Just made the aluminium right angle piece mod to my kanyon, and also put a bunch of cable ties to tether it to the main chassis and share the strain on the screws to allow you to lift the car safely from the bumpers. Major improvement and everyone who has this truck should do it, no idea how that got through quality control as you mention!
Yes it's a low level of care for the product I'd say. Just one decent tumble and those 4 little plastic lugs wouldn't last at all. I've since made a Monster Truck using a Kanyon chassis, made the same mod only using slightly shorter angles to suit the monster truck body, it looks amazing.
Thanks for taking a look! I’m quite liking this model, the two most important mods I’ve done are definitely the ali bracing and lifting the motor and gearbox removing that beer belly. The gear reduction you’ve done sounds interesting.. 👍🏻
Some great mods here…I’ve done the chassis upgrade and motor mount lift, but I do realise that overcoming obstacles is largely based around the pumpkin getting caught up over things, as after the tyres, as this(the pumpkin) is the next thing that’s close to the ground after the tyres. With this in mind I’m looking at getting some portal axels (yup pricey hahaha but worth it I think as it will also help hopefully reduce the CoG). Have you seen the new two speed Kanyon (check out Modelsport) I’m looking at seeing if I can get the gearbox separately as that would make a brilliant mod. I see you’ve popped a lipo(?) at the front of your Kanyon up top - I’m guessing this is to add more weight up front? If so, here’s a little tip, get a couple of those Velcro straps and mount the lipo to just behind the front metal plate connected to the bumper. You can thread the straps through the gaps and fashion a little cradle so it hangs a tad lower down than where you’ve got it at the moment (which helps keep the CofG) down as well as help keep the front weighted. I haven’t handed a lipo like you to the front, but instead, removed my battery tray and instead fixed the lipo I use to power my rig, to this location. I use a hard shell 2s lipo - so very square and if I know I’m going to be getting it muddy/wet I just use a load of blue tack around where the wires go into the battery, which keeps it all safe and dry. I’ll see if I can make a quick vid and share. Not sure if you’re on the FTX Kanyon owners group on Facebook, but if you are you’ll see the latest 2speed Kanyon someone shared on there (looks like a Mountain Rescue truck). I’ll share my suggestion on there too. Cheers and great breakdown of your rig 👍 ps I’m running 2:2 tyres as well, except mine are Monster Truck tyres, without foams - I just like the squashed look and to be fair they do help a get a bit of traction over wet/soggy ground. I’ve just got a pair of metal bead lock wheels - which will add another 118g per wheel, so more weight low down/up front lol I do all this as if I’m going in for crawling competitions hahahaha but just love fiddling with it and modding it 😂
Hi i have today done the motor move upgrade and moved the battery box onto the side between the suspension a mod i haven't seen on here and it fits like a glove i have weight low down as well.
Thats an amazing transformation and awsomme mods that you have done to this truck. I can only describe it as a Cosworth Ftx Kanyon mate lol. All those mods and upgrades are brilliant and i especially like the floating battery idea. I am looking forward to watching a run video of this, top stuff mate 👍👍
Thanks Tibs, the battery tray idea I’ve borrowed from my Asenders, helps keep the weight further down at all times. When I move the servo to the chassis I’ll move the tray further forwards to aid more nose-end weight.
Thanks! This is a great truck too, its size really helps, able to span further across obstacles. I've only built the complete rolling chassis at the mo, ran it many times out and about but not yet started on the roll cage. I must crack on with RC again!
Thanks Brad! Hopefully it’ll perform much better now, I was going to venture off down the lane with it this afternoon but it’s too hot 🥵 ran it in the garden though and it’s showing good signs. It steers very well and scales up the logs easily enough.
Are you using the stock esc? It’s either a jumper setting on the esc or maybe add a little forward trim from the controller. I’ve never had a crawler which begins to role backwards on an incline (unless it’s exceedingly steep of course).
Quick question, just bought a kanyon, and a engine sound simulator for it, however the simulator has a deans connection n kanyon a tamiya connection, would an adaptor do the job?
I've never delved into sound boxes. I presume it must plug into the esc?... somehow.. How do you intend on powering it? It's own small lipo battery or from the esc? Seen as the battery white tamiya plug goes into the white tam' plug of the esc, you might need some sort of Y-plug lead for it?? Sorry buddy but my knowledge on sound boxes is minimal!
I’ve got some here which I bought from a shop through eBay but with one thing and another I’ve not got around to drilling the bore out a bit bigger yet and fitting them.
@@cramalnig thanks fragile. Just snapped another one. Seems like the pin holding the joint in the cup wears out on the ones I have. I will Look out for a set with proper cv jou he I think. Stay safe Dave
@@cramalnig So when i get mine can i just get a new esc or for me to use my lipo with a deans connector do i need to get a whole new motor setup? Love yoour vids btw
You can change all electrics as I have, so long as you have the correct male/female connectors to suit what electrics you’ve bought.. and happy to solder to join any wiring together.
CRAWLER RC thanks for having a look! It’ll be going out this week now for a long venture, only ran it a few times so far and it’s already a marked improvement on what it was out of the box.
Hi, seasons greetings! I’d recommend doing it yes, without the parallel angle bars the load bearing upon it tumbling over would certainly break one of the little plastic mounts (1 in each corner). I can pick mine up with either bumper now without it flexing, much more secure. 👌🏼
Hi All I have just done the motor lift mod and found that there seems to be slight binding of the greabox. Possibly due to the angle of the shafts Anyone else had this issue?
Hi i have done alot of the mods on mine putting a 35t motor in now looking at doing a 20t pinion upgrade can you advise if this is a good move and where i can get one from thanks.
Hiya, thanks for taking a look! By fitting a larger pinion you’ll be increasing its top speed at the expense of a controllable slow-speed crawling ability. Try it and see how you get on, I’ve always geared down on my crawlers so their electronics don’t have to work as hard to climb.

@@cramalnig I'll just do the angle mod tbh mate. Not really to sure what else I'll do. Thanks for the quick reply though! How long are the pieces on each side?
