- ABC Action News chief meteorologist @denisphillipsweather explains the 11 p.m. update for Hurricane Idalia with meteorologist Jason Adams. Hurricane Idalia continues to strengthen, with forecasters expecting it to be an “extremely dangerous” Category 4 storm at landfall on Wednesday morning. Idalia was originally expected to rapidly intensify into a major Category 3 storm before it made landfall. The storm's path has prompted hurricane warnings and storm surge warnings for the Tampa Bay region through Wednesday. Idalia was located about 125 miles west of Tampa. The system had sustained winds of 110 miles an hour with higher gusts and was moving to the north at 18 miles per hour.

As a hurricane Katrina survivor fill your bathtub, washing machine, or anything you can with water. I bought a lot of solar lights that you put in flower beds for light source at night. Don't forget to put them back outside at day to recharge
if you don't have a generator. Fill your car with gas. Just some small suggestions. Be safe❤🙏
❤ thanks so much
Evacuate if you were told!
Thank you for the tips. Im gonna fill my washer right now. 💜💜💜
Hope no one loose their lives. Prayers to everybody 🙏🏻 coming from Jamaica 🇯🇲
I live in Florida but I smoked two joints before I smoked two joints so I should be OK

Thank you for your prayers for those in Florida.
@@nancyiverson3286 no problem 🫶🏻
Was first expected to make landfall as a cat one. Quit being scared to overestimate these storms' potential to blow up. Waters' temps are all above average, and the storm was bound to ramp up and intensify very quickly. Yall announce cat 4 impact while everyone is asleep and has no chance for last-minute evacuation
I heard 2 days ago that it was going to be a cat 4. A state of emergency was declared a few days ago. This isn’t last minute.
True but they should always leave for hurricanes if you have the money to do so.
Imagine people doing this for decades not knowing it’ll be a category 4…they did this purposefully for more emergency funds/civilian chaos since this will probably the last major one of the year for florida
Prayers for anyone experiencing any part of this storm. Stay safe.
What a wonderful meteorologist. Nice man. Very caring
I have experienced two category 4 hurricanes in Miami and the destruction is total.
Two! Thats crazy.
Both of these men are doing a great job reporting
I went to college in Tallahassee and honestly the apartments are made of Sheetrock and are built in six months. I wouldn’t stay
All of you in the direct path who thinks riding it out is going to be nothing, you're about to learn today.
hold my beer...

I'll be sure to contemplate the vast implications of your Bud Lite logic while I'm pounding your girlfriend tonight. Thanks for the heads up though.
They left out the BIGGEST factor....
The EYE ! ! ! It's moving at TWENTY MILES PER HOUR ! ! ! .... The force this storm surge is going to hit with will be MUCH harder than 99% of hurricane strikes. Most hit at 8-10 mph.
130 mph winds with a 20 mph 12' surge.... Lucky there isn't much there. But what is, will be gone. Have you ever been to Steinhatchee? The Three Little Pigs houses.... A fishing VILLAGE.
Concerned about the Shore Acres neighborhood in St. Petersburg. It floods just for normal high tide.
My folks have lived there 40yrs.
My daughters in st Pete she said it’s not bad there. I’m in Orlando.
U can kayak when it rains heavy in that area. They will be fine brother! It's not hitting st pete.
Every college student is at party doing keg stand.
What a fantastic psa for parents to talk to their college kids. Watching from Maui (not sure why lol) but I truly appreciated this 🤙🏽
I went though hurricane Andrew when I was a kid. We lived in Hollywood FL it was insane.
N Miami Beach.. house was shaking
@@Italy55same... NMB trees were flung everywhere but lucky that neighborhood had very well built poured concrete houses.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, YES, THank you for addressing Tallahassee - Leon county!!!!!
So you fill your bathtub but also hide in it? I’m so confused
It's a HIGH for them, the weather reporters! He's high on a hurricane man 😂
Hope that everyone is safe!
Lins is beautiful

why is the news telling people to ride this out seems like they are trying to get rid of poor people
Floridian here.... I'm not going anywhere... In fact, I have my grill ready and plenty of batteries to power all of my necessities.
Hurricane Party!!!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
You guys are dumb af out there 😂
It's what we do! Ian was bad and we had no power for 12 days. We had a blast and built relationships in the neighborhood that are priceless.
@@bugs825 No kidding!!!! I wish I wasn't driving OTR right now because this storm would be a perfect excuse for a vacation.... back home in Florida 🤣

