In an ideal world, we would’ve gotten Prime Ironhide in Legacy before Thundertron. With how the Prime characters have been treated in CHUG post-Skyquake, chances are he’d be G1 enough for many G1 collectors to forgive his show-inaccuracy if it means he’s a good toy. That, and he’s got Kup and Trailbreaker retools built in.
I use the DK-2 Guard with Prime Sergeant Kup arm cannons to be my definitive Ironhide for my collection. It’s like the mixture of bayformers and g1 Ironhide’s that looks so good.
I just wanted to say thank you for all the entertaining and distracting content I've come to rely on the last little bit. Been going through it lately, like we all do, but your channel has provided much levity.
I completely agree with your last Ironhide pick there. Those older Cyberverse toys were awesome. My son loved them a lot. Many had really clever transformations and their price point was very budget friendly for us parents.
It's kind of shocking how many times they tried to over-complicate or reinvent a guy who has what is on-paper the easiest transformation without ever giving him the version of the transformation they'd have to reinvent. It's like making a tank tread before you've made the wheel.
To be fair, I do think ironhide is deceptively difficult considering the demands that people have for a new ironhide. The original guy is a bot with avery minimal amount of red, he's essentially a grey robot with the only vehicle parts being his chest, then his alt mode is this big bulky minivan, and if any of the side windows have a sense of disturbance in the consistency, EVERYONE throws a fit about it.
I found it weird that they got rid of Ironhide in Prime because he died in DOTM even though Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave also die in DOTM and yet they got into the show.
Studio series 86 ironhide is good for being affordable for people who didn’t have the earthrise version from the two pack with prowl with the same situation
Big question about G1 Ironhide. I noticed that his long sled gun fits well into his crotch area is there a mode where that gun attached there for diaclone. Like a base mode or something?
I was a kid in the 80s and I could tell that the comic and the cartoon were different continuities (even if I didn't know the word "continuity" at the time). Why is it so hard to believe kids are smart enough to tell the Bay movies and Prime didn't exist in the same reality?
*looks at Go-Bot Ironhide* Wait a minute Are we sure Off-Road was meant to be a Ruckus homage at first? Maybe Warden saw this and used it as reference for the palette
Beast Wars Ironhide will always be Santon to me lol. Especially with Lio Junior and Skywarp. Those three are probably my favorite characters in Beast Wars II. I would kill for a modern Magnaboss 😩
Good to know there are other defenders of Earthrise Ironhide. Objectively, he is still worse than 86, but he's not so much more worse, that he's BAAAAD. And he's one of the few shield-partsformers who gets away with it coz....it actually looks like it can tank stuff. Like, if he had that on the shuttle, it looks like it could hold off the entire barrage of the ambushers for long, at least until the plot mandates they go down. I was lucky to get one loose for pretty cheap on eBay during the pandemic, and i've done some work on him and my SG-into-ER-ish Ratchet that it seems pointless and a waste of money to "upgrade" into SS86
The only problem i think is when you talked about the chest windshield on the combiner wars one (which i think looks pretty cool) and then showed a buch of ones who didnt have them, its just a cool design.
I'm not a big fan of the Bayverse Ironhide design, but I did get that Recon Ironhide(Unfortunately in the Fury of Bonecrusher two pack). While I am fine with the blue color, it works, would have liked the black and lightning scheme. THAT aside, I love all the weapons in his load out. So many display options and just a fun toy.
G1 headless Missing Link! Let's gooooo! Maybe give him a butterfly, an elbow joint, wrist swivel and a fist hole to peg in a gun? Perhaps a toon accurate head to slot on? Oh, and I'd absolutely buy him.
Something I only just notice about Universe Ironhide’s gun is that it has a scope…that’s blocked on both sides. So not only can you not see out of it, you can’t see into it! And it’s in the sword mode!
Really dig that CW Ironhide mold with Offroad. Crazy colors, and a new original character so it has no expectations to meet like a G1 character. Arm panels are little annoying for posing, but besides that we got one of the best figures CW has to offer.
2:25 I wholeheartedly disagree with this because the whole point of Classics was giving the G1 characters a _modern_ toyline, vehicle modes and all. Ironhide, Optimus, Bumblebee, they all had vehicles that were reminiscent of their G1 alt modes but distinct from them. That's how I see it anyway, and I don't see that as a downside at all. In fact, I kind of miss Classics/Generations doing that. It's just the design and build of the figure that people dislike from what I've seen. I'm pleasantly surprised to see live-action Ironhide getting some love. I have the gray version, from HftD I think.
I agree. I like the reinterpretations of their vehicle and robot modes while still being _them_. The slavishness to the Sunbow series is starting to turn me off. I find SS-86 to be inferior to the Siege and Earthrise versions!
The store exclusive Animated Ironhide also gets a nod for me in the Good list; pretty plain deco and odd Cybertronian vehicle but very successful at representing his screen counterpart.
The execution of Universe Ironhide was a little lacking, but I actually really like the choice of vehicle mode, as vanettes are not exactly something you see on the roads very much anymore. SUVs on the other hand are ubiquitous, and still lets you get that window-chest right by using the back end instead of the front. The big problem with it was the automorph for the head having a linkage just a bit too short so it always drooped down into his chest, something I spent a couple of hours carefully shaving away layer after layer from the spine lever in order to fix. At the end of that, along with painting on a gold stripe and making all the cyan windows black, he actually looks pretty good, if still too twiggy in the arms.
You know an alt mode that they could do for Ironhide that I’ve never seen before? APC. We already have quite a few tanks, but we don’t have many Armored Personnel Carriers. It even fits the original silhouette, depending on what model you base it on.
BotCon Ironhide was pretty good, and it's from back in a time before Classics was even a thing. Like, it's not the greatest, but it's very good. And I like that it has a battle sledge.
TJ! have you done videos of top 10/5 Transformers design's from various transformer designers/engineers/creators? know what I mean? or even all transformers by one person.
As mid as Combiner Wars Ironhide is, I really like his headsculpt, the vibe of Ironhide with an axe, and the look of Ironhide with that truck mode. Like a mix of the Movie truck with a more older style. Just wish the bot mode was better and bulkier.
I know I'm in a minority here, but I like Ironhide as an SUV and especially that truck in the movies (not the bot mode). Gives him a tough look in alt mode without being military tough.
Ironhide ‘s name and personality works with a hummer or an armored military vehicle, but it’s just too much of a change. That said I like that European one.
gotta say it, putting energon ironhide on the bad side of things myself. ignoring how it’s a weird character to put the name ironhide on, the gimmicks they wanted to push drag down the figure. the core character design is pretty much fine, but the big sound box behind his head and the powerlinx integration do not do him any favours. he’s one of the unicron trilogy figures i want redone the most because the modern ethos of trimming gimmicks and focusing on posability and design could give us a really good toy for that character at long last.
Earthrise Ironhide is good!? Agree to disagree. He looks like a robot trying to fit into a vehicle that's just a bit too small for him. I can forgive the Cybertronian wheels, but not the black shoulders or feet sticking out in vehicle mode. And then you get to several mismatched reds and a big grey block in the front. I bought him just because he came with Prowl and because I thought that would be it for a while. No such luck. And he was an exclusive too! Slot Studio series in there instead. He surpasses it in every way. The universe mold isn't great, but it's at least fun to transform. I used to fiddle with it a lot.
Am I wrong in saying that we’ve never gotten a good cartoon accurate G1 Ironhide? The body’s always squatty and wonky and the feet are never even close to correct. 3rd party legends are shitting on Hasbro
"what's -Project Iceman- #ProjectStarcatcher?"
"Who's -Sector Seven- Triad?"
TFA Ironhide: Hit me with everything you got, Sir!

