      TheBlurReturns16 I woudnt want to compare but i love Jethro's no-nonsense 'Hot' laps where is he keeps the car right at the edge of grip.I love Harris a lot,and all those beautiful drifts but i would love to see more very clean hot laps too in every review.Not saying he cant,because as we have seen in his Goodwood racing videos,he knows how to extract every last bit of grip from whatever he drives.

      TheBlurReturns16 Thats because Jethro and Chris are long time mates, and even used to work together on Drivers Republic. Many a times you will find Chris talking about Jethro in his videos and vice-versa.

      Avishar Dutta Agreed! I'm glad you know your CHOC vids. Some people say he does too much 'hoonage" but the Goodwood Revival video shows just how talented he is. I just love watching CH dance the F12 around Anglesey as he "shags some tires" in slo motion at 1080p.

    • @mariuszanfir2298
      @mariuszanfir2298 9 лет назад +7

      Tadas According to Porsche:
      Urban in l/100 km (mpg) 13.2 (21.4)
      Non-urban in l/100 km (mpg) 7.7 (36.7)
      Combined in l/100 km (mpg) 9.7 (29.1)
      I'm not saying that you will get these figures in a real life scenario, but if you're imagining Porsches as being gas guzzling monsters, that's not true.
      There was an extended owner review of the Carrera S PDK around here and that guy was saying he's getting 14l/100 km city driving. According to him, the PDK helps a lot, as the manual owners are getting 16l/100 in similar conditions. These cars are "frugal" for their performance.
      I can see your point on how you could force eat to make fuel disappear in no time, though :)

      McLaren F1 is 23 years old and is 8 seconds faster to 300 kmh than this Turbo S and 1 second faster than an Aventador. Now THATS incredible. McLaren F1 is simply the king of the supercars. And the engine sound of that V12 is.. magical.

    "This Turbo S have no technical support, no extra tires to throw at it, and not a single engineer's laptop went anywhere near it."
    HAHA! Sounds like a jab at Woking and Maranello. Stuttgart has this hands-down!

    • @longtailgt
      @longtailgt 9 лет назад +49

      SPEED senz AZN Same thing happened with 918 Spyder. McLaren and Ferrari were with multiple sets of tyres, technicians and track setups etc. Porsche be like "here's the key. Drop the car back when you're done"

    • @speedsenzazn
      @speedsenzazn 9 лет назад +2

      I concur. My comment was an exact reference to a RUclips vid from MotorTrend in regards to the 918 v P1 v LaFerrari (sans LaFerrari).

    • @mattromanes
      @mattromanes 9 лет назад +1

      SPEED senz AZN That comparison was pointless. It didn't have a proper conclusion. Although the 918's lap was phenomenal, they prefer the P1 as a driver's car. So I have no clue at all who won that. And I don't care if Ferrari didn't take part because it's not like all of us can afford one of those three cars anyway.

    • @speedsenzazn
      @speedsenzazn 9 лет назад +1

      SilverArrow WilliamsMartini I absolutely agree with you. There is no point in any these comparisons (especially those with stratospheric price-tags). It really is all about bragging rights (perhaps respect even).
      If you have that kind of cash, you will buy the one you want anyway. Not because which has the best 0-60 or which records the fastest lap, but you buy what makes you happy. Example, although there is no comparison testing or quantifiable figures, Ferrari had more takers versus cars on the day LaFerrari was revealed in Geneva.
      I am fairly certain it matters little to you which company won the comparison according to MT... a title that is subjective to the reviewer. You probably already made your decision even before the video and probably was rooting for "your team" (like watching basketball).
      Porsche's "here's the keys, do as you please" attitude and McLaren's "we'll play, but let us watch to see what more improvements we can make" approach were a real joy to behold.
      As for the Prancing Horse, the company's smugness is a real deterrent. However, I do not matter to them as I am just one guy versus Ferrari's order bank of 7,000 cars a year, with a fan base the world over.

    • @longtailgt
      @longtailgt 9 лет назад +4

      SPEED senz AZN And thats is exactly what is wrong with Ferrari. Their attitude. They think that people will buy their cars regardless of what, they can get away with anything.
      Do you think Porsche or McLaren won't sell cars if they lose a race or anything? No. They're just happy to have their cars compared with others. And Ferrari isn't.

