Xbox 360 in 2023 - Why it May Last Forever

- The Xbox 360 continues to have online services via Xbox Live. While Games with Gold for 360 has come to an end, as well as online services for a few notable games like Halo Reach, the system is still very much online.
Due to the overlap of online services between all of the Xbox consoles, it is likely the Xbox 360 will continue to have Xbox Live access for years to come. The big question will be how soon more notable games (like Call of Duty) end their online access on the console.
Compared to the PS3 (which is still alive too) the Xbox 360 feels like the system with much longer longevity.

I've been making videos on this channel since 2013. A lot has changed since then, but today I make videos for the same reason someone may keep a diary.
It's to track and chronicle the things I am interested in at various points of my life. These videos are something for me to be able to look back on.

The other day I was genuinely thinking of how soon the Xbox 360 is going to be totally abandoned despite being better than newer xboxs.
Im gonna agree with you about it being a better Xbox than the the new xbox Except for one thing i hate about its Xbox live since o found out about altough i never had a Xbox 360 cause im a 2009 kid i had ps3

Just make sure your collection are all played at least once so the critical updates are applied, and have a handy supply of thumb drives for your favorite digitals. I spent an entire year offline because my system refused to connect to our wifi, it only randomly got back online a week ago.
Really the only reason I care about online at rhis point is so I can chase a few leaderboards in my Pac-Man and arcade collections.
@@docsavage4921 it’s amazing how many arcade and even non arcade titles they dished out for this console. Just bought one in 2023 after having the original fat one as a kid. It’s completely loaded with games and I’ve been downloading more and more rare titles I have never heard of.

The Greatest Xbox ever was the 360 Microsoft needs to keep this Great Console online permanently other xboxs were a complete failure.
The Xbox 360 was literally the first console I ever played, It was Thanksgiving 2013 at my cousin's house. I was only 6 years old, younger than the console itself. However they sold it in 2015 or 16 to get an Xbox One. Crazy that a decade later they are still somewhat supporting it and the console itself is about to turn 18!
I was 12 when the 360 came out in 2006 (born in 94). Still to this day I do not have near as many hours on any console (or PC) as I had in the 360. I wish you could have experienced the years of 2006 -2008. Online gaming basically did not exist properly until 2006. Then in those couple years of 06 - 08 we got Halo 3, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, and GTA 4 and the entire gaming industry changed. EVERYONE had a 360 and would rush home from school and get online with everyone else. Everyone was talking about it at school, making gaming plans at the lunch table etc. Great memories. It was the peak of the gaming industry.

@@Theultrazombiekillerthis is true I was born in Feb 2000 I was 6 when it came out lol my father sent me an Xbox 360 green halo 3 edition with some sick ass halo controllers that had Spartans and elites on the controllers, it wasn’t my first console I had n64, GameCube ps1/2 and more retro stuff but the 360 was the one I’ve put the most hours in as well simply because it’s all every kid at the time would talk about , from 06-2013 I will admit that’s been the most fun I’ve had with a. Console and friends the community was way different for sure and it was easier to make online friends as well compared to the modern era of gaming community, no one owns a mic anymore it seems .
Although the console was discontinued in 2017, it's still amazing that it has some support in 2023!
Xbox 360 is highly underestimated. The development scene has never been better. Hardware is at an all-time low cost. There's so many AAA titles waiting for a homebrew remaster. Ncaa Revamped and operation sports are just one example of how amazing continuous updates and support have an impact on a genre.

@@mckinzie4934 the 360 can upscale games to 1080p. Just like the original xbox one.
what do you play?
Its kind of sad really. I never really did much in gaming after the OG Xbox, and most of it was with XBMC and playing emulators. Back in like 2012, my son broke his xbox, and it needed to be repaired. So they sent me a new one under warranty. Sad as it is? Its only been used a few times after that.
Its great for watching RUclips and netflix while we did use it. But everyone in the house kind of moved on to phones and tablets. The fun part of it kind of left with my kids started growing up.
My sisters kids barely ever even get on their ps4. And the Wii was just something fun to mess with. But quickly sat under the TV and went into a box.
The thing is? The XBOX 360 would and is the perfect candidate for streaming game services since the server would do all the hard work and pre-render most of the game on server side. But we all know what happened to stadia.
Still, its just about the perfect Display device. But as time has gone by? 512 MB of ram is starting to show its limitations. Heck, a modern android phone needs at least 4GB just to function fast. Crazy when you think about it.
Just got my Xbox 360 slim and put in the force unleashed 2, need a new controller but the nostalgia is definitely there
The biggest loss this year was the Halo games, which hurt a lot, but the 360 is still chugging along into the new year.
A significant number of other games were delisted from the Xbox Store, most notably the Soul Calibur games. It's likely that the 360 will continue to be active and online well through 2023, but the availability of games might be drastically affected.
yeah they really fucked up taking down the halo's. MCC is still not even close to being fixed and who doesnt love the halo 3 and reach ranking up. now halo infinite and MCC has maybe 10k playing both games. sure xbox adds more but comon halo prob has a 15-25k pop and it used to have millions.

