***** I'm not a pro, but I do play competitively. A major factor in why tennis players go harder during practice is simply because it's not as intense or nerve-wrecking - they're fairly care free and willing to try harder shots. And this trying of harder shots eventually allows for actual improvement in your game. Don't get me wrong, they go all out on some matches and give it their all, but the mindset is just very different when you're practicing as opposed to when you're in a match. You're not as focused, you're willing to risk more, and sometimes you just want to try that hard shot.
***** MrPatelpb Thanks guys, great answers. I understand why they would go for harder shots in practice and why that improves their game, I just wasn't sure about pace, as I expected pros to have it completely dialed in. When I play, too much pace is rarely a problem, the problem is the angling and placement. Thanks a lot anyway.
Man i can watch this all day..it shows how greatness i created behind the scenes with hours of intense practise .BTW i have seen him in real life 4 times
thank you very much for the high quality footage! My only complaint is that you forgot to film Rafa's footwork which is the secret behind all that power...
it's true that he was born to play tennis, but don't tell me that he makes it look so damn easy because every time he hits a shot it's like he is moving a mountain
He could have chose to be a professional soccer player like his dad or tennis like his uncle (his coach) but he chose tennis, he still has really good soccer skills
Absolutely brutal, who can do it? someone from another planet, that being is called Rafael Nadal and has won 14 Roland Garros, if anyone on this planet can even match, let's go there.
Rafa is a natural righty who plays tennis lefty and the mental part of his game is righty strong power strokes ..grinding in nature wearing opponents wills down. Whereas Mac was lefty allvday long.. Artistic unpredictable always varying pace ..beautiful serve with cat like net game.
Yeah it kinda is as well as his semi-western grip i can generate tons of spin like him with a similar racket setup tho I'm not a tank he has a bit more because of his strength. If i used a 15x16 string pattern like the steam 99s me and almost any other 5.0+ player could generate even more
+Thomas magnum why don t you just go and replace nadal then?if you re sooo good just fucking go and play atp,I have a good one hander I can blast it hard and flat I can give it topspin but that doesn t make me stan wawrinka(best 1handed bh in the world and my fav player) ,stop acting like you can do what they do just because you can do that against crappy club oponents
Leonard Berglund said Bjorn Borgs strokes were weird and not very pretty but don't change them cause they are effective. Laver had weird looking game too. Pancho Gonzales had a game that was smooth as silk.
what happened to his 2010 trophy position ??? I always wondered why he changed that great serve he had back then when he won US Open. Why would he change his old serve (which I am sure wasn't difficult) to win US open and then get rid of it again!
To the idiotic, absurd haters: Armstrong´s sudden and dramatic improvement on his performance at a point of his mid-career had no logical explanation, nor did Ben Johnson`s or some others. Nadal has been a physical wonder since he was 16, beating players much older and stronger than him, by then he already outrun his opponents without having a fitht of the power that he developped latter - just like Nole, Murray and RF increased in power as they matured. And if you knew him - and his uncle - you would know that his principles would prevent him from taking any drug. It's quite coward to falsely accuse hidden behind a nickname.
I'm a Rafa fan but come on his forehand is not beautiful just strong and effective. Jonny McEnroe had a beautiful graceful game in his heyday. With every kind of stroke imaginable
Rafa is a lot more related to Bjorn Borg in a modern sense and guess what both dominated the French where grinding style seems to win.though both are complete all surface champs
willkittwk Wooden racquets are just as powerful as modern racquets though. They even tested top players' serves with wooden and modern racquets and the speed was identical.
+willkittwk that's because the formula for force or velocity (I forgot which) amplifies speed more than weight. Since metal bats are much lighter you can swing them a lot faster which compensates for the loss of weight as well as add additional force
Noah Garcia seems logical because the slow balls hitting close to the baseline seem to be easier to get pace off of with a new raquet than a wooden one. Aero dynamics, material, weight probably factor in.
Favour Daka yeah of course but still it's almost impossible to beat him on clay xD I mean to beat him once in clay is pretty crazy hahaha. I'm not saying Soldering is better or anything just saying o.o
