    Thank you! Based on following both of you, I purchased a 2024 4Runner TRD ORP, changed the oil at 800 miles and will again every 5,000. Super happy with our new rig. Because of the dated (but reliable) tech, we nicknamed it Jurassic. Great to see beautiful downtown Vancouver BC in the background!

    Ahmed you are so right!!! Get into your car and have time alone with it. I love to get in there clean the engine compartment, dust everything, spray a little cleaner, vacuum the air filter compartment and check the filter and make it look good. Follow with an oil change and get a rag and wipe down the undercarriage as you look at everything. Check tire pressure. Finish off giving it a nice inside and out cleaning then go for a drive.

    Good to see an Engineer and a Mechanic who are not only knowledgable, but honest together. I follow both of your channels. Listen to your advice. We are very happy with our 2014 4Runner and a 2023 Rav4 Hybrid. We are planning on adding a 2025 Rav4 Prime and getting a 2026 4Runner Trailhunter to replace our current one. Just frustrated with all the production delays and huge price increases. Had to pay over sticker for our Rav4, they need to solve the price gouging issue! Peace.

    AMD is the Best! I quit a dealership in 1980 and got a real paying job. I have always said that If I had the $$ I would have a dealership with head mechanics that would train my youthful mechanics like I was at the time and pay them a very good wage I would have to open more repair shops to handle the load. Fortunately I have the independent bros that I would trust my life with and will never have the dealer do a thing for me. I forgo free oil changes on my new rav 4 and do it myself!! In my Corolla GR I change my oil every 2500 miles (half what the book says) with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20. I have 20k miles and have done my 8th oil change. Oil is cheap engines are not! Plus my friend is a master tech at Toyota he does my maintenance. Did my transmission fluid & diff and transfer case at 10k. Break fluid at 20k. The only fluid I haven’t changed is coolant because it only has 20k, I think I will flush it at 30k miles.

    David also made a good point on resale value. You can have a mint excellent condition car inside and out, top to bottom, but it doesn’t matter anymore. Now all they worried about what year it is and how many miles. Oh you have a 2020 Camry SE with 130,000 miles, it’s worth 10k. Doesn’t matter if you can eat off the engine or even the floors.

    I agree with the short oil change intervals, but have there been any issues with using these low viscosity oils like 0W-20, 0W-16, and now 0W-8? In the past they would give you viscosity recommendations based on driving condiitons. Now the manual says "An oil with a higher viscosity (one with a higher value) may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds, or under extreme load conditions," but they offer no gudiance as to what those conditions are or what oil viscosities would be suited. In the past they would say if you drive in "severe driving conditions," usually described as under load, hot climates, short trips, heavy traffic etc., to use a higher viscostiy oil, and they would have several viscosity recommendations to choose from. My spouse and I are each looking at getting new Toyota's but we live in SoCal where heavy traffic, short trips, and oftentimes triple digit temps in the summer are the norm. Will these thinner oils be adequate? Am I worrying for nothing?

    Mercedes (E450, GLE450 etc) has Inline 6-cylinders and so does BMW. And now Mazda too.
    Mercedes moved back to Inline-6s (3.0L Turbo) from their prior V6 models, mainly since the 3.0L Inline-6 in practice, is a 2.0L Inline-4 cylinder with 2 extra cylinders added on, at one end (or the 2.0L Inline-4 is the same as the 3.0L Inline-6 engine, with 2 cylinders on one of the ends missing) thus allowing the 2.0L Inline-4s and the 3.0L Inline-6s to be manufactured on the same production line.

I’ve got a 1999 Land Cruiser with 292k miles (470k km) here in Toronto area in mint condition and no rust. Change oil every 6 months or 3k miles. All fluids tested and results always great BUT still stick to the severe conditions intervals as AMD states regardless what the labs say for me to keep going longer on fluid. Nope. I want to keep it going another 25 years. Plus fluid changes with Toyota fluids are so easy and cheap to do myself. Thanks you two!

    Car Care Nut fails to mention that the "0W-8 is required" instructions in the USA Camry owners manual is a "requirement" the US Environmental Protection Agency imposes on Toyota for political reasons (best fuel economy reasons). Outside of the USA (e.g. Mexico), owners manuals say the recommended viscosities range from 0W-8 to 5W-30. There are no engineering differences between USA and Mexican Camry motors.

    • @Dimitrius001
      @Dimitrius001 23 дня назад

      Exactly, and this has me concerned. The manual for the 2024 Rav$ manual says "An oil with a higher viscosity (one with a higher value) may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds, or under extreme load conditions," but they offer no gudiance as to what those conditions are or what oil viscosities would be suited. In the past they would say if you drive in "severe driving conditions," usually described as under load, hot climates, short trips, heavy traffic etc., to use a higher viscostiy oil, and they would have several viscosity recommendations to choose from.
      Like you, I've looked at owners manuals for different world markets, and have found that up to 5w-30 is rocommended as well. I'm conflicted as to whether I should use the heavier oil. My understanding is that as long as the oil meets the spec (API SN, or ILSAC GF-5 for example), then all viscosities that meet that spec are fine for your car.

Recently got a 4G Tacoma and plan on doing a break in oil change between 500 and 1000 miles and inspect for shavings and FIPG remnants. I have had many turbo cars in the past and had between 400K and 500k on them & did 3K miles oil changes with no major issues.
