- In todays video we install a S&B Cold Air Intake on my 2018 Silverado!
This intake is designed to minimize air restriction, protect your engine from contaminates and work properly with factory tuning or custom tuning!
Will do an update video on my long term review so be sure to subscribe! Авто/Мото
Just installed mine, with no experience other then, with the help of this video! Thanks!! ❤️❤️
Greetings from Hayden, AL. I've been researching cold air intakes, and have come to the conclusion that the only true CAI is enclosed/separated from the engine bay. Thanks for posting this the day before I pull the trigger on it.
I have a turbo diesel with an s and b and on turbo charged engines they make a pretty big difference. My favorite part about s and b in particular tho is the build quality for the price. I’m glad it was able to make a difference on your truck too even if it was just a little bit
I have a S&B on my 7.3 powerstroke and I absolutely love it
I run one on my 16 6.2 Denali, love the sound even with the same exhaust you have but 3 inch!!
I kept my lower plus I had to drill a hole in it to set my K&N Blackhawk cold air induction system. I love it by the way. It was a high recommended system from K&N and I feel the difference big time in performance, gas mileage, and sound with my Flowmaster exhaust system.
Have the same 3.0 intake will be here tomorrow thanks for the great tips! Can’t wait to hear how it sounds yes sir
I put a cold air inductions intake on my 16 Silverado and it was a night and day difference on the sound. The mileage is around the same as it was stock. I put a tune and the intake on in the same day and it produced great results with power.
You could've don't that with the stock too.
Same. My sound difference made me thought think something was broke on my exhaust system for a second. Night and day sound difference for me
Just installed one. Throttle response is definitely improved
I got the s&b cai on my 2015 Silverado 5.3, I love em. I also had one on my 06 lbz duramax. Great product! I don't use the bottom plug on mine btw. I bought this before my exhaust and it sounded great. But now my dual cat back exhaust is louder than the cai so I no long hear it. Next for me is the dyno tune, by hp tunes.
Are you still liking the sb Cai. I have 2015 as well paying it off next month so looking to show it some love
I put my S&B CAI on a few weeks ago. Left the bottom plug out. It’s definitely loud and growls. Better throttle response. Maybe a 1 mpg better. I also have the stock exhaust on for now. Probably why I can hear it so we’ll. My friend also heard it when I passed him on the e-way the other day. Next purchase is a Carven cat back.
I did the knn it’s an open filter style and I could tell a huge difference in the sound she growled way different coming from a factory intake
I am also going to get the 5 Star tune thanks to your review of it!! Also the same reason I got the s&b intake!!
I have the same truck, but a 2017. I installed the same intake before I did my exhaust and it made a big difference! It also produced a lot of that deep engine sound when gassing the engine. Once I put on my exhaust, I don't hear it anymore, ever. It does improve performance of the truck but it's definitely minimal.
What kind of exhaust did you install?
@@dxpeboyj9074 I put on the Borla ATAK exhaust
@@PMad99 so don’t change the exhaust? Lol
@lui that's pointless... With the exhaust I hear it all the time
@@PMad99 for sure.. I’ve been thinking about the exhaust… I grew up with flowmasters… Is borla atak better??
Also you can take the factory connectors off the breather tubes and use them on the new hoses. Much cleaner. 👌
Nice looking install. Glad its a closed box instead of what I call a Hot Air intake. The plug on the bottom makes it a Dirt air intake.
I just installed the AFE magnum force, with the oiled filter. Doing a data log soon, and revise the tune.
Right now im just letting the computer learn for a few hundred km. Love the sound with a intake on these 5.3L though 👍. I looked at the air intake temp while driving, and it was 9dg. I need to see what it was before. Also i did open up the bottom part of the air box and the side of the box where the factory air inlet is. The kit i have uses the factory lower air box. And the filter support on your s&b was a good design 👍.
I got the black hawk k n. On my sierra and absolutely love it. A air intake is a must have and it easier to maintenance because it frees room in the engine bay to work in
I been wanting the black hawk for my 19 gmc but they been out of stock forever just gunna have to get the S&b what I’ve seen k&n is just louder s&b better for colder air flow
What’s the difference between the black hawk versions of KN then the just normal KN performance intake ? The black hawk cost more but is there more horse power or just more sound ?
Put one on my 2017 Silverado Z71 and it’s been a great product!! I left my plug in as well
Hell yea just got this today and going to install tomorrow. And installing MPRB catback as well
As your installing those PCV lines... was thinking you should look into an oil catch can to delete those lines... looks and sounds perfect !!!
Love how baby squat sounds 🔥🔥❤️❤️
I have the same 17 Z71 truck, 8 inch lift with 35s. Definitely a HUGE difference with the s&b intake. I did the resizable filter. Left my plug out. Getting about 1.5mpg more without changing anything else!! Definitely worth the money!!!!