    I'm a 997.2 Turbo S owner and i can personally tell you these cars are fast as hell every where. No need for a track, no need for reving to 9000 rpm and no need to outfit it in any special fashion. It is very well adapted in the city and on the highway plus gets great gas mileage for a Super Car. I think its "the best 911 at being the best all the time. "

  • @jamietherooster
    @jamietherooster 9 лет назад +32

    Finally a man who knows how to drive a 911 turbo, so many reviews and testers simply do not drive it to its full potential, it is a different car to the other mid engined cars and should be treated as such, just goes to show, when you know how to use it, the 911 turbo is untouchable.

      Suraj John Not defending the GTR, but its hard to compared the two when the GTR starts at 101k and the turbo s starts at 181k. I'd go GT3 (merely personal preference) or just buy a GTR and put that 80k I save into a Switzer kit to have a 1100hp GTR.

      Can Tavukçuoğlu There were a lot of rumors semi confirmed about it coming in 2-3 years but definitely after the refurb that they do to the cars mid life, bit like a .5

    • @turboman1505
      @turboman1505 9 лет назад +1

      Can Tavukçuoğlu It would be nice for them to make one. It would actually destroy cars like the Speciale and 650S, considering that it would have over 120 hp more than the current GT3 and would weight significantly less. And possibly have a PDK, together with rear wheel steering. But it would take away from potential buyers of both the 911 Turbo and the GT3, so that's why I think they're holding back. Its not very feasible at the moment

    • @scratchy996
      @scratchy996 9 лет назад +2

      turboman1505, Rumour is that the team that did the 918 is working on a new mid engine car slotted below the 918, that's why they won't build a GT2.

      Maxawe Some Oh that's right! Completely forgot about that. A direct competitor with McLaren and Ferrari's mid engine supercars. The only problem with that is we're not gonna see that car into production until 2017/2018. But Porsche has a way of making cars of the future so even if McLaren and Ferrari up their game, Porsche will still be one step ahead.

    • @vinsradek
      @vinsradek 9 лет назад +3

      headcrash69 When it comes to sports cars, there's no doubt about that. They're untouchable in that category, together with few cars from Lotus and Jaguar. Let's see what McLaren can do with their 570S and 540C.
      However, in supercar and hypercar category, it's the Ferrari who has the absolute and indisputable dominance and upper hand. LaFerrari won all comparsion test and reviews, it's rated as the ultimate driver's hypercar on the planet, nothing comes close to it. 458 Speciale is similiar story, it won every comparsion out there, every Car of the Year contest and it's one of the fastest machines on track. It has one of the best engines in the world, perfect balance and driving abilities, unmatched engine and chassis response, best sound, soul and character. It's very puristic and raw, just like the LaFerrari. Simply true driver's car. 911 Turbo S is very fast indeed, no doubt about it, but it's still dull, digital and too unemotional and sterile, like the GT-R. Great daily car, but for real car enthusiasts, there will always be better cars like the 458 Speciale, 911 GT3, Gallardo Squadra Corse and 650S.
      By the way, just look what Ferrari achieved in their recent golden era:
      Ferrari 458 Italia - best supercar for 6 years continuously
      Ferrari 599 GTO - best front engined supercar
      Ferrari 458 Speciale - best track focused sharp supercar
      Ferrari F12 - best super GT
      Ferrari LaFerrari - best hypercar and best current car in the world
      Porsche makes really impressive and capable cars, like the 911 GT3 (I would take it over the Turbo S any day), Cayman GTS and GT4, but there's no dominance in the supercar or hypercar category from their side.

If it weren't for the relative lack of noise and manual, that would be right at the top of the list. As it stands, the GT3 RS 4.0 is still THE drivers car to have if you must have a third pedal.

    What's even more amazing is that Porsche did not send a single engineer or a new set of tires for this lap time. Can't really say the same about Ferrari, or Mclaren when testing their P1.

    Some great driving , awesome review. These are truly amazing cars. I have a 2012, and plan to keep it long term. I like the slightly less refined 997.2, I think, although I have not had the chance to drive a new version. More inclined I think, to also buy a Cab. of the same vintage, as I can have both for the cost of one new or newer S. These cars are excellent value in the low mile used market, as they are reliable, and not so difficult or expensive to maintain as the Italian supercars.

    For everybody who's comparing with McLarens and Ferraris: With a Porsche you're excited on the race track today and tomorrow you're strolling through narrow and bumpy back roads in the highlands or in the alps. And the day thereafter you go to work with exactly the same car. Day after day. That makes the real difference! Welcome to "the Porsche world" :-)

      LifestylePorsche That's what McLaren are aiming for with the new 540C which is unbelievably slightly cheaper than the Turbo S. Porsche need to look over their shoulder as McLaren have only been building mass market cars for 3 years!

