Canned biscuits are awesome! My mom made her dumplings with the small thin cans but I think I like your idea better using the larger ones. She would wait until there was a heavy rapid boil drop them in and then cover the pan with a lid for a few minutes offset the lid and let them steam for a few more seconds it just made them a little more puffy. She also took the biscuit dough and would make malasadas kind of like a fried donut with no hole in the center she would just press them flat fry them and put butter and honey on them or cinnamon and sugar I've yet to taste anything better and the price and ease of making them are just as wonderful. So glad I found you. My Aunt Ernestine made the best chicken and dumplings..EVER. Once in a while I find myself scrolling looking for a recipe that would replicate hers and never found it…until you. Her dumplings were always thin, square shaped…. Made from scratch. Not like the thick ones most recipes call for. Then, (like you) she would drop them into the broth one at a time. The smell would fill the entire house and I could hardly wait. I’m going to make these tomorrow using the flaky biscuit dough. Thanks for the reminder.
Something I always add to my broth is chicken base. It comes in a round jar found in the soup section at the store. It's a paste and is so flavorful you won't believe it. Just add a teaspoon or two and leave out the salt...the base is quite salty. I also use the beef base for my roasts and Italian beef. Mmmmm get ya some!
I’ve been making chicken & dumplings for 40 years. Same flavor profile as yours. I make my own dumplings and you know what? I’m sick of making dumplings, I really am. I’m doing it this way from now on. Oh and last time I used leftover creole baked chicken in the broth. Omg, it was to die for!

The biscuits recipe I have been using it for years and I believe I am a seasoned cook.ialso use Cream of chicken soup or cream of mushrooms which one or both of them that's on hand.i .prefer the cream of chicken.it a great thickening ingredient. This is a great dish in the cold winter months.my favorite.
Chicken and dumplings is a go to for Pennsylvannia dutch cooking. I'm not knocking her cooking at all. This is a good start for chicken and dumplings. It's a lot faster and easier and I'm sure it is very tasty!. For anyone with more time I suggest adding fresh carrots and peas and making actual biscuits from scratch and slowly placing them in. You wont be disappointed! Thanks for reminding me that I need to make this again soon and for showing me a quicker way to make this!

That looks so good! I'd probably stir in some thawed frozen peas and carrots a little before the dumplings or use drained canned ones at the end. Either way it'll warm the bones and put a smile on your face.

I make mine like this, my grandmother when I was young made them from scratch and would cut the dough like long strips, thats how I cut the biscuit dough, I flatten it out with the dough pin and cut in strips like grandma did, put some flour down so they dont stick and it also thickens the broth, so good..theres alot of salt in that bullion, try table spoon and taste then go up if needed
I use canned biscuits too. We always called them “whop biscuits “! I add some frozen green peas and carrots as well as parsley to garnish.

I use bisquik for my dumplings, drop it in to the boiling broth by small spoonfuls. One of my families favorite meals.