😊
I had the bottom cover on for like 6 months till I decided to take it off and the truck definitely roars more and u can hear it . Next mod get the soler performance ( it’s like a pedal commander but it’s only $90)
That exhaust sounds so good.
glad i watched this right after your air raid one
Thanks for the install, getting some quick views before I install mine. I ultimately bought the Corsa intake for my 2015, looks similar to this SB with the clear cover. Im guessing most of these will perform the same though since its only an intake.
I have a volant intake on my truck, very similar design with the hole in the bottom which is actually for a ram air tube that goes under the bumper to get the coldest air.
The one dislike is k&n air company 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
What you don’t like silt getting into your engine?
LMFAO
Had a K&N intake with a open cone oiled filter on a 05 escalade with the 6.0. You definitely couldn't really notice it until I floored it. Had people say it sounded like an interceptor when they'd race me lol.
I've been running the s and b for 20k miles overall little better performance, makes a nice noise that's sounds pretty cool lol
Does the plug in the bottom make a difference?
I just installed this in my 2018 silverado. One change is the top clear cover does not screw in, it fits in similarly as the bottom plug fits in. I do not have an exhaust but instantly i could hear the engine have a fair deep growl to it.
Might be buying a 2018 Chevy 1500 for sure going to do this if I get it
Truck sounds and looks good I'm currently looking at cold air intakes for my 2018 I would like to go with the best one I would not have to clean all the time and does it improve miles per gallon?
I did this on my 03 5.3 I noticed it instantly. I also disconnected the Negative on the battery while doing it and let the computer relearn the intake. A lot of people forget to do that.
Would be doing your self a favor to run the PCV lines to a catch can vented to atmosphere and keep that oil grime and residue out the intake manifold and valves
I’m thinking of getting this CAI on my 22 but I heard and read about the dirt and oil on maf sensor so I think I might have to get that too
For my 2015 silverado 5.3, I got the Cold Air Inductions and I love it.
Which one did you go with?
Its call Cold Air Inductions
@@Dinovece1 its. about 100 dollars more than this s&b intake
Is there a difference
Just bought a 2020 1500, hope this video will assist with that one
I traced the inside of the box to fender gasket with a pencil and cut the extra metal out of the way then smoothed the edged a bit with a file ... Figured it would flow a little better with a bigger opening in the fender
Truck super clean🔥
Running that same one on my 2016 Silverado.
I installed the same intake on my truck this morning I kept the plug out first impressions it’s awesome I love it my truck runs better shifts better and overall drives better also makes my Borla ATAK sound a lot better with all the extra cold air the stock intake is garbage
Warm air intake guy. Tell me how it’s getting cold air. Sorry to be that guy but let me know how
6.2/5.3?
@@rogerfuller7876 do u not know what a cold air intake is?? 🤣
Isn't your exhaust loud as hell as is with that exhaust
Do these fit 2018 silverado v6 4.3? Or only the v8s I can't seem to find one that fits a v6
Love to see some headers. And maybe a procharger down the road.
Definitely boost of some sort
And cam
Would this give a check engine light? Or any lights on the dashboard?
Is it normal for oil pressure gauge to fluctuate around after CAI? Intalled s&b on 2014 silverado. never noticed the gauge move until after the intake
Bro your truck is 🔥..sorry had to grab 1 .
Unplugging the bottom plug is only beneficial if you are going to run some sort of ducting to draw Cold Air into the box from outside of the engine bay. Otherwise the hot air from the engine will negate any sort of "gains" from filter upgrade. this has been proven time and time again. In fact, as you have pointed out, the factory inlet is actually a Cold Air Inlet.
I run an S&B cold air intake on my 2019 duramax. Didn’t know S&B made intakes for gas engines as well lol😂 like the new intake and looks amazing🤘🏻
Yeah they make it for pretty much everything lol
diesels are so much better then gas when adding HP and TQ
Do you know if this would void warranty ? I have the same truck just 2016 model ?
Pull the plug on the bottom, will that cause any check engine light problems etc?
Well, you're making me spend more of my money. 😬 😉👍 Just placed an order from S&B for this same intake with the dry filter. I've never liked the oiled version with any filter. The price has definitely gone up since you bought yours too. Almost doubled, but it does have free shipping so that made up for a little bit. Ordered straight from S&B because the site I usually order from was out of stock. They say I'll have it Saturday so I will get it installed Sunday most likely as long as the weather cooperates. Still winter here in the central USofA.....
Are you still running the Range AFM disabler?
Ever thought about installing an oil catch can? You can really extend the life of the motor, plus its a budget friendly mod.
150+ isn't exactly budget friendly as say 50 bucks which is what it should cost.... im0
Color match the intake tube 👌
I put an airaid intake tube on my Avalanche with a drop in k&n air filter and I feel like it gave me better throttle response. I had a cold air intake on that I got used on Facebook marketplace and there was less than a second difference between the 0-60 times between the two systems. So I sold the cold air intake and kept the airaid intake tube with the k&n drop in filter in the stock air box. The cold air intakes are a waste of money in my opinion.