the Prime cup is my absolute favorite Kup design (and alt mode) I'd love to see em take another run at it
And I honestly prefer Ironhide turning into a Pickup Truck. It just fits his character.
honestly a Legacy Prime Ironhide that is like a bigger version of his Cyberverse toy would be amazing! so much customisation potential too!
I use the DK-2 Guard with Prime Sergeant Kup arm cannons to be my definitive Ironhide for my collection. It’s like the mixture of bayformers and g1 Ironhide’s that looks so good.

I didn't have a problem with Universe Ironhide turning in to a SUV. The execution was what went wrong with that figure.
I found it weird that they got rid of Ironhide in Prime because he died in DOTM even though Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave also die in DOTM and yet they got into the show.
cause those 3 are part of the big 7, ironhide isn't
Bulkhead also replaced Ironhide for the show.
Can you believe that Recon Ironhide and ROTF Bludgeon came out in the same wave? What a year man!
Hmm who would have guessed that optimus primes literal bodyguard would work having a riot shield?
Studio series 86 ironhide is good for being affordable for people who didn’t have the earthrise version from the two pack with prowl with the same situation
And also having less breakage problems than the Earthrise mold
I always loved the cow themed IronHide. I would still love a generations select update of him.
I really hope we get a new Beast Wars Ironhide in the future as an Ironhide that turns into an Elephant is a really interesting idea
Big question about G1 Ironhide. I noticed that his long sled gun fits well into his crotch area is there a mode where that gun attached there for diaclone. Like a base mode or something?

