    Enjoyed watching that, thank you. Gerda Nicholson was never ill, her tragic death was sudden and in her dressing room.
    Storylines that didn't work on Australian TV would have to include the return of Rowena Wallace to Sons & Daughters (as Pat's sister). By the time the scenes came to air, the decision had already been made to axe the show

    Thanks so much Matt and Coral for these fascinating videos. I have a question : I have never quite understood the disappearance of Australian drama as a mainstay of UK television. When I was growing up in the UK in the 80s and 90s, we imported lots of Australian shows: Prisoner; Neighbours; Home & Away; Sons & Daughters; Flying Doctors; A Country Practice. Kids TV also had series such as Round the Twist and Genie from Down Under. But after the millennium, Neighbours and H&A were moved to Channel 5. We rarely see Australian shows now and almost never on prime time on the main channels. A recent exception is the wonderful show The Newsreader, but I understand the BBC bought this in only to fill a gap in scheduling.
    Am I right that something changed in the 2000s? Did Australia stop producing? Did UK broadcasters stop buying? Did the tastes of UK audiences change? Did this change affect the TV industry in Australia? I'd be very interested to hear if you have a take on this.

    From what I remember as a 15 year old in 1992. In the lead up to Todd Lander's death in "Neighbours" Channel 10 screened a TV ad showing a slow montage of Black and White portrait style photos of key cast members with a voiceover saying "One of these young lives is going to cut short......tragically". Then followed by audio of an Ambulance crew trying to resuscitate someone. So us the viewers did in fact know someone was going to die. The question was WHO?

    Prisoner Royalty, Coral Drouyn AM surely! Though after Coral's comments about King Charles I think she might have a 30 year wait like her daughter!
    Thank you so much Matt and Coral.
    I'll need to drop you guys an email but I'd love to hear more about where Coral based herself and how on earth did she manage to not go the set more often to see her ideas come to life. Was Coral based at a Grundy office in the Melbourne CBD or did she ever use an office at Nunawading? I often wondered where the production staff were based at the Channel 10 building.
    Thank you Coral - Love you!
    Ps Is there a PO Box or email to contact Coral? Don't worry I'm no Baby Reindeer......❤

    Myra's death was shocking to me, I didn't know Ann Phelan was going to leave the show. The episode end with her been shot, and I thought, no she will not be dead, she is the top dog! But in the next episode it was clear she is dead. I still can't get over it.

    I've been rewatching Wentworth lately, and Kaz Proctor, on reflection, does seem quite inspired by Myra. And Ruth Ballinger seems a bit of an inspiration for (Wentworth) Marie Winter.

  • @devontehuntley6274
    @devontehuntley6274 8 месяцев назад +1

    The original Myra ending could have still worked. If she's out of the prison then why not have her escape and leave her fate unknown? There was really no need to axe her life when you just killed Bea off just sixteen or so episodes before.

    The van crash involved Bea and she got amnesia. Deniese Morgan wrote that script. All you do is copy storylines that other(and more talented writers than you) did previously.

    • @allenmx
      @allenmx 8 месяцев назад +4

      Denise may have written the episode but the storyline would have come from elsewhere - Val claims the credit for that one. Hopefully you’ll pay attention to Coral’s specific comment directed at you during this Soapbox!!