What kind of tire pattern or type of tire is that? And are those rims off a high country? Looks like the ones on my high country
Hey I just stumbled on your vid. What exhaust do you have? 5.3? Your truck looks and sounds mean brotha
Hand down the most accurate review of the s&b cai. installed one on my 2009 5.3 with true duals a few weeks ago very similar to yours and your spot on with this review. Should mention did not see a big difference with the plug removed.
Have u had problems with that cylinder deactivation?
Installed this on my 2014 5.3 Denali and I got my CEL on tried evruntimg including changing the sensor but no luck had to go back to my stock intake any thing else I could try to get it to go off next time I install ?
What size piping do you have for the chevy for exhaust
Couldnt help but notice the brake fluid appear to be possibly low...dont want it sloshin round & such, top it up???🙏 ...(idk if iv razzed on it b4 but this channels cool & chill)💪🔧🔩🤙*all in good fun😁
I have a 2018 Chevy Silverado 5.3 and I have the oiled version of the s&b air filter. I did not remove that bottom bracket of the previous air filter I just put the s&b filter on top of that. I leave mine unplugged. I have no issues. However the hose that comes from the engine on the passenger side has a bend in it I'm not sure if yours does as well. So I think I might try to find a longer hose I can not make that such an abrupt turn to go to the air intake.
I have the same truck hated the bend went to auto stor got 5/8 hose with a 90 degree bend and just cut it on ends to make it fit snug ez day. still have my Mas popping my check inside light can't get it to stop
What kind of exhaust do you have?
Instead of the black top.. you can put a screen on it to give it an extra cover against water or other waste
Broke the red tab on the MAF on my 14 as well! 🤣
I have the same set up in my 2017, i had the replaceable filter, winding up, went back with the cotton and a filter wrap, and took the bottom plug out, noticeably different, way more sound and throttle response with the bottom plug out and a cotton filter, the filter wrap does not affect it
So you didn’t oil the cotton filter you just put the wrap and where did you get the wrap
@@reidweathersby6450 you can get them on Amazon just look up s&b filter wrap
Is it better with the plug in the bottom or would it be better with it off?
You should paint the piping of the intake white that would look really sick
Bottom plugged or unplugged? Did anyone see any performance pros and cons?
Can you get a high flow washable filter with these instead of a paper filter?
What exhaust are you running? and is it tuned in this video?
I ordered my s&b on 10/31 and still haven’t got shipped out. I got oil.
What exhaust setup do u have bro??
Great video. Thanks
Why didn’t you show that you have to remove the stock mount on the bottom?
What's your exhaust set up? She sounds gooooodd
Did you leave the plug in or out of the box? I'm thinking about getting the same one that you have, but wanted to know and have you noticed any mpg gains and throttle response gains? Thanks
If street truck I'd say no. If offroading I'd leave it in less chance mud gets on your filter
i’ve got one on my 10thgen f150 had felt a pretty decent change in throttle response put one on larry next if you haven’t already can’t remember if you have
My 5.3 put out the best numbers with stock exhaust and intake. Weird
Yo I don’t run the plug on my CAI.. am I supposed to? Lol
I guess my question would be would water get in if you leave the bottom plug out of the box. Flood zones and water is a thing where I live.
I just got a S&B filter for my ram 1500... and its very nice, but it was a PAIN to install... I guess the parts fitting so tightly together is what makes it quality.
what exhaust are you running?
Did your check engine light come on ?
You mentioned that since the new filter is a cylinder and able to draw air in from all directions means it will be better than the flat filter. You are missing one very important part of the equation here. It absolutely does not matter what shape the filter is in when comparing air flow. It only matters when you are comparing surface area. So you need to measure the flat filter in square inches, along with the cylindrical filter square inch surface area. If you were to cut the round filter and lay it flat, would it be bigger, smaller or the e same size as the flat filter you removed?
Do you get the check engine light on if you install it ?
You made them clamps look easy i broke mine trying to get it off
Love that comment, “I’m not going read that instruction, it can’t be that complicated.”
Take plug out sounds good on mine
Use the plug or not? I left mine in for now
What tires are you ruining they look nice as good tires make a vehicle
I installed my S&B COI and I’m not happy with it. When you first accelerate I get a chirping sound and then around 50 mph I get shuddering. I think it needs a tune, but it says no tune required. 😢
Speaking of rock chips in this video... does your paint chip very easily? I have an 18 as well with 33x12.5 and I get chips like CRAZY. It’s a weekly thing to use touch up paint.
Yep chevy paint sucks, mines got hundreds lol
...Maybe don't run offset geekball wheels 🥴
You still running that Range?
You should also put a catch can on it too.
What tires is on that white chevy?
Next find a reputable shop and reputable tuner. Use HP tuners to tune the truck. Also future install. Jlt oil catch can. You be really surprised how much oil bypass it catches
Pull the plug out of the bottom it performs way better and you will be able to hear it suck more air my experience with it is awesome
Getting ready to install mine, do you mean the plug he was talking about on the bottom where he said the heat would come in??
Yes it is recommended from s&b to leave it out but if you do lots of gravel roads leave it in
Let’s see some shorty headers and a tune!
