, BTW.

Bara, the 3xLB20X + ERPPC Moonwalker is a brutal mech. Give it a shot maybe. I just got AOS in T1 on it tonight.

I love all the build crafting you do bara hope to reach your skill level one day for piloting

I'd love to see more plasma cannons!

I’ve run my jk many times, really have trouble finding my groove with it. It really needs a mobility boost.
Great effort !!!! 10!!!
Good to try new things...

The timber wolf howl can run 4 pac8 and 4 srm 6. Its a fun brawler. Or a uac20 and 3 pac8

0:25 Catastrophic period malfunction?
I think proto acs should have a better cooldown. The range loss is a good trade off for less tonnage. Seems the cooldown is excessive.
4 uac5s on a ntg b is a better build imo. 8x pac4s on ultraviolet is good fun, though I've found pacs underwhelming overall.
Try using them on an Ultraviolet, I kind of like it.
Why not just max out that head armour?
forgot probably. those 2 points will hardly make a difference.
Imagine a Terran Space Marine from StarCraft somehow stuffed into the cockpit of a Night Gyr.

Tried 6 PAC4's on a RiflemanIIC that was interesting
I run a direwolf with 8 proto autocannons. I find it to be fun in the same way I find 4 UAC10s fun. It is very awkward to use though.
I'm not particularly thrilled by the Protos, the 4 is probably the best of the lot, but still meh.

Whammy2 is great with Proto4s
Looks like the Cauldron needs to revisit this weapon system…crap range, long cooldown…?
ProtoMech Autocannons are terrible in tabletop too. The real mystery is how they made it to mass production.
I’ll be in your nightmares
I always thought "Proto" meant Prototype, as in 'not quite as good as'
No. It stands for Protomech, as in autocannons made for use by Protomechs, which are a sort of in-between between Elementals/battlearmor and mechs I believe. @@torinsmith9867 I know what it means in normal use, but it stands for Protomech in this connotation.

Hit reg has been noticably wonky for a while now
Yes they are too slow, thats the whole point. They are light weapons for light mechs.
in american eglish its pronounced (gyr) guyr, nite guyr

Also if its not hitting the front its in the back... not always deserved ^^
Rating.
New weapons from pgi are worthless. The night jear is more of a smipper mech
That was a strange introduction. If you’re not a fan of the build and the weapon system then why post the video?
Noooo. A weapon that was invented in the 1980s is terrible in the year 3000?
