From Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema comes award-winning filmmaker Ryan Coogler’s “Creed.” The film explores a new chapter in the “Rocky” story and stars Academy Award nominee Sylvester Stallone in his iconic role. The film also reunites Coogler with his “Fruitvale Station” star Michael B. Jordan as the son of Apollo Creed.
Adonis Johnson (Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there’s no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed’s legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa.
Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer. Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo-the fierce rival who became his closest friend. Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring.
With Rocky in his corner, it isn’t long before Adonis gets his own shot at the title…but can he develop not only the drive but also the heart of a true fighter, in time to get into the ring?
“Creed” also stars Tessa Thompson (“Selma,” “Dear White People”) as Bianca, a local singer-songwriter who becomes involved with Adonis; Phylicia Rashad (Lifetime’s “Steel Magnolias”) as Mary Anne Creed, Apollo’s widow; and English pro boxer and former three-time ABA Heavyweight Champion Anthony Bellew as boxing champ “Pretty” Ricky Conlan.
Coogler directs from a screenplay he wrote with Aaron Covington, based on characters from the “Rocky” series written by Sylvester Stallone. The film is being produced by Robert Chartoff, Irwin Winkler, Charles Winkler, William Chartoff, David Winkler, Kevin King Templeton and Sylvester Stallone, with Nicholas Stern executive producing.
Joining Coogler behind the scenes are director of photography Maryse Alberti (“The Wrestler”) and costume designers Antoinette Messam (“Orphan”) and Emma Potts (“127 Hours”), as well as his “Fruitvale Station” team: editors Michael P. Shawver and Claudia Castello; production designer Hannah Beachler; and composer Ludwig Göransson.

it's not just the shot to shot editing of the trailer (although that is expertly crafted, too), it's also how it's internally built up to look like your run-of-the-mill inspirational boxing movie at first, and then it hits you with the rocky balboa reveal and you start to realize the pedigree you're dealing with here.

I don't understand how are people confused with Apollo's son age. Apollo died in 1985. His wife could've easily been pregnant when he died and gave birth in 85 or 86. Which would make him around 29-30. It's not that difficult.

Steven Wilson i thought this too but apparently Apollo died in 82. The movie came out in 85. Adonis could have been born in 83 which would make him 31-32. Age could still work as Adonis could be seeking Rocky at that stage in his career to get to another level. Also, the movie could start out taking place a few years ago like 2011 where Adonis would be in his late 20s.
The full "It ain't about how hard you can hit" line is so damn powerful. It's sad that it wasn't included in the final film, but I am also glad it remains as one of the best things of Rocky Balboa (Rocky VI)

It depends on your taste, but the rap soundtrack fit this story much better than a rock soundtrack would have.
Fair enough. I like rap music, so I loved the soundtrack and thought it brought a different element to the story and added depth to it, like the contrasting intros prior to the main fight. I also watch this on my home theater set up and I love it. But to each his own.
You got to evolve to succeed man, you can't be throwing in some 70's music in a 2015 movie when your trying to reach a newer generation. Plus this movie isn't even about rocky, he's just a supporting character. Clearly they made the right decision since it won many awards and is critically acclaimed.

If Drago does have a son, It's too early for Adonis to face him, he hasn't even become a champion yet, maybe in Creed 3 or 4 they'll face each other. I bet in Creed 2 he gets to fight that Danny Wheeler guy, the only boxer who has a championship title he can win since Conlan can't be challenged for a rematch because he is forced to retire to spend time in jail, besides, this movie obviously foreshadows their rivalry, especially since Danny's trainer is the son of Apollo Creed's trainer Tony Evers

This is how sequels should be expanding the movies world while still honoring the old movies. The very idea of this movie just wrecks movies like terminator genysis, just a sequel trying to retcon the other sequels because it didn't believe the others were good enough. This movie not only acknowledges that rocky is old now and shouldn't fight anymore (cough cough "Rocky Balboa") but it also shows a new character which has a good right for being introduced, Adonis Johnson which will be interesting to see how he interacts with rocky or even his dads legacy. If Dolph Lundrgren even cameos in this that would be awesome.
Not gonna happen prply due to Stallone claim that Drago, after the fight in Rocky 4, fell into a bottle of booze and killed himself but you never know he might've changed his mind.

When this trailer was released, first thing I did show’d it my father. Opening of the first week, it was me and him that watch it together. Father/son goals.
I almost shed a tear seeing this. My friend next to me was like "really?" but he just don't know how much this franchise has inspired me, he just don't know. 10/10, loved it so much!

I never knew how important Sylvester Stallone was until I heard my dad gasp when we saw this trailer in the theater. The first thing we did was the next weekend he showed me all the old Rocky movies and tbh it still is one of my best memories ever. Only thing that comes close is watching the original 6 star wars with my mom and dad and sisters

This ia fucking amazing.Just watched it,such a good movie.So fuckn goooodddd.Was a rookie fan since I was a kid and this brought back that live the movie feeling.When he got hit,I got hit.When Rocky said he wasn't gonna I was like come on Rock don't give up,it's just anothet fight take the hits and fight back.Just Imagine if Stalone dies and we remmeber him as he died the Rock dies of cancet too.Man my kids are gonna her a bunch of stories about my good 'ol days.

One of the best films of 2015. not sure if it was cold in my house, but when the scene of, Creed running in slow-mo with the bikers behind him it straight up gave me goosebumps. this movie did the Rocky franchise justice.
This movie was better than Star Wars...yes they are completely different but as far as film-quality goes. Creed was like a 10/10 while Star Wars ep 7 was a 7/10 at best.

I love the Rocky Saga and i am glad it's continuing with this new movie Creed. Apollo had a son we never knew about. Seems like its a cool storyline and a good way to hopefully end the saga.

This movie blew my mind, I honestly thought it would tank but im glad I was wrong, its a masterpiece and with coogler's directorial ability of laying in new fresh ideas to a beloved franchise then I can't wait for black panther even more now, fucking amazing movie by an amazing filmmaker.

This movie was PERFECT. Acting, plot, fight scenes, drama... just perfect. I've already seen it at the theaters twice and will probably go again. Can't wait to see the deleted scenes, too.

This movie was tight. The nostalgia gave me goosebumps. Favorite part was when he was having flashbacks and the last one showed Apollo and it woke him up.