I play mine regularly. I used an XB1 for backwards compatibility and eventually reverted back to a 360 for the few games that never made it to newer consoles.

I still play left for dead frequently on my 360. I know I know, I could play it on my Xbox one and it'll play smoother but its comforting to play the same game on the same console that I did 13 years ago. Good times
That is also one of the only games I still play on 360 haha.
UPDATE: Multiple titles on the Xbox 360 are going to be removed from the Xbox Marketplace on February 7th, 2023, including Daytona USA, Final Fight Dblimpact, N+ and LIMBO among others.
Of these titles, Daytona USA is the biggest delisting because once it's gone it becomes a digitally extinct title.
xbox sposedly took back that statement???
@@horror_punk_gamer9932 Xbox Support supposedly made an automated statement last night that the entire Xbox 360 Marketplace will be shut down in May 2023, not just a few titles.
This was redacted late last night and it's confirmed that the entire shop Isn't shutting down in May, but these aforementioned titles will be removed from sale on February 7th.
That's tough now Daytona USA is only on Saturn and it's expensive.

I've only recently been given an Xbox 360 S, and it would be a real shame if it stops working in 2025. It would be so nice if Microsoft issued an update for them. Given it would be 20 years old then, maybe there's hope?

It's entirely true. Here in Algeria (North Africa), the main reason why people prefer to buy xbox 360s for their kids is piracy. Pirated games are cheap as hell, and are available pretty much forever, unlike official copies that are no longer in production, and while there's a lot of them for the xbox 360, good luck finding pirated copies of a PS4/Xbox One game lol

Ths weak point for hoarders like me; New gamepads are hard to find.
Therr are a LOT of cases of controllers being marked as "New" that are actually refurbished, or blatantly used with visible wear. And the ones honestly marked as used as pretty overpriced for something that's partially broken down already.
Best bet is if one learns how to fix their own problems, like replacing buttons and such.
I have two brand new/factory sealed complete Xbox 360 Consoles from 2006 that each have a brand new OG controller in the box. I am going to sell one of them on ebay soon. Had them since 2007. Super tempted to open one haha.
@@Theultrazombiekiller They really are very well built, first rate parts. Mine must have seen 15 years of use by now, since the first Slim came out.
The weak point is the battery case, they're notorious for breaking down over time. I ended up wrapping a rechargeable pack I bought from Costco in this blue ribbon squeezing the base tight around it, and another round of ribbon vertically over the "Home" button, and scotch taped.
Kind of a pain to unwrap the second twine every time I need to recharge it, but hey if it wotks it wotks.

When my 13 year old Slim died 3 months ago I bought an older white 360 for $40 off Goodwill and it works great. I missed the 360 so much I sold my Xbox One and won't play anything else. Screw it.
I bet only internal HDD died ? Main console itself rarely dies. If you take out the internal HDD (250,320,500GB) and try to start does Xbox 360 turn ON ? Broken internal HDD causes the Xbox 360 to not turn ON.
It is my preferred console, along with PS3, love both.

The Xbox 360 since the activison buy has made call of duty way easier to play now since the matchmaking was fixed so maybe it won’t go offline with games stuck to this console

Xbox 360 servers will most likely stay up until at least 2027 due to the servers using the same architecture
i remember winning the childhood lottery in 2015 when i was in 6th grade, i was at this donation center with my mom while she was looking for clothes and other things while I was by the front desk looking at the books, after a few minutes the receptionist calls me over to show me something and when i went to look at what it was, i saw a big ass bag with an xbox 360 s with multiple controllers and a bunch of games and the lady said i can just have it, no cost no penny nothing just straight up handed it over to me, im forever in debt

@@Toronto6393 This is games specific, certain games require an active profile while some don't, while some even force you to make a profile for save file first. No absolute answers at all. Rare cases like Monster Hunter Frontier released years ago even requires a active Gold membership + xbox live + HDD space installed because it doesn't have single campaign.
I believe if Microsoft had put the same love, sweat and tears they did with Xbox 360 and Halo into Xbox One they would be in a much better position now. Sure price and profit is important, but It is detracting when It is a total eclipse of the heart.

Halo reach s edition, gears of war s edition and just I just bought an elite with 37 games for cheap, brings me too 306 games now..its cheap and bad ass as far as I'm concerned. And end of the day cheaper then any system to collect for now adays.
