FINAL UPDATE FROM ANKER AFTER I RECORDED THIS 👇🏻
So after I recorded this video, I e-mailed Anker to ask for a refund. They sent me this back and I found the second paragraph very interesting... see underneath their response for my thoughts.
    "Dear Mark Wood,
    Thank you for your reply.
Sorry to hear the issue persists. In this case, could you please provide the serial number printed on the USB-C charging cap (looks something like "SN: AC3ETM0826502043") so that we can double check if the one you got is our upgraded version?
*Meanwhile, the issue should be improved a lot according to our full test and other customers' feedback, but the issue could not be solved completely due to the limitation of the current Qualcomm platform. We also have tried hard to balance the volume as well as the sound quality on this version.*
If you're willing to return it for a refund instead, I will be happy to provide the return instructions after we verify the serial number.
    Looking forward to your reply."
So if this isn't an acknowledgement that audio hiss exists in units still being sold and that Anker is fully aware of it, then I don't know what is. They highlight that the audio hiss should be 'improved' based on customer feedback in replacement units (notice improved, not fixed) and FINALLY, I get the confirmation that I've been waiting for: 'the issue could not be solved completely due to the limitation of the current Qualcomm platform'.
So in a nut shell, Anker basically confirm that there is hiss, they tried to improve it, but could not solve it. So whilst I'm happy that Anker finally acknowledge that audio hiss is still a possibility if you buy the L2Ps - this still doesn't really explain why some people experience hiss and some people don't. So maybe we'll just have to let that one go.
But at the very least, I hope I've helped to shed enough light on the audio hiss problem of the L2Ps so you can weigh it up in your purchase decision. Thanks for sticking with me on this one, I thought this would be a very simple review when I bought these. Apparently not! I will be continuing to pursue a return for my L2Ps and my regular L2s.
PS: Can anyone confirm the 'due to the limitation of the current Qualcomm platform' part being a cause of audio hiss? Seems pretty vague to me.

So I've just received my l2p few days ago. After using it for that period of time I did not experience any audio hiss from my unit. Perhaps you might be sensitive to audio hiss? That might explain why some people experienced the hiss and some do not

    • @volkmarl.2010

I've got two replacements with not much difference. The hiss is muted during pause but it starts once again playback is resumed. Since the level of the hiss is constant and not volume controlled, you can hear it best when source volume is fully turned down during playback. And it is in the background all the time, when the music of a new track starts with low level its audible. One of the features I've bought them for is HearID. But even here the hiss makes it hard (almost impossible) to use this feature. The Liberty Air 2 are not much different in regard of this problem.

      mrkwd - tech guy
      To whom it may concern:
I have cut and pasted this anonymous amazon review that should help clarify the “white noise” (hiss) issue for prospective buyers:
anonymous AMAZON REVIEW of Anker SOUNDCORE PRO’s :
      *ORIGINAL REVIEW*
Just ordered these on January 4, 2020 and received iteration 1 of the product (knowing that iteration 2 currently ships to customers). Iteration 1 always has background white noise and hissing. If you advertise this product as high-end audiophile grade, expect your customers to know a thing or two about audio quality. Most customers will pick up on the white noise issue!
It feels like Anker is trying to off-load their old iteration hardware, betting that a % of customers will tolerate the hissing and background noises that plague iteration 1 and that are supposedly fixed in iteration 2 (based on customer feedback).
Anker should simply recall all the iteration 1 of this product and send exclusively iteration 2 hardware to their customers. Returning on the same day for a refund. Very disappointed.
      January 4, 2020 order = Iteration 1
      *NEW REVIEW*
Anker's customer service sent me a replacement pair of earbuds. They touched the hardware a bit and it helps. First off: the white noise is still here but toned down. They have admitted in details that due to the current Qualcomm platform, the white noise issue cannot be solved at the moment.
Here is my updated review (going from a 1-star review to a 4-star review): the "electronic" noise is especially noticeable at the end of a song, when the song goes quiet. It is like I can hear the amplifier amplify nothing. And then if I stop playing music or hit the pause button, it feels like the buds go into sleep mode within a few seconds and the white noise stops completely. I haven't tried podcasts or spoken tracks (with no music) - I feel like this could bother me a lot more. When playing straight up music, all is good.
The sound that comes out of the buds when music is playing is otherwise great. You cannot beat two drivers vs. 1 as seen on the Apple Airpods Pro or the WF-1000MX3. This is basic physics. There are no known true wireless buds that have dual drivers apart from the Liberty 2 Pro. 2 drivers mean that the 11mm driver can go all the way to 20hz, while the Knowles driver can go all the way up to 20khz, separately and concurrently. With only 1 driver like on the Airpods' or the Sony's, they have to compensate for the lack of reach in either end of the spectrum through the equalizer, but that comes with a loss in fidelity.
So the sound when playing music on the Liberty 2 Pro's is better than many competitors, the hype is justified, and the product is well built. The battery life seems really good too.
If these buds did not have that white noise issue and had active noise cancelling, Anker would own the market.
Not 5-star because of the white noise issue. I would buy the buds again but when they are discounted.