***** back then soldering played the match of his life to give Rafa his only loss at Roland Garros. If you noticed Robin was hitting out so much and playing to win the point not playing not to lose the point which is an impossible way to beat Rafa especially on clay.a constant barrage of flattened out deep forehands and aggressive serving. Delpotro did the same to Roger at US open the same year I think it was
thefridgeman are you seriously that ignorant? First of all, this is Nadal in practice, and when he practices he hits much harder than most players do, secondly how fucking rude do you have to be to make that kind of analogy?
How so ? Rafa has the unit turn as most players do and the snap back of the wrist also like all atp players. How effort is more physical related I think what you're getting at
Or maybe this is how you should be training, so that you don't lose familiarity with your strokes and become afraid of your own power. Plus it's not like he overtrains, so it's worth it. This is how you build trust in your own strokes even in pressure moments so that you rarely doubt your strokes. Plus if you haven't been listening, he hits the ball twice as hard in practice as he normally would he matches just to get a feel for the ball.
cj397 Then explain the point. don't just tell me I'm missing it. Plus, if the issue is doping, then I can't help you, since u can only assume based on ur own beliefs of what the human limit is. My belief is that he just has crazy pain tolerance only b/c as Toni said he's been playing through pain his entire career. May be hard for u to believe, but if u do something over n over again, the more u get use to it, so the pain and fatigue becomes more manageable. So again, if the doping is the point, I explained my part already. Besides, that, until someone has solid proof, it will always sound like you're just a hater.
JiraiyaSama86 No one's talking about doping. You're saying nadal going 150% in practice for no reason = practicing correctly. Every pro player trains hard except for the lazy ones yet they will lose familiarity? Also his faked "injuries" and months off at a time off tour are also pretty obbvious. Stop being blind.
cj397 You did in ur first comment about doping. Second not saying they don't train hard, just some probably aren't necessarily practicing the way they probably should. He isn't going 150% for no reason. You obviously didn't read the part about getting a feel for the ball. On the issue of injuries and layoffs, you don't have evidence that they are fake or what is necessary. Not every pro does what the doctor recommends - including sufficient time off. Do you necessarily listen to your doctor ALL the time, especially on waiting 2 full months before hitting a tennis ball again? I know i don't and it's not just me. As for faked injuries - you go ahead and play the style he does and then tell me whether it's fake or not. if you're not going to, maybe find a friend and have them tell you whether it's fake or not. just because someone might be enjoying their time off IF that's what you're referring to doesn't mean they're fake. they just aren't going to weep about it and focus on it- why bother when you can enjoy other things and mentally recharge.
He is there while you and I are here watching. Carreno Busta is a good player. You have to realize that the top 10 players are on another level then a sub 30 ranked player. Hell, then you have Rafa, Roger, Nole, and Murray who are on an even higher level. He isn't bad, he is a pro for obvious reasons, but you really have to account for how great these legends are man.
Anyway that's not even the point to know what ranking the guy on the other side of the net is : he's doing his job of just to make the trained player play ! He does it not bad nor well, he does it as it has to be done and as it would be really easily done by any pro player...
it is because you dont understand tennis.. his technique is brilliant.. this forehand comes from rogers.. but rafa has little different swing more like wrecking ball.Generates more spin.. this techniqe is minimal on the same level as federers..
I wish all tennis matches would be shown from this angle.
Ikr. This view makes tennis look a lot more intense. From bird's eye the ball looks like it's going 3 mph
pedroV2003 agree
yeah really. it gives me way more appreciation for how they play
from this perspective, it looks way more powerfull than on tv.
Any of Rafa's forehands would be a winning shot against anybody I play with...so much spin and power even while training...dammit.
***** really?
why would they do that? so it becomes second nature?
***** I'm not a pro, but I do play competitively.
A major factor in why tennis players go harder during practice is simply because it's not as intense or nerve-wrecking - they're fairly care free and willing to try harder shots.