    That is amazing, Im speechless. 1.2 sec slower then a 918 makes me ask is the 911 turbo that good or is the 918 unimpressive. I know 1.2 sec in racing is a lot but not in the real world. Your not going to notice without a stop watch telling you which is faster.

    • @Stratocasterhead51
      @Stratocasterhead51 7 лет назад +3

      What you have to account for is the track. On a faster circuit i can assure you the 918 will be miles ahead. i reckon a good 4-5 seconds on SPA for example. Anglessey is a very VERY slow circuit. Hypercars dont get to express their full potential (900hp) since you can never get over 140mph anyway.
      Average speed of anglessey is between 60-70 mph (its 1.5miles and it takes over a minute to complete even in a 918 or a P1)
      This is also why the GT3RS is no faster than the turbo on this track (and the speciale is slower)
      People see a lap time and consider it the be all and end all to arguments when in fact tracks suit different cars.
      Anglessey is a HANDLING circuit.
      I can assure you i was taken on a hotlap in 918 by a proffessional on Paul ricard circuit in france. The difference between a 918 and a NON hyper car is otherworldy.

    • @wilsondillon1
      @wilsondillon1 7 лет назад

      KingKrusty Yes I totally get it and I would love to have a 918. But here's the thing for me. For that rare of a car and for that money shouldn't I be able to say "I can beat you like a drum on any track"?

    • @Stratocasterhead51
      @Stratocasterhead51 7 лет назад

      I see your point, but put it this way. A golf kart will be faster around a golf course than a formula 1 car. Because a formula one car doesnt have the turning circle or clearance that a golf kart does. Same for super cars and race tracks. Certain cars are designed to be fast on fast tracks. Anglessey is a slow track where the 918 and ESPECIALLY the P1 struggle to USE all the power they have at their disposal.
      The fact that the hyper cars are faster even on a track like this is a testament to how well they HANDLE.
      I can assure you a tiny Go-kart will be faster around a tiny karting circuit than a Laferrari. Does this mean that the go-kart is a faster car? No it doesnt.

    • @wilsondillon1
      @wilsondillon1 7 лет назад +1

      KingKrusty Yes your right in my back yard my 2 year old can push his toy car faster then any Ferrari or porsche.... So those cars aren't fast. No that's not the point at all. Most tracks and in most situations the 911 is with in a few seconds of the most expensive and most exclusive Super cars that is remarkable. That is my point.

    • @Stratocasterhead51
      @Stratocasterhead51 7 лет назад

      Well its a well known fact that the higher in performance the smaller the margin is. a P1 is 8x the price of a 570s, it doesnt make it 8x faster. Also a "few seconds" in motorsport is a considerable difference. In a quarter mile drag race a second of difference is a huge distance.

    The Porsche Turbo - Warping Time & Space since 1975.
    For about a decade in the back of Road&Track in the road-test summaries it "held the bold" for quickest 0-60 @ 5.0sec. Ferraris, Lamborghinis etc came and went but until the 959 & F40 came along it was KING of production road-legal thrust. Nowdays you can approach that time in a lot of cars with a few bolt-ons and and ECU tune for about 1/10th the price (after inflation), but in those days of crappy FI and dreadful cat-cons it was the closest thing to street-legal hyperspace.

    The Turbo S is by far the best choice out of any supercar.With a 0-60 time of 2.60s,this is faster than ...well everything.Only the rarest and ultra expensive hypercars,which cost like 7-8 times more can do slightly better,but so slightly that it really doesn't matter 0.1-0.2 of a second...This car is a perfect mix of performance,luxury,practicality,tradition, it just the perfect supercar with any compromise,and for those who complain about beeing soulless,get the cabriolet...Nothing beats a Turbo S,and Jethro Bovingdon is one of my few favourite reviewers,amongside with Steve Sutcliffe,Chris Harris,and Harry Metcalfe!!

    There's no doubting the 911 Turbo S' pulverising performance in a straight line or its mesmerising ability around a track but forced induction absolutely destroys the character of that flat 6. A standard Carrera sounds infinitely better and as for the GT3...there's just no competition. Despite its shocking breadth of ability, the 911 Turbo S comes across as a bit soulless.

      Joseph McDonald - I've been lucky enough to drive a 911 Carrera and a 911 Turbo S (admittedly 997 varieties). My experiences were somewhat different to yours.
      I liked the bog standard 911 Carrera better - it sounded much better and looked more appealing. I can't deny the 997 Turbo S was an awesome piece of kit (I'm sure the 991 is objectively even better) but it just didn't move me in any way. I wouldn't have one even if I could afford one.
