Danny Carey still has it. Soooo ready for Tool 2018.
Danny Carey never lost it. He's just been on hiatus since TOOL hasn't been working on anything until recently. And they say that TOOL may release their album this year. It all depends on when Maynard is done with vocals. And with APC doing a few dates and releasing their new album soon, who knows. I know both bands will be at a festival in Wisconsin in May.
+Oaknot 620 Danny Carey hasn't been in complete hibernation, he toured with Primus a couple of years back filling in for an injured Tim Alexander. Tool bassist Justin Chancellor is the narrator on the new Primus LP too

Brent solo is amazing
Supergroups are the new pop culture thing of amazing. I am a huge fan of Tool and Mastodon. The production values and quality musicianship have always been there and draw me to a big new project like this like a moth to a flame. You can hear all the sounds from the bands you love melding into a great piece of music from great musicians and artistic minds. Music of the highest quality. Great minds brought together.

+Evan L I agree, supergroups have been around since the 60's but the digital age has made it easier for like-minded artists to collaborate without being completely bound by label contracts etc. Some are more prolific than others & have become renowned for their work within as well as aside from their main projects. Mastodon alone have members in Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, Primate, Killer Be Killed & Legend Of The Seagullmen

This band is hilarious. The sqwaking seagulls and creaking ships, epic seafaring lyrics lol. They're really committed to creating some kind of weird lore. The music is great though.

Wow. I mean, it's amazing how one band member can make such a difference in how you like a band... I absolutely love Danny Carey's drums and style of playing. Never been a big fan of Matsodon or Dethklok (I don't dislike them, but, they just never really caught my attention). I really like this sound though and I can totally see how much Danny's drums

I find Killer Be Killed incredibly generic. Giraffe Tongue Orchestra on the other hand, while not being revolutionary, has great songwriting and performances. Also, check out Nova Collective if you like forward-thinking instrumental stuff. (I haven't listened to Sons of Apollo yet.)
I liked Gone is Gone the most out of the Mastodon spin-off bands.

I’m a huge tool fan, not a big fan of mastodon but I respect what they do, sorry to say I wasn’t impressed by this unfortunately. I was excited about it. Maybe the next song will be better?

I think the vocalist is actually fine, especially for literally any other band. But Brent's voice is literally perfect for this band's subject matter.
In fairness, the guy singing, according to interviews, writes all the shit and came up with the idea for the band in the first place. It's really 'his' band