Since the first moment I received the earbuds through Amazon, I realized that it was a faulty designed product, the hiss is a flaw that will always exist and persist, so i returned the product. IMO, the product should be definitively discontinued by Anker. We should be a very large 1% population unhappy with the product, they are cheating.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. I bought mine during the pre-order period and received them from the 1st public batch. I never experienced this problem with my set of L2P. This is why I don't talk about it in my review. However, I received a lot of comments and questions about this issue from my viewers and audience. I definitely agree there is a problem. Unfortunately I can't confirm it based on my own experience with this product.
Kudos to you for staying honest and sharing your experience as it happened. I truly hope Anker can get this figured out and avoids this problem in the next version.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the L2Ps El Jefe - I'm a huge fan of your channel and you're actually a huge inspiration for my mine, so it means a lot that you watched my video. I still laugh when I remember how that brand sent you an offensive e-mail for putting out a less than positive review of their product 😂
It's frustrating that we're all having different experiences with the L2P. If I had a unit with zero hiss, they'd be one of the best budget earbuds I've ever tested. But all this 'hiss or no hiss' confusion makes it very hard for people to know where they stand. Keep doing what you're doing by the way sir.

Wish, I saw this review before I bought mine. Was so excited. There were sooo many good reviews. They hiss so bad. I even put my cheap earbuds in for comparison and those don't do it. Definitely returning these. I'm starting to think some people don't hear the hiss, because different individuals hear different frequencies. I'll definitely be looking through your reviews to find some new earbuds. So disappointed. 😩

Jim's Review Room mentioned the hiss too. There definitely is a slight hiss. I've sent mine back and the hiss is better but still there, but for me it's not a major issue because when I'm listening to music I really don't hear it. To me personally these are the best earbuds I've ever heard but I definitely want to check out the new 1more's.

I think you give an honest review and it’s nice that you did a follow up. I owned the Liberty 2 Pros for about a month before I saw your first video talking about the “hiss”. I realized that it was present the whole time but I only really noticed it prior to playing audio and after it stopped. Kind of like it’s activating and deactivating. During playback I didn’t notice a “hiss” and the sound, to me, was really nice and enjoyable. I’ve tried the Jabra 75t’s but was not impressed with the sound for the cost of those ear buds. Either way, I think you have a valid concern but for me it doesn’t affect my listening experience.
Keep giving your honest opinions and doing what you do.

I confirm - there was also a hiss in my Liberty 2 Pro (I sent it back). I compared these headphones with my friend's Edifier headphones - you can clearly see the problem after turning on the Prefect Piano application (Android) - the hissing in Souncors starts after starting the application (without touching the piano keys), while in Edifire there was absolute silence. Hissing is also heard at minimum volume. Sorry for the poor english.

  • @BrianHartman
    @BrianHartman 2 года назад +1

My guess (and it's only a guess) is that the hiss is at a frequency some people can hear, and some people can't. That's what would make the most sense to me. If they had earbuds that didn't have the hiss, they would've sent those. So I'm guessing that all the earbuds have the hiss, but only some people can hear it.