haha
Ahahahhahaha

Those forehands are so heavy...
The speed is insane !! Keep up this great videos man !
this quality is insane thank you
thank you very much for the high quality footage! My only complaint is that you forgot to film Rafa's footwork which is the secret behind all that power...
his matches are too intense to watch, but i could watch his body move about all damn day long
Nadal was born to play tennis, He makes it look so dam easy
it's true that he was born to play tennis, but don't tell me that he makes it look so damn easy because every time he hits a shot it's like he is moving a mountain
+alemaz1 no, i think it looks badass when he plays. nadal just is tennis
the way he picks up the ball at 2:24 is so cool.. I had to watch it a couple of times to know how he did it. :-)
Rob Candelier Soccer tekkers
Rob Candelier search and watch "dancing maradona", it's the first thing he does with the ball in the video
2:20 now that's a damn backhand. nadal's backhand is so underappreciated because of his forehand.
totally agree!
@2:16 plonker
He has the best backhand in the world, better backhand than Joker because he’s better at hitting it on the run
Unbelievable spin and power from Nadal.....
Nadal has so much power and spin it's insane
Rafa is a natural righty who plays tennis lefty and the mental part of his game is righty strong power strokes ..grinding in nature wearing opponents wills down. Whereas Mac was lefty allvday long.. Artistic unpredictable always varying pace ..beautiful serve with cat like net game.
scary forehand spin!
Rajeev Sudhakar Its just his strings rpm blast
Thomas magnum Yeah, no it's not.

Radu Vlad Fed in his prime has a better backhand than stan
mind blown at 7:08
The GOAT
Superbe vidéo ont voit bien Rafa !!!
damn nadal looks a lot more confident here. nowadays he acts intimidated as shit on court
I became a tannis lover because of this guy! he is the best n will be allways king of tennis
still not enough spin......
Where do u find these footage from
Leonard Berglund said Bjorn Borgs strokes were weird and not very pretty but don't change them cause they are effective. Laver had weird looking game too. Pancho Gonzales had a game that was smooth as silk.
6:13 ??!
Love you Rafa, you're my idol
hahahaha it loaded with 144p in my device and I was like "what was this a joke?"
4:00 if I was the one recording i would whisper and said i love you
Any notice that he only does his buggy whip forehand when he is hitting the ball crosscourt? Generally speaking.
Lol
what happened to his 2010 trophy position ??? I always wondered why he changed that great serve he had back then when he won US Open. Why would he change his old serve (which I am sure wasn't difficult) to win US open and then get rid of it again!

Good question, some reasons I could think of could be because of injuries and consistency issues or because of fatigue in hitting that serve

His follow through is different on almost every shot.
I'm a Rafa fan but come on his forehand is not beautiful just strong and effective. Jonny McEnroe had a beautiful graceful game in his heyday. With every kind of stroke imaginable
wow, just wow.
WTF at 7:10??
exactly
+David Guerin it was bouncing. Barely, still, pretty good.
+Martin Jacobs I can do that. I Can't hit a forehand past the service line but I can do that pretty easily.
Are most Spanish courts clay?
Yes. Most spanish players learn to play on clay from a young age.
i actually had a friend from madrid who told me he preferred hard court and he usually played hard court....
Arthur Yagami so? hou think 100% prefers xlay lol
actually no im from spain and I only play in hard courts and the near clubs are almost all of them hard courts

I’m sooooo lucky to not be a pro player and stand across from *that*
And Pancho hit a forehand that was once timed at 115mph with a wooden racket
willkittwk Wooden racquets are just as powerful as modern racquets though. They even tested top players' serves with wooden and modern racquets and the speed was identical.
I take your word on that. It seems odd though cause metal baseball bats impart a greater velocity than wood and the ball travels farther
willkittwk The strings are what ultimately makes contact with the ball though.
+willkittwk that's because the formula for force or velocity (I forgot which) amplifies speed more than weight. Since metal bats are much lighter you can swing them a lot faster which compensates for the loss of weight as well as add additional force

Sai N. DelPo is a beast
2:24 ???
why doesnt he use the buggy whip on every shot like he does in games
He uses the buggy whip a lot in matches because he's often out of position.
wow
Come on... there is no way he is playing that hard...
He is just imitating the posture of a hard play because that way he prepares his body for the shock of a real game, but he is not really playing hard.
j adore
Need more spin, no?
2:23 thug life
all comments are jokes lol
Was a "Make a wish" Foundation event? The other guy wanted to hit with Rafa before dying? Can't be a tennis player...he got destroyed.

Way too much effort to make a regular shot..