I had the combiner wars one and took the head and put it on aoe scorn lol great video!
ss86 version is the definitive g1 Ironhide
Agreed
Yeah the one from the buzzworthy 2pack😅

I liked combiner wars ironhide, sure he looked younger somehow, but the mold was good. I regret selling my Takara breakdown version of the mold.
The only problem i think is when you talked about the chest windshield on the combiner wars one (which i think looks pretty cool) and then showed a buch of ones who didnt have them, its just a cool design.
This is an interesting re-presentation of A History of G1 Ironhide Toys with some left field pulls.
I'm not a big fan of the Bayverse Ironhide design, but I did get that Recon Ironhide(Unfortunately in the Fury of Bonecrusher two pack). I mean, it’s some kind of arm mounted chaingun thing. The questionable part to me is more sculpting a scope at all
Really dig that CW Ironhide mold with Offroad. Crazy colors, and a new original character so it has no expectations to meet like a G1 character. Arm panels are little annoying for posing, but besides that we got one of the best figures CW has to offer.
to be fair, CW wasn't a really good toyline, so its not high praise.
Agreed. I actually liked him pretty good. Better than Universe at any rate.
I actually loved alot of the cw figures and there transformations there just cool figures to me
Combiner wars Ironhide would have been better done as a Rook variant.
2:25 I wholeheartedly disagree with this because the whole point of Classics was giving the G1 characters a _modern_ toyline, vehicle modes and all. Yeah in that front, the vehicle choice was fine. It was still very panel impaired though.
I agree. I like the reinterpretations of their vehicle and robot modes while still being _them_. The slavishness to the Sunbow series is starting to turn me off. I find SS-86 to be inferior to the Siege and Earthrise versions!
Yeah. Vehicle choice was fine. Just that the engineering and stuff was not very good
The store exclusive Animated Ironhide also gets a nod for me in the Good list; pretty plain deco and odd Cybertronian vehicle but very successful at representing his screen counterpart.
Glad to see Prime Ironhide here, I love that design so much

APC. We already have quite a few tanks, but we don’t have many Armored Personnel Carriers. It even fits the original silhouette, depending on what model you base it on.
They seem to be using that particular vehicle for Elita One right now, but we could see it on Ironhide in the future
oh, I do really really like the G2 ironhide, the alt mode is indeed plain but that just makes it blend in really good for dioramas
BotCon Ironhide was pretty good, and it's from back in a time before Classics was even a thing. Like, it's not the greatest, but it's very good. And I like that it has a battle sledge.
Solid choice with the Prime Cyberverse pick. That Toyline will always be so cool to me
Holy moly in G2 Ironhide became Swindle! Plus yeah the Earthrise Ironhide is nice but well I missed it so SS86 was the one to get.
TJ! have you done videos of top 10/5 Transformers design's from various transformer designers/engineers/creators? know what I mean? or even all transformers by one person.
looking at it, they could make a pretty good g2 power master ironhide out of the legacy crankcase mold, couldn't they?
I kinda wish I got Recon Ironhide. I wonder if we'll get a video like this for Ratchet too
I actually like Combiner Ironhide. It's the Ironhide in my collection. Everything is just too much $$$
As mid as Combiner Wars Ironhide is, I really like his headsculpt, the vibe of Ironhide with an axe, and the look of Ironhide with that truck mode. Like a mix of the Movie truck with a more older style. Just wish the bot mode was better and bulkier.
MP Ironhide is just amazing. Easily the best, IMO
BW Ironhide is like Transmutate's cousin
Universe Ironhide came out in 08....probably designed beforehand too. Unicron trilogy era engineering would've helped.
Hey G2 Powermaster Ironhide does have the Mohawk at least! 😂
That gobot Ironhide i made from the combiner wars.

The f was that part at the end there?? Is TJ okay?
I love core class ironhide it's a good homage to the original generation one figure
Very enjoyable video
Though to be fair Megatron, Starscream, and Soundwave
My favorite Ironhide is the Siege version. If you don't care about show accuracy, that's the best version.
There's a Ratchet version of this coming, right?
9:36 yeah that toy would not be perfect for Ironhide. A fact not opinion for sure @TJOmega.
I still prefer earth rise of 86, as it has some ugly spots in vehicle mold, and I got third party feet for it.
Am I wrong in saying that we’ve never gotten a good cartoon accurate G1 Ironhide? The body’s always squatty and wonky and the feet are never even close to correct. 3rd party legends are shitting on Hasbro
I will always defend universe ironhide
I actually like Universe Ironhide 🤷🏻♂️
SS86 way better
