    Replacing filter for Bestway, Intex, Coleman stock pump. This video shows a quick and easy way to replace the filter for above ground pool that does not come with shutoff valve and without using the included stopper.
    Please note that I am not a professional pool guy. I am simply sharing my experience with the Bestway Power Steel Above Ground Pool that I have purchase last year for my kids. There are more than one way of maintaining a pool and this this how I was able to maintain mine without upgrading the filter system that came with it like most people did.
    The included filter can be reused over and over as long as you keep it clean. The trick is to do a regular filter cleaning so that the buildup will not get a chance to permanently attached to the filter membrane.
    Also, replacing or cleaning the filter regularly (at least once a week) will help in keeping the pool water clean.
    A lot of people who purchased an above ground pool complain that the filter that comes with the pool is not strong enough to clean the water. I have the same concern as this is my first pool purchase. I was already looking for a bigger pump before I even purchase the pool but fortunately, I decided to first see how the stock pump/filter will perform and realized that most complain could be because most people who purchase this type of pool are a newbie in pool care just like I am without proper understanding on how water chemistry work.
    The pump needs to run for at least 2 complete water turnover cycle. So for this pool that is close to 2,000 gallon and pump rated at 530 GPH, this pump will need to run for a minimum of 8 hours for it to clean your pool water. Having a bigger pump/filter system will of course help you keep your pool clean easier because it can do more water turnover cycle in the same or even less amount of hours.
    Aside for the amount of time you need to run your filter, you also need to have basic understanding of PH and Alkalinity. For pool this size, your PH can go up significantly when you use the pool if your alkalinity is too low which makes all the powdered chemical you added into the water becomes visible. You need to keep the PH balance between 7.4-7.6 so that your chlorine can work more efficiently in cleaning your water and to prevent algae growth.
    Please don't forget to subscribe, I will add more videos about my experience in maintaining this pool as I encounter them.
    Thank you for watching.

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  Год назад

      That will depend on your use but a month is definitely too long. I have 4 people use it almost daily and I clean the filter every 4 or 5 days. Just feel the water that goes back into the pool and if you can't feel it from 12 or more inches then it is time to replace or clean the filter.

    Definitely gonna try this! I always have issues keeping the seal in. You can also buy cartridge filter cleaner.

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  2 года назад

      Make sure to put the seal in between the top cover and the plastic ring. I have made a mistake of putting the seal in before the cover and it keeps leaking. Also for the cartridge filter cleaner you can purchase some chemical or a garden hose attachment from Amazon just search for "pool cartridge filter cleaner". I never use those things as garden hose can do the same stuff. You can soak it in dish detergent if you want it cleaner. I just uploaded a video dedicated to cleaning the filter.

      I wish mine was so easy to change. I have a 12’ Bestway pool whose filter size is a III.
      Trying to tighten the grey outer ring, it leaks. Can’t tighten it any more. Does your top (that has the air release valve) have up down movement or is it suctioned down?
      I ask bc when i go to release the air, that grey top part can be pushed down & then water gushes out. Wouldn’t be a problem if it sealed

    Thanks, this helped me change and clean the filter for the first time. We’ve had the pool up 5 days. Does your pump make a whirring sound?

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  Год назад

      It makes a regular soft motor hum that you won't hear if you are standing about 5 ft away. If it is making an unusual sound it probably have air in it. Make sure that you open the valve until the water comes out and that there is no more air bubbles in the hoses.

      The pump that came with my pool are good enough to clean the water. Can you explain why do you think it does not have enough power on the pump? Did you replace the filter with a new one? If you just replaced the filter, can you feel the water at least 1 ft away from the water output hose into the pool?

    I have the same pump and it clogs after just a few hours, the filter looks a little bit dirty, not close to what you got! I usually clean the filter and then it works okay for a few more hours and then again, same problem

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  Год назад

      When you say it works OK for a few hours, does the filter stop running after a few hours or the water coming out of the return becomes too weak?
      Do you prime the pump after replacing or cleaning the filter?

    • @Djambo57
      @Djambo57 Год назад

      @@diymanual The water flow becomes too weak. I always get the air out of the pump when replacing the filter. I did put some flocculant so maybe that's why it clogs so often. Maybe it will clear the water after a few days and then work normally... We'll see :)

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  Год назад

      Yes. This filter is too small and using a flocculant will clog it quickly. You can use this technique if the dirt settles into the floor ( ruclips.net/video/kzmrplvDhws/видео.html ).
      You can also cover the outlet strainer with sock or pool sock to filter the bigger stuff before it goes into the filter cartridge. This way, you don't have to keep cleaning the filter. You can just wash or replace the sock every few hours or every day depending on how quickly it captures the dirt.
      What is the reason that you decide to use a flocculant? I am just asking because algae bloom can also clog your filter quickly. Just wanted to make sure you are using the right chemical to your pool so you are not wasting money.
      Hope this helps.

      @@diymanual Well, this was my first time getting a pool and we had a pool supply shortage in the city so I couldn't get the chlorine float right away but a few days after I installed the pool.
      I tried making my own floats but ended up bleaching the bottom of the pool so I took them out immediately after I noticed that.
      For the flocculant, a guy working at the store said I need all of those so I went for it since chlorine levels were not up to standards for the first few days.
      So looks like that's the problem 😁
      Thank you so much for your help!

      I was on the same boat when I setup my first pool in 2020. My advise is don't buy all the chemicals that pool store suggest. Focus on balancing the water and keeping it sanitized.
      My 2 cents.
      1. Get a test kit that you are comfortable using.
      2. Download the Pool Math app from TFP. I found it more accurate than the clorox or hth app.
      3. Test Your Water source. This will give you an idea what chemicals you will need to start your pool.
      4. Test Your pool water. This will help you know when and what chemicals you will need to add.
      5. You can shock the pool so you begin with clean water.
      6. Make sure you add CYA (start with 30 ppm)
      7. Add Chlorine
      8. Work on balancing PH and Alkalinity.
      Once you get your Alkalinity in the proper range your PH will become stable and all you need to do is maintain the chlorine level. Every pool is different but in my case, I takes 2 to 3 weeks to get my alkalinity in proper range.
      If you are willing to share number of gallons your pool have and the test result from your water source + the result from your pool water I might be able to give you some pointers.

    How long do you run your pump a day or week?

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  2 года назад +2

      at least 8 hours daily. The rule is 2 full complete turnover. This pump is 530gph and the pool is close to 2000 gallon so I need to pump 4000 gallon for 2 full turnover.
