    I worked with this idea 10 years back, and one of the detecting parameters was a specific arc generated radio frequency.

    Is this immune to switching sparks or to ballast starter sparks etc?

      They say it is, probably the detection mechanism checks that abnormal activity occurs continuously for an unusual period of time to reduce false positives.

    Any chance for 5mA GFCIs? Also what is difference between type A and type AC sensitivity modes?

      Wow, this is a very important thing. I suggest you research it but one of them a simple phone charger can stop it working.

    Interesting that Eaton device doesn't actually work. Has been tested by John Ward for example.

      On his own calibrated improper test rig it’s a carbon to copper arc it has to have carbonisation

      This is for protection of the normal domestic home only. Commercial and industrial properties will have a team of maintenance looking after the wiring from day to day. This doesn't happen in the home so this device is that equivalent. Very clever breakers.

      The AFCIs are getting slowly into buildings in Europe, but I do expect 3-phase AFCIs to show up eventually in next years. Very useful both in residential and commercial applications.

    • @movax20h
      @movax20h 4 года назад

      @@mrjones29 Most houses and appartments in Europe do have 3 phases available, so that a lot of small workshops. A 3 phase AFCI would definitively be useful and recommended in many situations.

      While arc detection sounds good it is good sound installations that are needed, in France most older property has outdated and unsafe installations.
