I am always amazed at how many people from Florida move to the Denver area. You see Florida license plates all over Denver. The Denver Metro Area is the complete opposite. Weather People/Culture Environment Politics etc....... It doesn't get anymore opposite.
It really depends on what part of Florida you are comparing. Florida is huge and diverse. Even the weather has some variation. The northern parts (panhandle) is culturally Southern - like Alabama and south Georgia and the weather is similar as well (temperate dry winters, humid and hot long summers). Miami is culturally more like Latin America than anything else and the climate is fully tropical. Like most state, most large cities lean liberal with rural areas are firmly conservative.
That’s true, it is a substantial change in so many factors, and it is interesting how many people we trade with people from Florida coming here and people from Colorado going there.
I'm moving from Orlando, Florida to Colorado Springs in November/December timeframe. Mainly for a change and easier access to mountains, but here are my reasons: 1. Weather. Orlando is oppressively hot and humid most of the year - we just run from one air conditioned bubble to another. The winters are glorious - but that lasts only 1-3 months, and I would rather be skiing. 2. Mountains vs Beaches. We haven't been to the beach in years but we love skiing. 3. Mountain view vs palm trees - I'm exchanging my palm trees for a mountain view. I wish I could have both but I can't afford to live in California. 4. Outdoor living (related to weather). Orlando is simply too hot to be outside most of the day and I'm not an early morning person. Politically, I'm basically swapping a liberal city in a somewhat conservate state for a somewhat conservative city in a liberal state. I will be paying a lot more to make this switch - in addition to the increased housing cost, I'm adding the expense of a state income tax - which I haven't had to pay in over 12 years.
I really appreciate you watching and thank you so much for sharing your perspective! I have spoken with several people with a similar sentiment, and I think it’s easy for people who do NOT live anywhere near the ocean, like folks in Colorado, to think that people near the coast go to the ocean all the time and can’t be away from it. And of course, you can’t beat the skiing! Any idea what part of Denver you want to aim for?
@@destinationdenvercolorado Yep. We are building a new home in the Wolf Ranch community in northern Colorado Springs. The kids will be in Academy D20. My eldest daughter is looking at attending UCCS in the Spring 2024 most likely. We looked around Denver, but nothing felt like home like Colorado Springs and we found a lot with a great view of Pikes Peak and the southern Front Range.
I'm going to move to Colorado briefly for the winter working a seasonal position at copper mountain and i am beyond excited I'm born and raised in Tampa and I am a 3rd generation Floridian And I've only seen snow once when i visted Chicago 4 years ago lol I'm ready for a change
My wife and I moved from Colorado to northeast Florida last year and absolutely love Florida. Cost of housing, increasing taxes in Colorado (primarily small business), urban sprawl, drought conditions, increasing homeless population are among the reasons we left Colorado. Florida is less expensive when comparing apples to apples. We lived in Fort Collins and loved the area. Our house we bought would have been 60% higher on a smaller lot. That said, Colorado will always have a special place in my heart but Florida’s first coast is now home.
I appreciate you sharing that, I can understand the benefits of making the move to Florida, and that sounds like you’re in a great place! My former boss moved out that way, towards the panhandle, and he and his family love it as well!
@@destinationdenvercolorado , we definitely miss the summers in Colorado for sure. It is more humid in the summer in Florida but this is about a 4 month window followed by 7-8 months of terrific weather. A couple of things I failed to mention is that the healthcare system in Colorado is much better than Florida. We really miss our insurance carrier who is based out in the west. Insurance across the board is more expensive in Florida but isn't a deal breaker for my wife and me. If you can send some dryer weather to us for the summer I would appreciate it! Cheers!
We're in Northeast Florida, Saint Johns, and we are moving to Colorado. We were looking seriously at Fort Collins but I think we have settled on Sterling Ranch. In the last year our home owners insurance doubled. The heat is brutal and getting worse. We've never been into the beach. We're excited to see hills, mountains and snow. Between the altitude and the hiking Colorado is a better place to be fit and active. Lifestyle is our biggest driver.
@@mrbuckmeister, best of luck in Colorado. Fort Collins is fabulous and we loved it there. There is much to do there and yes, summers are terrific. We’re 2 1/2 miles away from the Atlantic in Palm Coast. It hasn’t been unbearable in terms to the heat but it is hotter for sure. No state income tax is a plus and insurance isn’t a deal breaker but it is a tad higher. Property tax seems to be a little less in Palm Coast compared to Fort Collins. This might have to do with the Homestead exemption and lower cost of homes. Both states are very sunny which is a must for me and my wife. We go to Crescent Beach on a regular and will have a pool built by the end of next summer.
Very cool - that is the feedback I get from a lot of people that live near a coast, that the ocean is great but that rarely actually visit it. Thank you for watching!