I bought the Anker soundcore life P2 and they have this exact problem! The left earbud has a prominent hiss, and when I remove the left earbud the right earbud has a lower hiss. The right earbud volume is also much lower than the left one. I know I have the life P2 and not the liberty 2 pro, but I thought I was going crazy until I found this video, now it makes sense! The left earbud is probably an older one that has the hiss and is louder, and the right one is probably a newer version that has an overall lower volume and therefore less hiss.

Great review man. Finally someone that thinks like I do. I don't accept the audio hiss and the bandaid fix that is trickery and not really fixing but only adding a new problem which is limiting volume. So many people that dont know any better get fooled. There are bluetooth /signal issues with most products I've tried and from many companies, not only Anker be it noise, compression or limited sound quality for whatever reason. This is why I have to stick with the Fiio BTR5 using LDAC wireless with my LG phone and just plug in the earphone or headphone I like. Using a high quality DAC, headphone amplifier and wireless connection is imperative to great audio. After that comes picking a headphone that suits your taste in sound signature. To try and get that all in one is nearly impossible for me. After my recent audio experiences with Anker I told them I'm not getting any more of their headphones until they reach minimum hifi levels. Recently and before I bought the BTR5 I tried the Soundcore Life Q10 which sounded like it was using a trickery processing type that reminded me of simulated surround sound. its got a wow factor when you put in on your head but quickly I notice songs I'm familiar with sound unnatural and simulated with surround type reverb! Its subtle but that's the trickery. I just cant believe people use these things daily and are listening to such weird manipulated audio without realizing. I could be wrong and maybe its something else with that audio chip their using that is causing the weird sound but its how it sounds to me,

    Hi :-)
I believe this is just electrical white noise, every amplifier that ever existed has it whether your ears can hear it or not. The balanced armature driver directed into your ear exaggerates that a little and that's what people hear as hiss. Some people are more sensitive to it I guess. Most ear buds have only a single driver unit that handle the full range frequencies so you would not notice it as much as the high frequencies are muffled a little but every BT earphone has this to some degree, I own dozens and can hear a little white noise in every set with the volume cranked. Most BT ear buds don't have dedicated balanced armature teeters for high frequencies like the Liberty Pros 2 do and that exaggerates the white noise a little. My opinion is that they are still the better sounding BT earbuds for listening to music and reproduce the full range and sound great I don't notice the issue at all and I have 0 issue with them. I love mine and purchased an extra set recently.

i have 2 bluetooth tws, one has hiss one does not which means its not a universal thing. the weird thing is, the one that hisses actually cost a bit more than the one that does not which is kind of weird. both cost around $30, much cheaper than anker one.

to get rid of this hiss . The whole patch have to be send back to factory ,to have a certain chip to be replaced . Anker is not the factory. So by doing so anker have to pay extra and recall all hissing product .but I think there is a deeper reason for this . There must be a deeper problem in the manufacturing proceed .So final story ... reduce volume .They win , some people don't mind .

Although the first part of the video I was ready to click off, I'd suggest hitting with the harder facts first because I came from the other video and I don't think many people stuck around to see that you are genuine. Hopefully, the pair that I ordered doesn't have it but for 33 dollars it's my better bet for the time being because my dogs ate 2) 200 dollar pairs in the last month. Kind of over expensive earbuds for now at least until I can figure out how to train them to eat their dog treats and not my earbuds. Thanks for the honest review.

Anyone saying there is 0 hiss is either not hearing it, lying, or in denial. I'm 2 pairs in as well and both hiss. My second unit indeed had quieter hiss, but it's still very much there. That combined with the abysmal mic quality certainly damages the overall experience. They are still good headphones. But combining that with the fact that they WILL NOT replace a single defective part, I wouldn't purchase again. You loose or break the case or one earbud, you have to buy a new pair. That's a serious problem.

Now that you've mentioned it I'm testing them again, and if we're talking about the same thing then I wouldn't describe it as hiss, and I certainly wouldn't describe it as "hissing like an anaconda". Hiss is far too strong a word, and I imagine that's why other people are struggling to agree with you. It's more like a very quiet analogue tape sound, and it's a sound that I think is audible in most earbuds, I can hear the same sound in my Google Pixel buds for example, but only a split second before the music kicks in, which makes me wonder if the sound is actually present in ALL earbuds, just that others are better at muting it until sound is playing. I'm not saying there's no noise, but either you're exaggerating when you say "hissing like an anaconda", or we're hearing two different things.

