Your statement is exactly why Hogan said what he said. Some go even further and say, "Well it wasn't really him, it was brain damage" or "Benoit and his family were killed by someone else". This. The main problem, I think, is that the WWE isn't really allowing an honest conversation to be had as to the effect of the brain trauma on his actions. There's a lot of shaming going on for even entertaining the idea that his altered brain chemistry was the biggest factor. They've been burying this conversation wherever possible. Even Richards says here that alcohol drastically altered his actions, and what does alcohol most notably affect? Brain chemistry. Now he can make a decision to stop drinking, but he can't make a decision to unscramble his brain cells after a concussion. Also, people born with mental illness learn over time to adapt to many social difficulties, and even they can't solve every problem in that respect, and it's still easy to see how difficult it is for someone who's had bipolar disorder their entire life, for instance, to remain connected to reality, so imagine someone whose mind was previously healthy suddenly experiencing a mental illness for the first time. It'd be like if you exposed a deaf person to the sound of an air-horn for 24 hours. They wouldn't know how to handle that.

What's hard to figure out is why Benoit in particular was so damaged; of course most if not all wrestlers have some level of brain damage, but brains like Benoit's are like the ones we see in the NFL, where former players routinely die or commit suicide before age 40, not something we really see often in wrestling.

At this point, everyone knows who he is and what he's about. He's just upset that not everyone loves him. I personally find him highly entertaining with his tall tales and obvious lies veering into the absurd. While I do get where Hogan is coming from, the comparison is insane:
Benoit was one of the greatest wrestlers ever, whose in-ring work deserves nothing but admiration, who then did an extremely terrible deed (and Stevie is spot in about who has to forgive or judge).
Hogan OTOH was a mediocre wrestler rightfully criticized for his backstage politicking but - applying the standard of current times - what I would barely raise an eyebrow about what he did in his private life. (And he actually defeated a real-life monster villain in Gawker.)
This is actually not a case of forgiveness but of separating art and artist.
Why do I get where Hogan is coming from? Well, he wasn't ostracized and cancelled for any of his backstage misdeeds, not even for his adultery but for saying a bad word. And in this, Hogan's accusers were way worse than he was.

He could say that he he was with Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Mike Collins on the Apollo 11 mission, and I would say, 'ohh Hulk is being Hulk...just living the gimmick'. If it was anyone else, I would write them off as a lying POS. I don't know why..but I have a soft spot for the guy.

My interest in wrestling had been waning for a few years, but the Benoit murders made me disassociate myself from wrestling completely for about a decade. I have heard several others fans say something similar. It could have killed the whole industry and basically led to the birth of the PG era. Even today people who aren’t wrestling fans know about the Benoit murders. I don’t “forgive” him. I did finally go back and rewatch some of his matches but to be honest I don’t even need to do that at this point, there are enough other talented wrestlers past and present whose matches I can watch ad infinitum and not feel like I’m “missing out” by not watching Benoit.

Listen to me for five minutes and if you can believe my theory, then I will tell you what’s really going on and if you can just tell me what you think about it then maybe just maybe you understand what I’m saying he shouldn’t have to runaway or change his name or getting picked on because his father was a dickhead like I don’t like that stuff I care about him just like I care about his family who went through this tragedy. I know that he was framed and I know that there was someone in the house before hand I’m not know government agent and not no detective or not no police officer. I’m just a normal wrestling fan who knows true crime stuff when it does because I’m a true crime fan. I watch plenty of police shows and conspiracy documentaries prove that he is innocent and he never lay a finger on Daniel or Nancy the one thing that you and everybody else forget about the tragedy the last thing that Chris said to Chavo was that his son and wife had food poisoning they were at a restaurant before the tragedy happened like don’t you think for one second that someone could lure him out of the house murder the two of his family and then when he came back inside, did do something to him and then after that, they hang him with weight bencher the cause of the hit his head and then King him from his room after that right after that they got rid of the evidence and what I found about the situation is that the cops got there and then all the sudden decided to leave so quickly I believe there was a mistake and they must’ve read the whole autopsy wrong they didn’t even check his semen or his fingerprint or any of that to see if he didn’t do any trouble. All we know is that all three people were dead and it almost killed wrestling to begin with if I am right about this and they got killed by someone just tell David that I got his back because I know how it feels to lose a family member and somebody else treat you like crap like you can’t just be someone you’re not just to let the consequences happen that’s why I’m trying to tell all you people. The whole thing could be a lie. It could be a whole entire set up I’m not doing it for my own benefit. I’m not doing it for anything else. I’m trying to be a great guy and do helping for a great because I like to help people that’s who I am I would never ever ever ever ever take advantage of somebody else’s life and if Chris was still here, he would’ve told you the same thing

He isn't relevant anymore, and hasn't been for a while, which is possibly partly what is prompting these ridiculous statements. He wants publicity. @tpc3347 I'm not saying Benoit was a bad guy his entire life, but he certainly left this world as a bad guy. Sometimes in life it is possible to commit acts so terrible at the end of one's life that it can completely change the way you are thought of. Something snapped in Benoit towards the end and those last few days of his life over wrote the life he lived before.
