i've been using this pedal for 10 years and works fine still. Sounds so perfectly balance between fuzzy and distorted overdrive, like not to dirty. It does not sound off for strumming as well. So round when hitting to a certain note, highly recommend for Indie/Rock n Roll....Peace
Hey FYI guys, the Presence knob on the Hot Cake is NOT a passive treble filter like we're used to seeing on virtually all Drive pedals w/ a "Tone" knob. It is actually an additive EQ band centered around 800Hz. It is a potentiometer giving you variable control of the "Mid-Lift" parameter found on earlier versions of the pedal. Great pedal, love having a midrange control instead of a treble control (because after all, guitar is a midrange instrument!)
The SuperFunAwesomeHappyTime Pedal Show! excuse me I have a question where can I order the hotcake Crowther pedal from ?? what websites sells the hotcake Crowther pedal that I can buy from ????
Along with the ZVex SHO-based circuits (Box of Rock, Distortron), this is my all-time favorite overdrive. As Nels Cline found out, it doesn't sound great with Twin Reverbs, but I've had great results from a Dr. Z Maz 38, Hiwatt DR504, Silverface Princeton Reverb, and JTM45.
I'm with ya...I LOVE the Box of Rock (Distortron, SHO etc...) and the Hotcake...they stack beautifully too! I've been playing them through a Fender HotRod Deville 4x10 for years and I love the sound of them through that amp!
Funny you mentioned the SHO. The SHO, the Hotcake and the Greer Amps Lightspeed are my favourite pedals. I'd kill for a Hungry Robot (the low gain version) made by Hungry Robot Pedals. Unfortunately they don't make 'em anymore. :-(
This into any EL84-based amp (especially VOX amps, but it works great with others as well) is gangbusters. Stick a treble booster in front and it's gold. I run it into either my Blues Jr 3, Bassbreaker15, or both if I'm running a dual amp wet/dry or stereo thing. Into my "big amp", Laney VC30 (that's embiggened enough for me) it absolutely rips, as the VC30 is Laney's take on the AC30 circuit. Freakin' love this pedal. I have to - I'm a Kiwi. It's like a law over there, and they revoke your citizenship and take away your sheep if you don't use one. Choice, bro! Crowther built it for Neil Finn in the mid-70s for his AC30 rig. According to reliable sources, Neil still has the OG on his board. Btw there was a Kiwi band called "The Puddle". They were rilly gud eh.
You guys made a good video to demonstrate the versitality of this great pedal. One of the most convincing demo's of the Hotcake I've seen so far. Thanks!
I wasn't completely sold when I heard this through the tele (no reflection on your playing just the sound of the pedal) but it sounds amazing through the gibson, think I'll have to pick this up now, in dying need of a replacement for my ds1
The presenters missed the *whole point* of this pedal. it is *not at all* a transparent overdrive. It was *specifically* designed to tame the midrange on Vox AC-series amps that do not have their Top Boost circuit engaged.
Hey guys , that was a fun and usefull video . Where there is so many ego filled "perfect" characterspresenting these kind of videos , I found your humility refreshing. I'll be looking for more of you're videos , thanks.
Did y'all ever find a Prunes and Custard to try? 'Cause I got one. And it is a doozy. I see why it's the secret weapon of many a bassist. Apparently it's all over Ghost is Born by Wilco-Jeff Tweedy"s guitar
Speaking of the Prunes and Custard, did you know there is a whole song about the Prunes and Custard pedal? It's called 'Harmonic Generator' by the Datsuns. Pretty cool garage rock and you can hear the Prunes and Custard on the main riff and solo: ruclips.net/video/_EED8F7P_q4/видео.html
I want your t-shirt Gabor. Not literally THAT t-shirt, because I'd prefer not to smell like you. But, rad shirt. Pedal sounds rad too. Always been a huge fan of the Hotcake - classic pedal.
Hey guys, can you tell me what's this ES335 like guitar you have on the wall ? I'm currently looking for a good one ! Great video btw, love the hot cake ;)
+Adam Fischer Hi Adam...yes we used a Hot Rod DeVille 4x10 for this demo...will try to get our hands on a Vox and do another demo for you!! Thanks for watching!!
The SuperFunAwesomeHappyTime Pedal Show! Ut's a rilly awsum puhdul. Ut werks rilly wuth VOX emplifyas. Neel Funn frum Crowdud House stull has wun on hus board ay bro

+Matthew Diggle It really is - as much as I don't like to use this term - a very "transparent" drive...it will sound quite different with different guitars & amps! Its a GREAT drive pedal!! Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment!!

Thanks for the info Really Bites!
are you sure it's 800hz? I haven't used mine in a couple of months but from memory the frequency is much higher than that.

Really Bites Makes sense as it was designed with Vox amps in mind - and Vox have fixed mids

Hello this made me buy a hot cake just now! Oh and I am from New Zealand hehe.
+ralphe_www-thisflighttonight-com Oh nice! maybe we should hit them up for some commission :p
Hey bro I bought one as well. I'm a Kiwi, it's sweet-as, cuz!
Love this embigulator.
It embiggens very goodly 😜
Great channel guys - keep up the good work.
+mickey_blue_eyes thanks man, its still growing but we are just having fun with it :)
Hot Cake and Ibanez TS-808 are my 2 favourite pedals. Nothing else comes close! (imho) 🕶

Thanks Don
Check out that pedal show
I thought this was a pretty decent intro to the pedal. Not sure why there are so many down votes?
Thanks siriusisastar ...a lot of people complained about us using two single coil guitars...can't please everyone
@@TSFAHTPS but isn’t two single coils a humbucker? Asking for a couple of alnicos.

I didn't know that...thanks for sharing that Ben!
Hi guys, great demo of the Hot Cake - I'm also looking for cool lead pedal. How does this compare to the Fulltone OCD?
Skreddy Screw Driver mini deluxe is totally bomb after my hot cake, lots depends on guitar and amp too through. I use tele into Vox AC15C1X
I want your t-shirt Gabor. Not literally THAT t-shirt, because I'd prefer not to smell like you. But, rad shirt.
Pedal sounds rad too. Always been a huge fan of the Hotcake - classic pedal.
I have the same shirt!
THANKS FOR VIDEO LADS. KEEP GOING AT IT!
Hey guys, can you tell me what's this ES335 like guitar you have on the wall ? I'm currently looking for a good one ! Great video btw, love the hot cake ;)
It's a 1981 Ibanez AS-100...GREAT guitar...I use it in a bunch of our videos
Beautiful, thanks guys ! I was actually hesitating between this and a Greco SA 900 from the same years, great great guitars
Hey excuse me I got a question what websites can I order the hotcake Crowther pedal from?????
www.signalchain.com.au
It's a perfectly cromulent pedal.
Absolutely
What amp are you using? I've heard this is a perfect pairing for an AC30, but there's remarkably few demos of that pairing.
Ah, hot rod deville. You did mention it, I caught upon my second listen. My bad. Any chance you could do a demo with the HC and a Vox?
+Adam Fischer Hi Adam...yes we used a Hot Rod DeVille 4x10 for this demo...will try to get our hands on a Vox and do another demo for you!! Thanks for watching!!
I would brave the United States Postal Service for y'all..
Mean as bro, but "Gartar Puddle" is the correct kiwi pronunciation :)
Haha...thanks...will remember that for next time!!
or Gittar Piddle - depends on how strong your Aussie accent is of course ;)

Too much talk from the "least hetero" guitarist couple on RUclips.
That would have to be the most politically correct insult we've ever received...