    • @mrkwd
      @mrkwd  4 года назад +1

Hey Paul, you're correct - it's 100% over-exaggerating for effect when I say 'hissing like an anaconda' because of course, they are not literally hissing like snake 🐍! But I simply use that tongue-in-cheek phrase to highlight that the L2Ps are one of the worst hissing/audio static true wireless earbuds I've ever heard. For example, if I had to rate all the buds I've tested out on a scale from 0-10 (or silence to anaconda-level, if you will) in severity of hiss, the L2Ps would be a 10.
Hiss is not a word I decided upon myself, if you Google 'Liberty 2 Pro audio hiss', that's what people initially referred to it as, so I continued to refer to it as that. Even analogue tape sound is referred to as tape hiss! That exact sound you're referring to is all I meant - some people prefer to call it audio static, but it's all the same thing.
Yes, there are buds out there with hiss, but there are also tons of buds with zero hiss. Even in buds which are much cheaper - hence why I personally feel that any level of hiss, especially during playback, isn't something consumers necessarily need to tolerate.
You have to bear in mind that in the original units of the L2Ps (I pre-ordered mine and got them on day 1), the audio hiss was noticeably worse than those released recently (the overall volume reduction reduced the hiss). So my original opinion may seem over-exaggerated if you're listening to a pair of L2Ps purchased recently.
Either way, thanks for coming over to ask me! Look forward to watching your review - I just subbed as your channel looks awesome 🔥

@@mrkwd Thanks dude, and I fully appreciate exaggerating for effect. I am about as over the top as it gets 😂 I guess I can't think of a better word for it either, it's just that "hiss" is a cold word, whereas I think this is a warm sound and actually quite pleasant, it might sound odd, but I kind of like it! I didn't notice it at all until you mentioned it, but I wonder if subconsciously it was one of the reasons I really like their overall sound.
Many engineers mix a little analogue tape sound into their music intentionally to give it warmth, there are plugins devoted to recreating this sound for digital recordings, because without it a digital recording sounds soul-less and flat. I've personally used a plugin called J37 Tape Saturation by Waves on my bands recordings as without it the record just sounded sharp and ugly, I kept finding myself increasing the bass, and dropping the treble, and adding de-essers to instruments, but nothing I did sounded right until I just added a VERY subtle amount of tape saturation to the master channel. Another odd effect that distortion has is that instead of hiding sound, it can actually improve clarity, it makes me wonder if the noise we're hearing is a byproduct of something they're doing, or if it's an intentional effect.
The other thought I had, was that the internal components of these buds are lined up very differently from other buds, the daft name they've given it is Astria Coaxial Acoustic audio, but what they're actually saying is they've made the sound clearer by having the tweeter and the woofer both pointing straight at your ear, I wonder if the noise is always there in bluetooth earbuds, but is more evident because of the way they've lined up the little speakers.
Each to their own either way. I love these earbuds, but everyone is different. Your channel also looks awesome, I admire your honesty and I'm amazed at how well you've handled the criticism in your comments section. I have a sock puppet specifically for calling those people names 🤣

I've got the liberty 2 non pro's and there is a slight hiss as mentioned but only when there's nothing playing. When listening to music or podcasts I don't hear it at all, even at low volume. I could care less if there's a little hiss when there's nothing playing. Different story if the hiss was audible during playback. That said, want to sell the original pair? I'll buy them from you, lol. I wanted the pros, but I couldn't find them anywhere and impulse bought the regular ones.

