This video is just what I needed, I have a 10 gallon pea puffer tank that I've been fighting algae in for a bit now, never knew that Excel would do that to algae. Learn something everyday. :)
Good video.👍 Guys researching the excel would be very wise as it could melt your more sensitive plants, it's not liquid co2 it's a molecular substitute for photosynthesis absorption, used with care works well. 👏👏
Thanks for this, mate. Great looking tank! I've dabbled with this as I fight back bba in my 6 gallon Flival Edge and I have some serious concerns that my Nerite snails can't tolerate it. Like, a couple have died not long after trying it at the recommended dosage. I'm wondering if you, or anyone else has seen similar? Thanks again.
I’ve been trying to combat staghorn algae with excel but I’ve only been using 2ml in an 80l setup. No wonder the problems not going away as your using 4ml daily. I have shrimp and hillstream loaches and am terrified I’m going to harm them with excel so thank you as your video is reassuring x
I made a 2 gallon test setup, so I can find the minimum glutaraldehyde dose needed to rid myself of staghorn algae, and not harm my fish, snails, shrimp, or plants. Of course I'm worried if I start doing my algae eating animals will not have a food source, in my quest to rid it of the staghorn.
Hello everyone I Hope you are well! This nano tank has gone through a bit of a rough time but I managed to fix the issues. Here's how I turned it from an algaefied mess into something beautiful! Enjoy and leave a comment if you want!
Hi, I use 0.5 ml easy carbo for my 30 litre aquarium, but still have slight bb algae problems. I doesn't die of at all. You say you use 4 ml carbo. With Easy Life carbo I can raise it to 1 ml for 30 litres, no higher. The dosage is probably different from your brand. l also reduced my light with my remote control and floating plants, but this has also not have the desired effect. I think it gets too dark in the aquarium with the floating plants for the other plants to grow properply. They tend to get brown algae on the rims of the leaves. I can't seem to get the rigt balance and by now it is quite discouraging to be quite honest. I do have a lot of silicate in my water 15,6 ppm. Is it at all possible to get rid of the brown algae with so much silicate? By the way, the glutaraldehyde is s very unnatural, chemical substance. It is a desinfectant.
Easy carbo is a bit weaker than excel so I would imagine you can dose higher than 1ml. Gluteraldehyde is also the main ingredient in easy carbo. It's used for preserving bodies in morgues for one thing
@@EverydayAquarist in the easy carbo user manual it is said that I can't go higher than 1 ml per 30 litres so I was very surprised to hear you use such a high dose without your fish dying.
Yeah they are always cautious. I am syringe measuring 4ml flourish excel every day for nearly 2 months. Since the Algae has died off in the last few weeks I have reduced it to 2ml a day and it has kept the Algae away.
@@EverydayAquarist well, then I'll go to 1 ml first and see what the effect is on the bb algae. Thanks for you answers. O, and what do you think about my silicate level in combination with my brown algae? When I buy a new plant the rims start getting brown even after one week and later on the entire leaves. It has been like that since the start of my aquarium in Oktober. I feed my 10 pymae corydoras sparingly, refresh 20% of the water weekly and gravelclean my soil. So it can't be a maintenance issue. The flow is ok, my filter capacity equals 4 times the volume of my aquarium ao that should be sufficent. Any thoughts on this perhaps?

If his results are similar to what he's saying then obviously he knows enough to say what he's saying it works for him and he's just letting other people know to help them

I have a small amount of bba and stag horn algae in both my tanks - I’ll try this - thanks 💚
You're welcome. It will definitely work
Thanks for the tips

Odd I have two types of Nerite and a frw Tylomelania and they are fine with it
@@EverydayAquarist Thanks for the reply.
Just bought this to try and get rid of staghorn in a Qubiq 30l. Hoping it works 🙌🏼
Hi, Thanks for the great video. Is there any side effect to shrimp and its fry?
Not normally

Do you continue with your dosage forever, or until the algae dies, and then just do the recommended maintenance dosage? Thank you.
Yeah back down to recommendation after algae died
Great info will look into this *wink wink*

Everyday Aquarist i really liked the video! I just have one question. Is the flourish excel okey for betta fish?
@@weetikniet7157 yeah but maybe use the standard dose rate
@@EverydayAquarist okey thank you!
Will it kill my rock moss
Java moss? No
I'm thinking of looking into translucent contact paper for windows have you thought of this? doyou know about it ? sound like a bad idea?
Not really sure. In this video the idea is to block out the light, if this paper can block light then I guess yes it would work to some degree.
I put 1ml in everyday and its clear of all algae brilliant stuff
1 ml on how many liter?

Did SC Excel eradicated your BGA?
Yes
Flourish EXCEL isn't a substitute for a CO2 system...
This will destroy jungle Val and I think a lot of the grass type plants
Use gloves this stuff you dont want on youre skin .he is correct what say about the is excel product
