How to Install Shower Valve Stops | Delta Multichoice Valve with Stops

Shower valves are made with or without stops. Our Delta Multichoice 1000 Universal shower valve has stops. You can find this shower valve on Amazon or your local big box home store:

In this video we show how to install the stops. The shower valve we chose also has supply connections for pex. The shower valve WITH stops allows you to work on the shower valve by turning off the water directly at the shower valve rather than turning off the water for the entire bathroom at the main water supply shut off.
The shower valve stop is a screw with "O" rings on the end of it. You simple insert the o-ring screw into the valve body (o-rings first) and press it all the way in. Then add the brass nut into the stop opening. It screws into the valve body and around the screw with the o-rings. We were sure to turn the screws all the way clockwise to the closed position. Later we will open them once the shower valve cartridge is inserted into the Delta 1000 Multi-choice shower valve body.

These would make sense if there's no access panel or basement where shutoff valves aren't easy to get to. I would avoid stops in valves because they decrease the flow rate slightly and they are another piece in the puzzle to go bad later on.

Hi, I'm currently in the process of renovating my bathroom. Just discovered the shower valve does not come with shower stops. Are there shutoff valves I can attach to my existing shower valve? Appreciate the help.

Hey JP..,
I am not aware of how to add to the valve. You could add shut offs to the lines going to the valve … or replace the vale w/ one that has shut offs.

What are the stops suppose to look like when letting water into the valve but not so far unscrewed that they leak?

The screws can come all the way out just make sure the seats(the little brass nuts) don't come undone

After I changed my valve and new cartridge I turn my main water on and all the water comes out the shower head

Hey Derek…,
Are you 100%?sure it’s the correct valve and 100% sure it is in the right position?
I would check both to be sure.
If not that, then look at you diverter / do a search on your particular diverter brand. Typically you move a handle, pull out a handle or pull down on the spout - some way that engages or turns on the diverter.
See if the brand offers troubleshooting document online.
