I am brand new to this, and have used Planit Fusion for 5-6 years at my work. I bought sketch up as I am going to go freelance and Planit's software is very expensive It is so different and your tutorials are easy-ish to follow. You have a very listenable voice too which encourages and helps me.

This is the best video tutorial on SketchUp I've ever watched. Everything is just moderate. It has it all for a beginner to grasp the concept. Thanks a million. I now have hope that I will get started. This is the video I can boldly share with anyone who wants to get started with SketchUp. Mr. T is from South Africa.

Thank You! I have watched a ton of skeychup tutorials, most of which are pretty bad. It seems people are more interested in showing off, impressing others than they are interested in teaching. I have learned more in this one 17 min video about using this app then all the other crap I have watched. Everybody skipped right over the basics and jumped into things that are not easily or consistently doable without the basics. I will stay glued to your stuff from now on. THANK YOU AGAIN...

What I found the best is this: I play and stop your tutorial on one computer and then I am designing on a second computer actually experimenting with the tips . I keep pausing and going backwards until I get it. I did feel extremely frustrated about going from the software I mentioned above to sketch up, but your tutorial has kept me from going off the edge!!!

Right off the bat I just want to say I'm impressed with the amount of attention you give the comments here. I only just downloaded the program the other day and haven't had time to really play with it yet but I'm checking out the tuts and other media. I'm hoping to use this tool to design my tiny house.

I am going to check each video in the series, so please accept my thanks in advance.

And I will still be using version 8 as I do not intend to pay for anything newer and I do not need to share any data files with anyone.

      Liked and subscribed, of course.

as a self taught beginner I dead ended and did not want to deal with a tutorial, but I got some good insight from this that I missed in my own. One mention that I find useful that probably he will cover on a later vid is in addition to orbit and zoom with with scroll/middle click is using shift+scroll/middle click to pan. Also, it's more enjoyable to put the guy/girl that show up at the beginning into a box, and make a little window for them to see out. relax, the box doesn't have a bottom, they can leave whenever they want.

Thanks for your excellent video. I’ve had SketchUp for several years but never really learned how to use it. I’ve watched countless videos over the years and kept going back to it but just got more and more frustrated. Most videos move far too fast and assume that you already know a lot of stuff and lose you in the process. I thought I’d give tit one last try and watched your video and hey presto I’ve just drawn my first 3D sketch for shelves that I plan on building so thank you very much. Keep up the good work. Phil.

It would be helpful to us Mac users if the equivalent key or mouse button on a Mac were pointed out as Matt goes along. example: He mentioned the middle mouse button a few times, but there's no middle button on a Mac mouse. That aside, so far I'm impressed with the quality and clarity of this instructional video. Again, I just wish it were more multiple platform inclusive … OR is Sketchup primarily geared to the PC user?

I've used many complicated, multifaceted softwares in my time: TVPaint, Adobe Illustrator, Blender, professional video editing software, etc. I've encountered NOTHING as unintuitive as Sketchup.
Many softwares one can fiddle with and get the gist of the operations; not Sketchup. Everything is connected then they all skew together when you move one thing, right clicking produces nothing that you think it should, it's cumbersome.
How this software ever became as popular as it is is clearly a testament to a good marketing team, promotion, and strategy.