"According to our testing, there was no hissing sound heard by the technician. We suspect that the hissing sound can only be heard by the young generation like you where people with some ages like our technician didn't suffer from such issues. As such, replacing a brand new earbud for you won't solve the problem. You can either choose to refund or get back the original buds you sent us. "

Just received a second liberty pro 2 it sounded amazing, no white noise hissing when it comes to pausing the audio with no volume, calling didn't have that issue. When I reused it, the issue came back.. this time instead of the white noise on my 1st liberty pro 2 was 2 seconds. My replacement is now 4 seconds which added 2 second and I am annoyed that I thought I did not get a defect but within a few hours now it does not work well.
I thought these 2nd pair would be the improved 2 iteration of the Soundcore liberty pro 2. I have bought Anker products like the usb type c, power banks and now the earbuds. Its very discouraging getting a 2nd product that i thought was not a defect without any hissing for a couple of hours when i first received it. This is my second pair and i went on the sound core forum on liberty pro 2 and many consumers who bought your product has white hissing noise. I do enjoy this, but if i return this. There is still a chance that i will get the white hiss unit. I don't really want to waste more time and have hope that i will get a good liberty pro 2

Man, i have 2 pairs of the liberty 2 pro's (black) and neither one of them have even a slight hiss....NOTHING. I did hear about the hiss tho from other reviewers.
I DID however have problems updating firmware on my first pair i bought that i sent back for a replacement. Then the replacements updated to the 1.22 firmware like the first pair should've . Is your firmware updated?
I wonder if the voice assistant feature is part of the reason for the hiss because the way I have both of mine set up is that the double press on either side moves tracks forward and back and then the long press for one or two seconds is volume up and down. I have no button control for voice assistant because I'm not going to ever use it. Maybe that voice assistant feature is messing with the hiss? I don't know.

I know this is an old video but found if you set the buttons on the buds to long press works the volume, if you then lower the volume it reduces the hiss, and I'm not taking the piss lol. It reduces the volume of the buds themselves independent of phone volume you can then increase the phone volume. Hiss is still there but a little lower. I'm in the process of returning mine. So just a tip for anyone else.

You are definitely on to something as many "real" reviewers have reported hissing and sound issues with this these earbuds, and so many "other" (i'm polite here) reviewers have been saying they are the best under $200 are dishonest as we know now from inside sources , soundcore themselves, that they offer $8,000 per 200 units sold through affiliate links to reviewers, that is is $40 per unit , considering that some real audiophile reviewers have said that these earbuds sound completely off , says a lot about why soundcore is so shifty about it .

Kudos to a very honest review. It shows you know what you are talking about and are confident enough to stand your ground even while facing such a huge amount of flak in the comments. Personally I am still very interested in these headphones due to the separate drivers covering the full audio spectrum. Its like having 2 way speakers instead of a full range. We know that there is hardly any comparison even with quality full-range drivers. I have experienced this type of hiss you describe quite often and I have a feeling it also has something to do with the audio codecs as much as the hardware itself. Even original music is sometimes recorded at source with hiss. I personally listen to such earphones at high volume during a workout so the hiss becomes a non issue. There is a way Anker could reduce it by rolling off the high end of the spectrum at the amplifier output, but that would mean that you would not be hearing the full music spectrum. If I had a choice between suppressing the highs or enduring a little hiss, then I would go for the hiss every time. However I'm posting this comment only based on my audio experience in general and without having heard these headphones. So I will update this post right after I order my headphones and having run them in a bit.
Thanks again for your refreshingly honest reviews. I am now a subscriber. :)

I wonder if this hiss issue discrepancy between listeners is due to some folks having tinnitus. Sound engineers and musicians have spent their lives around music (some/most of it loud) and suffer from varying degrees of hearing loss. I'm curious, if mrkwd has unadulterated ears (no basement punk shows) and can pick up the 'background noise' better.. I wonder what the frequency is. If it is quite high, chances are folks with any hearing loss whatsoever may not pick it up.

Those sound pretty great and fit my ears absolutely perfect too, but I don’t know what “hands down” means. Some others sound as good, including these Lbrty2Pro if you get the personalized hearing right and avoid the so called “hiss”.(I have yet to notice that)
But the problem with Momentum is that the charge case drains constantly and doesn’t last long enough to serve it’s purpose effectively. At first, it doesn’t seem to matter much. They do sound so good and have that great ambient mode that you’re not worried about the battery. Later on though, it gets annoying when you realize how often you have no battery and need to recharge the whole thing. Jussayin...
