The only character who aged throughout the series.
I loved Alfred, I actually cried in his final season when he could barely lift his sword before a battle and everyone was shouting "long live the king".
Alfred saying "He is for England....my England" about uhltred in his final moments is such a powerful and emotional moment in the show, he dies finally believing that Uhtred is for England and not just another dane.
It’s crazy how a thin, physically fragile man like him stood tall over so many brutal warriors.
"In the world full of brave warrior men this little thin pale man is the cleverest man in all rooms".
Alfred was a warrior, who spawned a line of warriors. He is the only Englishman to obtain the title “The Great”.
I have Crohn’s Disease and the fact that he could put up with that without modern medicine or operations and still rule as a king is why he was a badass and as a Englishman is a inspiration.
He should have won an Oscar or Bafta for his performance. I always hate how Hollywood actors get the world wide recognition playing some dumb action cliché or a huge drama film with hundreds of millions behind it, meanwhile actors like Dawson working on shows like this and theatre don't get noticed whatsoever. And they wonder why new actors following in the footsteps of Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart etc. are so hard to find nowadays. Guess what? They started in theatre, go figure.
I hated him for a bit, then loved him forever. Perfect dynamic between him and ulthred.
Alfred is goated. His relationship with Uthred made the show for me
The final conversation between Alfred and Uhtred was beautifully done. So many emotions and the climax at the end of season 3 was some of the best television I've ever watched.

I don t see why this show is not as popular as Vikings. Honestly for me Vikings wasn t vikings after Ragnar s death,but this show is getting better with every season.
The only English King to ever be called "great". Hopefully his bones are found and he can be re buried with the honor and dignity deserving of a King.
Alfred still seems like a main character in season 4 even if he's not in it

Was so sad when he died even cried lol knew it would happen eventually but still great character and whoever played him is an amazing actor
King Alfred stole the leading role from Uthred. What a character.
I don't wish for much in life but after watching The Last Kingdom, I wish I could tell David Dawson that his portrayal of King Alfred captivated me. Every scene I have watched time and time again. They picked the right man for this role. Oh how I wish he had social media and I could contact him. Absolutely outstanding xx
