I'm a 71 year old grandma of 5 who has been using Fusion 360 for the last year for free for 3D printing and have got on really well for the simple projects I have done. However, being a law abiding citizen, I would feel guilty if I used a different name etc to sign up for another free year and I certainly can't afford a paid subscription. So I've been looking for another free software package to produce 3d models for 3D printing. This is the first tutorial I have come across which has simple, easy to understand instructions. I have learnt more in this tutorial than in all the others I've looked at. Thank you so much. I'll keep viewing.

to create simple structures, a better solution than "Sketchup" is 3D. "Design Spark Mechanical" is an even better program than "Fusion 360" and it is a free program.

Hey! Learned to use sketchup today using your tutorials. They were great because I got pretty far but there were some things I missed.
Like how to navigate trough the workspace, I had no clue the first 30 minutes. Also had to search in another video how to change dimensions as I'm from Europe. Also took me like 15 minutes to realize i was using comma's instead of points no surprise the sices were invalid :p! There is also one thing that seems buggy to me. Sometimes all of the shortcuts don't work anymore so you have to point and click. Then all of a sudden they magically work again, still a lost soul bout that one. Anyway thanks a lot this part 1 and part 2 really helped!

I've been using the time limited version of SketchUp for a few weeks, and just tried getting to grips with the online version for when the 40 days expires.
An interesting feature in the online version is automatically making model Revisions at every save point. Shame this is missing in the desktop version.

I have not started sketchup yet, I thought I'd watch a few tutorials first. Yours is one of the better ones Ive seen, so thanks for that. One question: are you using a mouse or a trackpad? I ask because some other tutorials recommend a mouse. Problem with that is (a) not great for the wrist and (b) cant use your laptop on your lap; need a table. That's why mice became obsolete in the first place. Whats your recommendation?

Thank you for this video. I've been trying to follow how to use Sketch Up off and on for the past several years. I learned how to use drafting software back in the days of Windows 98 and 2000 while in High School. I was pretty proficient and helped draft up several farm buildings. The modern software is so overwhelming and frankly too expensive for the limited use I need today. I just want to build some furniture items and put together cut sheets like so many RUclipsrs seem to be doing today. Your tutorial was to the current version and that is very helpful, too many of them are back from when SketchUp was a standalone company or when it was operated by Google. Now that Trimble owns the rights, it is even more different. I kinda wish I could afford the installation version, as the browser version is a little finicky. But, it is worth it to try out.

"click only once, then put your fingers on the keyboard and type the measurements"--that is what I came looking for. But what you didn't say is this: "Now that you have typed the measurements you want, CLICK THE MOUSE. Hitting the "enter" key will not do anything at all. Just be careful not to move the mouse as you click it, so you don't shift the measurements."

    Great video and tutorial.
I have a question, I have a 1950's Texaco Garage Plan 1:43 Scale that I bought and I am wondering is it possible to bring it into Sketchup as it is in a PDF file, then manipulate it so that it would be a full drawing then save it to or export it to a program or with in this program - (not sure) so that it could become an STL file with the ability to print it on my Resin Printer.
Or do you know of a service that can do this. The plan is on 8.5 x 11 and is 9 pages.
Look forward to finding out if there is anything that can be done.

Quick question. When I use the line tool ...... I left click to start line then move my mouse to create line. Then I left click again to finish line. However the line draw function still will not turn off and everywhere I move curser the line still follows. I know it has to be something simple that I'm not seeing. Advice?

Great videos! However, I get a little confused when you say the blue plane is the flat plane and the red plane is the vertical plane. But looking at screen, blue is vertical to me, red is flat and green is the "depth" plane as I call it. Have I got this wrong? Thanks!!

My goal here is to make multiple diagrams of the planet Earth, our solar system and the dynamo that the Sun uses that provides energy to each and every planet and body in our solar system. It's in my head and I'm hoping I can use this software as a tool for my peer reviewed paper. Any suggestions will be much appreciated, even better software for conveying my message in a way almost anyone can understand. #TheElectricUniverseTheory

Hi, I am still confused about how to create a 3d Hemisphere. I have tried to use the push-pull and to make angles etc. as you said, but I cannot get it to work for me. How do I do this?

hi, is there any cad program that uses single continuos line for circles?? not segments like sketchup, i really hate this, specially when you need to start doing tubes and intersect them, it always creates so many problems, blank gaps, erros, bugsplats etc, any cad program without this stupid way to do circles?? thanks

I was following a tutorial for Mario 64 rom hacking and was stumped at a certain point. The part where drawing on another shape and using the push/pull tool erase part of it was exactly the fix I had to find.

No matter how many turorials i watch i can not use this program to my advantage. Just trying to do what you say as far as drawing a line and adding the measurements does not happen. I can never type in the measurements box.
Not to mention the view i want is the outside of a simple, square front of a 2 story building. The view of the inside corner of a room with a woman standing in it is bothersome.
I want to do what i consider a most basic thing..
    Seriously frustrating