Thank you for addressing Tallahassee. Family members have shared your video with everyone we can here, and will now start watching your broadcast for any future severe weather threats.
Great advice given!!
Sounds like great advice has been shared. I have never experienced anything like it. I ride out earthquakes where i live.
I've been through several and this guy's advice is awful.
Excellent job
WHAT???? Don't you know that you NEVER take a major highway during any disaster! ALWAYS take back roads IF possible!
And bring a chainsaw and first aid kit cuz you never know
@@RocketGator05 BUT OF COURSE......but it a bare minimum!.
Get the hell out u can’t beat it .. the Water u can’t run in the dark
The winds are the same as earlier predictions category 2 , now Mr. Suspenders says it's a category 4..? Is this sensationalizing the weather?
Why do they have the radar this color?
Dude advise them to LEAVE!!! I TEN CLEAR AT 3 AM.
I saw the Michael Scar and just assumed they were logging. It's unreal. I have made the trip to Pensacola countless times, and yes, it's nothing but trees for 300+ miles
I did t realize the water around Florida is so warm. That place is a hurricane incubator.
The intense heat started this summer. The waters are so hot, marine biologists are removing coral because they're dying. Research it.
I hope the people stay safe.
That being said...
This shouldn't help the Malaria, Leprosy, and all the flesh eating bacteria thats terrorizing Florida.
Im surprised your governor came back to the state.
He's too busy fighting opinions he doesn't like to care about real problems.
Praying for everyone in the hurricanes path to be safe 🙏🏻 this reporter was compassionate with steps to take with the kids
Yeah cuz my daughter lives here in South Carolina during Michael and it ripped her trailer apart
I'm so sorry. Ian trashed our house pretty bad, and we're still fixing it now. This sucks so bad.
Universities have issued instructions for dorms.
I’m at a college in the Tampa area, they did an awful job informing us, just told us to leave, no safety suggestions other than “stay safe”

Prepare for 3-7 days of no power in that area some places maybe take longer. Thats a deadly storm. I would evacuate or make sure I AM WELL PREPPED and boarded up
Watching from JA ❤,Stay safe all more love.❤
What if the storm crosses through Florida then re-strengthens in the Atlantic then connects with the Gulf stream and re enters the Gulf of Mexico?
Cat 7 at that point lol
the other stream, the jet one, will insure that the storm will not reenter the Gulf of Mexico.
@@ceneaston3634 😂😂😂
The stream will shove it up towards Iceland and Europe...
Why is this dude going off about kids? I thought this was going to be an update about the actual storm.
"No power for weeks"..... I stopped using electricity more than a year ago.(phone charges in the car).Electricity is a luxury.
Yea fuck those people on ventilators and stuff. Living the life of luxury jackholes.
How do you endure the heat? No AC or even fans! 🙏🏼
@@pvh1583 I live in North Florida and the heat gets brutal. It's something you adapt to. The main thing is keeping fully hydrated. I have a creek running through my property. It's about 4" deep and I have no problem laying down in it, but I'm acclimated to this area and that plays a huge role. it was rough at first, but now, i have never been happier.
@@idonwantella2824No one wants to live like a homeless bum laying in a dirty creek to survive. Also, that big ass battery and alternator sitting in your car tells me that you do, in fact, use electricity.
Currently in Tallahassee. Id say the largest risk is from falling trees. If you have a loved one on campus, then they are in very little danger. Residential neighborhoods are a different matter.
Pray for them.
I really like the information to give your kids. Have not thought about that because I'm in Oregon. This weather guy needs to be be told thank you, just saying as a parent ❤❤.
This is not weather at this point.
My kids 40 and he should know what we do by now
we have heard that Hurricane Franklin is just churning around in a circle out in the Atlantic, any chance Idalia & Franklin can merge together north of Bermuda and turn back south? We can still remember a hurricane that turned back many years ago and just hung out off the coast of Ga. & S.C. Thanks,
Power sucks over there the slightest storm and the lights are out
Tornadoes most often occur in northeast quadrant between 100 and 250 miles from the eye. However a tornado is eminent if at any time thunder or lightning occurs during one of these tropical systems.
To much time on the kids. Get to the weather.
He is old-school I miss his type of people he is from a time where most of us only can imagine. These people were tough they prepared they were thoughtful. Just for themselves but clearly for others appreciate people like him. If you read between the lines he's giving a warning ⚠️ that there will be a definite loss of life in the large numbers.

That was my childhood in Miami. After Andrew we learned and were prepared for every one since then.
Oh, really, does Perry have a university campus? Florida at Perry take shelter. Can we review those Chooca Loka names?
Just drive inland. Drive to Cocoa beach maybe?

Why is this guy giving us a lesson on parenting when he should be doing his job and reporting the storm?
Because a lot of parents have to be told to care about their kids. Back in the day, we had an announcement. It's 12pm, do you know where your kids are?
Because he cares ❤️ be grateful instead of complaining.
