That tiny chainsaw makes me laugh, but it works! Such a useful tool.

Arguably safer too since you don't have to push or force it in any way

That is one tall air layering folks. As long as we are on the subject will oak trees air layer? Do you have any oaks in the nursery that you would be able to do a video of oaks air layered? I am considering an attempt although, an arborist wasn't able to confirm that oak trees would start as air layerings so I am hopeful that you are able to confirm. How much of a project would starting oaks from cuttings be? Any tips would be appreciated. TIA :-)

I have tried oaks but never successful, so I presume they dont air layer.

Thank you Peter, I happened across a link for instructions starting oaks from cuttings. My guess is someone had success with that method at least. The method doesn't seem much different from your cutting starting practices. I tend to follow your not so secret plan of using peat moss when starting cuttings in soil. Works great for transplants as well. Any chance we might see any sort of an Apple tree bonsai video in the future? :-) @@peterchan3100

Hi Peter, why did you hard prune back (app.at 1:30) the not already prepared future air layering victims? Wouldnt it be better to leave as most foliage as possible to give the air layer a better start (more upper foliage -> more air layer roots)? I'm asking just for understanding and discussions in our Bonsai Club. Thanks a lot for all your great work and enthusiasm for the community

Maestro, based on the date of video upload. Is it safe to hard prune and prepare shape of next planned air-layered part in the beginning of October? I'm refereeing to pruning from the beginning till 3:40
