Zeiss for life! The 55 is my most favorite lens of all time so far. I use the Sony 14mm for my real estate shoots and works great but it’s a very niche lens or lens for a specific purpose. Nothing compares to Zeiss for me. I agree.
I believed the 3D pop was mostly an imagined thing other than depth of field and bokeh. Today....yes, it is a real thing. There truly was some magical footage with the Zeiss 18mm.

Excellent timing on this one for me. I'm going with the Sony 16-35 F4 G. It's light its sharp and for me wide angle zooms are more useful than wide angle primes. I use primes from 40 to 90 though. Love your videos man. Haven't heard you rap before!
I went through that list this year a million times. I went with the 16 35 pz and man it's a beautiful lens. Especially on a gimbal. I used to own the Voightlander 15mm f4.5 before that, manual lens, also good but for some reason they added petals which stop you from adding filters... Yet the filter thread is there!
The 16-35 PZ is a phenomenal lens. It's crazy light, auto focus is top notch, the pz is cool but the thing that impressed me the most is the actual look. It may not have the Zeiss pop but it's got a filmic quality with some really nice contrast. The only problem with the Zeiss glass is that the auto focus is not as good as the new Sony lens and I don't think they're recognized for focus breathing comp or IBIS. Plus it's got de click aperture which can come in handy.
@@ChrisA2617 oh yeah the look and the colours. I was worried about that so much when I was deciding to get it. But it did not disappoint at all.

When I used to shoot sony like 5 years ago, the Zeiss 18mm 2.8 was my favourite lens for gimbal and photography. Def fav wide angle lens, till this day I wish it worked on my cameras.
That 20mm 1.8 looks good as hell. Still undefeated 💪
I sometimes pity the newcomers to the channel who hear all this frantic stuff about "Tony Eight" and have no frickin' idea whatsoever about the mystic inklings of the protagonist in this epic adventure!
There is a way to baypss the dodgy way active stabe works with third party lenses. You need to switch off the automatic focal length acquisition in the stabiliation menu and set the focal length yourself. Boom!
The Zeiss looks slightly better than the other two. The stabe is as jerky on the Zeiss as the Viltrox, though, so I guess it can't replace Sony 20mm for walk and talk.
I used to be a prime guy. But I got a 24-105 f4 and it's perfect for what I use it for. Thought I would want 2.8 or lower but f4 gives just enough blurry background for my liking.
I was torn between that and the Sigma 24-70 2.8 I ended up getting. I honestly do sometimes wish I had the OSS :(

Nothing beats 16-35 2.8. You could zoom to 35 to shoot the yoga people 😀 great music
I have the 12-40 2.8 from OMDS. It's pretty nice. M43, I know. I feel like the weird kid no one likes because he uses M43.

Between the A7S3 with the Zeiss 18mm F2.8 and the ZV-E1 with the Tamron 20-40mm F2.8 the choice is clear: if you’re a profesional photographer you get the A7S3/Zeiss, if you’re a youtuber with under 1 million subs you get the ZV-E1/Tamron.

I feel the same way about Zeiss lens for Sony where the only reason I bought into Sony the 16-35 stays on my camera My love of Zeiss lens goes back to the 1980’s with a Hasselblad 500 Series.Another reason I bought into Sony was that I could adapt my Leica M lens to it

Seems like the Sony 20/1.8 is the real winner - even if you are bored with it. The Batis series has nice contrast but lacks in sharpness and doesn't "pop" as much as people think.
Yeah.. Trading a incredibly high quality f1.8 prime for an f2.8 prime that's double the price... No thanks.
The Zeiss is leagues better, and was cheaper than I could ever find the 20mm.
@@cameraconspiracies both are around $550-ish USD mint used. Whatever inspires and looks best to your eyes is the best, just saying that the Zeiss doesn't come across as "leagues better" in this video. Hence, I only had the Batis 40/2 - I wanted to love the output, but just didn't. Perhaps I had a bad copy?
I hear the Nikon Z 20/1.8 is a real winner, but I don't shoot Nikon at this point.

I thought the Vitrox looked better and had a nicer glow to it. I have a Zeiss 50mm 1.4 T* and versed it against my Pentax FA 50mm 1.4 and they seem about the same in terms of 3D pop and rendering. The Zeiss has a purply/blue hue to it though, so I need to fiddle with white balance. Some Zeiss lenses look epic and others not so much.

I hear you about Tamron, as a lot of the lenses lack character. However, my Tamron 35mm F1.4 SP and 45mm F1.8 SP were really good and i regret selling them though.
Sigma and Tamron make different style lenses so they're not all flat-looking. Also, if you don't mind using their old dslr lenses, they have a lot of character an pop. The old (EX) Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and 50mm f1.4 are legendary among portrait photographers, for example. Among the newer lenses, the Sigma Art are the flattest ones, with the others looking better.
The 35 1.4 SP is magic. Beautiful fall off & rendering, but still impressively sharp
I wish Sony would make the perfect lens… like a 16-25 f2.8 or something.

Maybe my English isn't good enough, (because I'm not a native speaker) but I used to think 3d pop was the result of using a sharp lens in combination with shallow depth of field and the sharpness of the lens is in turn defined by how well the lens can reproduce micro contrasts, but the longer I listen to you the more I get the feeling that 3d pop seems to be the result of some kind of undefinable mystical secret sauce used in engineering the lens. Am I completely misunderstanding something? Please enlighten me!
Haha, it's the second part. It's some undefinable mystical quality in those lenses. Very subjective.
It's about the different contrast boost in the focus transition zone. There's a Leica tech talk about it.

You just need the DJI pocket 3 to vlogging now nothing more 😉
but one thing you have to admit though even at greater apertures the full frame provides a bit of 3d pop even in harsh lighting.

The only camera you will ever need for everything in life is the Sony FDR-X3000 (comes with a lens and it's a Zeiss).
Except that it can cost $900 new!

Hi Kasey, in some of the videos you said that camera backpacks are useless (and heavy) and that you use regular backpack. How do you manage to bring multiple lenses/cameras in one compartment and not scratch anything (aspecially when you bring couple of wildlife setups)? thank you
Do you still have the Zeiss 25mm? I've been wanting to see a comparison between that and the 20mm Sony... This video showed a decent example since they should be similar (25 and 18 zeiss) but I think the 20mm was overexposed before the switch over and it made the 18 look even better than it would have though I did see more pop
Quick question for any out there. Is the purple tinge on the skin tones while in the shade from grading, the lens or Sony colour science?
Actually S5II/X with Pamasonic 18mm F1.8 seems nice. Definitely better than Sony in IBIS department :P
Well, I love the 20-40f2.8, I use it on my A7CII and adapted on my Nikons. Paired with the 70-180f2.8, 100-400 Sigma, and YES a Samyang 45f1.8 prime "super softy."

Мой первый объектив это Tamron 28-75/2.8, потом я купил Tamron 20/2.8 - он лёгкий и компактный. Но буквально вчера я получил свой долгожданный Sony 16-35/4 Z. Я тоже считаю, что он лучший для блогов и первые два объектива я буду использовать только в особых случаях. И если 20/2.8 обрезать для стабилизации, то его ширины уже не достаточно.
все что шире 24mm слишком искаженное, после просмотра видео снятого кем то потом не узнаешь это место, все вообще другое дороги узкие улочки тесные а "по телевизору" было все такое вау широкое открытое эпичное.