Husband grew up in Co, join usmc and retire 2 years ago and only wants to retire in CO. So we live here for 2 years now. He said this is not the same COlorado, nothing like back in 80’s-90’s. Now we are preparing to move to Pensacola, a more “veteran friendly state” we will see.
@destinationdenvercolorado I thing I do miss is denver's urban feel but tampa make it up in weather, water and its massive metropolitan size. Every area and city in the bay has its own thing going on

Lived in Tampa Florida for the past year and for us leaving it is the mixture of terrible driving and weather. Also it is super flat. The ocean is great but I am not a huge beach fan. Glad we lived there for a year but not right for us.
Florida is great if you are into beaches and theme parks and don't mind the weather. Driving is bad pretty much regardless of where you live. I'd probably prefer Tampa over Orlando for weather simply because the ocean breeze moderates the temps a bit but just 20 minutes inland and it's just a muggy swamp. However, then you have to worry about hurricanes a bit more on the coast - so it's a tradeoff. We have lived here 12+ years and enjoyed it but it's time for a change.
I get that from a lot of people that tried moving to Florida. They often say it’s an amazing place to visit or spend a few months in, but living there isn’t it. I appreciate you watching!!
@@destinationdenvercolorado Like a lot of places - it really depends what you're into. Orlando specifically if a theme-park destination so a lot of families relocate just for that reason and just put up with the climate. To be fair, winters are pretty amazing. I think the play is to be a snowbird and just spend the winters here. But, at this point in my life, I'd rather have access to skiing.
Let's see. Hills are big. Mountain are amazing but after you live in Florida for a while you really appreciate having any hills at all. The closest we get here are bridges. Obviously, lack of humidity his huge and so is lack of bugs. I am looking forward to the altitude and the incline which make it much easier to be fit. Biking is Florida is one long flat endless straight away. Even walking in Denver is better. I can burn twice the calories in the same distance and I don't have to wait until the sun goes down to avoid heat stroke. Have you ever played any sport on turf in Florida in the summer? The heat will literally activate the glue in your cleats and make your shoes fall apart. You have to take breaks to pour water on your feet. Yes we have water everywhere but you better love salt too because fresh water is hard to come by. The closest thing to Colorado's refreshing mountain streams and alpine lakes is the Florida springs which are great but Colorado has a lot more fresh water. By the way, I am not counting Florida's swamps and retention ponds. I mean fresh natural water. Your swimming pool doesn't count either. We all know what people do in those. :-) If anyone wants to trade, ping me. We can both keep our sub 3% mortgages and live where we like.
I’m from the Destin Florida area, but live in the Mobile Alabama area. Imo the weather in this area is way overrated. 1) Mobile- Pensacola area gets 60 plus inches of rain a year. 2) Summers are hot, muggy, and wet. You are not going outside to do anything. Except cut grass and hope you can dodge a thunderstorm. 3) Winters for the most part are wet and partly cloudy. Temperatures could be in the 30’s or in the 70’s. There will be rain though. 4) best months for weather is April and October. 5) food is great in the area though. Especially Mobile. 6) if you are single don’t live in this area. I digress ha.
Thank you for watching and for sharing that! Mobile was an area that had interested me for the future, it’s good to know that the weather isn’t all it’s cracked up to be!
Depends on what you like. Florida is great is you can handle hot and muggy conditions for most of the year. It can be 85F in January - that might sound like paradise for some. The problem is that feels good in January but 95F in August with 95% humidity is oppressively muggy. We just run from one air conditioned bubble to another - not much time is spent outside for most of the year. Hurricanes are an issue (but not as big of a deal as most would think) and it is driving up insurance costs - however no state income tax does help offset somewhat. My long term plan is to do both - live in Colorado and Florida!
I know some folks here in Colorado that agree with you, and plenty of Florida here that don’t! Haha. As long as your happy, home is where the heart is! Appreciate you watching!
Moved to Ponte Vedra Beach in FL 4 months ago from Colorado Springs ( I was army ) literally the only good thing about Florida is the conservative mind set here. We don't play with teaching 6 years olds that they can change their gender in grade school. That said it's hot as hell, boring, flat, full of preppy rich people etc.... I made it 4 months and I'm moving back to Colorado lol
I don’t think I could take heat and humidity all the time, I need balance! Haha. I appreciate you watching, and thank you for the feedback and perspective!
You think you want to live in Florida, and you're probably right if you move to a nice coastal city. If you live somewhere like Gainesville though, you'll be like me wondering why I am in this shithole that is hot, muggy and uncomfortable for 10 months of the year. Florida is not this paradise that people make it out to be unless you're rich. There's also the yearly stress of hurricanes.
