- Hi, this video shows me attempting to repair my Dad's electric heater.
Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things.
I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series.
Many thanks, Vince. Хобби
Don`t know bout a separate series of how it works but I do love the way you explain how it works as you try to fix
reminds me I gotta get me in gear and fix some stuff I been putting off
Another excellent repair vince 👍. And also well said on the advice in safety too for those who are beginning repairing on here 👍
Thanks Vince, I have the same heater and am about to change the bulbs. You've saved me a lot of hassle getting into the device. Now I know what to do.
handy little fix video Vince. like the way you make sure the safety aspect of fixing is paramount... people do tend to make mistakes with the simple safety steps... so thumbs up matey. keep up the good work.
Great video as always Vince, and I think a series of “How things work” videos would be awesome! 👍
really enjoyed this one your videos are really helpful keep up the good work Vince
Sir, you are a genuine star, my ancient halogen heater died recently after 20 years of winter service and was taking it down the tip when I relented thinking it could be fixed and then this vid appears... quality and genius at work keep it up :D
Haha...Perfect timing :-)
That is a fantastic idea, we could all learn at the same time Vince!
after i watch vince fix things i feel like i can do anything.
Love this channel Vince..you try and fix a variety of stuff which is thoroughly entertaining(like GadgetUK mentioned once in a comment)..im going to try and repair my Atari 1050 drives(all 4-5 of them lol)
I would like to see how things work like that it would be very awesome to watch and keep up the great vlogs 😊
While I'm not against "How it works" videos, I do think the "Try to fix" videos has an extra element of excitement to them.
I enjoyed that fix as well, thank you for sharing .
Wow just watched your first how does it work video and now watching this and this is where you first mention that series lol
Hey vince greetings from Glasgow Scotland love the videos mate and I think that's a good idea make videos on how things work. Keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the feedback mate :-)
Interesting fix video Vince. Really enjoyed it.
Thanks, glad you liked it :-)
@@Mymatevince You're very welcome.
I like that idea of just seeing how things work.
I found myself really warming to this fix!
Come on Vince, now we need something more... maybe a space X spacecraft or something on this level.... lol ....
great video...
not sure if heat lamp bulbs are the same as normal halogen light bulbs but you're not supposed to touch the glass, the oil residue from your skin burning on the surface of the bulb shortens the life.
So the heater company chose to decorate with screws. 😂
Thanks for the how-to video. Two thumbs up.
That's gonna be a hot topic around the table this christmas.
Love these vids
Always worth trying to fix something like this =D It will be good for a long while now!
Thanks, this one was strangely satisfying to do. I think because it was so simple and no headaches :-)
Yep I would love to see how things work,,be very interesting 👍🏼
You're a top bloke Vince
Perfect my just blew right now.. this video just worked it out for me.. I will got to eBay now.. thanks
Yes I think that would be an interesting series of videos and it would teach people how thing's work
I do like the idea of a how it works videos as I’ve got a door bell that has stopped working and would like to fix it.
Cheers didn't know about the button, knocked mine over while pissed. It works lol
Touching the bulb with bare hands lowers its life. Doesn't like the oils on your hands
Ha the amount of hid bulbs I've touched and held with zero issues would disagree
overall just wipe them clean with a damp, barely soapy cloth and the oils will not be a problem better yet wash your hands just before replacing the bulb and the minimal oil will not harm them
Only on halogen lamps with thin glass cases, like car headlight bulbs. The rest doesnt care your greasy fingers.
@@erakan didn't know that I guess these lamps are the thick kind since light output doesn't matter much
@@erakan I've seen it happen with the thicker ones too
Definitely would like to see those type of "Teardown" videos
I like the idea of a "how it works". First one - a toaster. It "knows" that it's cold for the first slice, so it runs for longer than for the second slice, when the toaster is hot. Be interesting to see how it does that, for example.
Great idea, I will add it to the list. Thank you :-)
ex job...makes me wonder if I could manage it in future, but mine still has 1 element working, and
condition overall not as good as one you worked on,so may leave it,but really enjoyed your
video, and gives me something to think about for future,as I was told they could not be repaired.
I also have a small fire,2 elements, and these are much easier to replace, and heat is even better,so
may stick to those.ray.
Good ol' Ebay special on those bulbs
Big Clive does them but hey there is plenty of room, I'll watch for sure!
+My Mate VINCE Superb work, your Dad must be a happy camper👍 and yes I would like to see "how it works" type of content.
Thanks for the feedback :-)
@@Mymatevince Welcome sir👍
Do not touch the Halogen bulb surface or inside reflectors with your bare hands. Oils from skin can lead to breakage or shorten the life of the lamp. Use clean gloves or lint free cloth for installation and removal. Clean any dirt, oil, or lint away from the lamp with alcohol and a lint free cloth or tissue.
That's what i thought too, not sure if these bulbs have quartz glass though. Still good practice to not handle filament lamps by the envelope though
i remember this also... because i used to work with UV industrial printers... and everytime that i needed to change the lamps... the main thing that you couldn't do was touch the lambs...
Yeah those halogen elements will lead to burning at the point of where they have been touched and will fail sooner.
@@imbb14 You should not be touching lambs. That is unnatural and against the law.
Igor M yep never touch the baby sheep 😂
Nice Video. Pleas keep in mind: high temperature lamps get damaged from salt water. The sweat on your fingers will contain a small amount of salt which can damage the lamps. It would be safer to wear gloves or to clean the bulbs with IPA after change.
how would the salt on the outside of a sealed tube damage the element inside? makes no sense, the inside is completely sealed from the outside. This is just a case of normal failure of the tungsten filament just like in any incandescent light bulb.
@@giovannifoulmouth7205because the glass tube is made of quatz glass. Quartz glass is know to change its properties when in contact with salt water and heat. It makes the glass weak which lets the tube implode.
great video to watch thanks 💽
Not watched the vid yet, just thought I'd say though @My Mate VINCE it's because of you that I've recently just spent 30 odd quid on a Game Gear with dim screen, 6 or 7 games and a set of caps to go with it lol... I still haven't finished my Bang & Olufsen Beovision 8802 project yet (needs a TBA120U for the sound demod. that's also on order) and I'm looking forward to both :D I really wanted a Game Gear when they were current but my family could never have afforded it, i was lucky enough to have a NES! Anyway i had no idea they were so cheap in faulty condition (and even working, relatively)... Thanks for enlightening me lol
any halogen bulbs should not be handled with bare hands( and often have paper around tube or plastic gloves included,. however these are not bulbs, they are elements so a bit more durable....my mate vince, great job, done many of these, and yes , some oscillate..
nice to see one sorted as most throw them away because you can buy them for around £10 maybe less and its a hassle changing the element for some people.
Because most people are too lazy to do it themselves and won't send them in for repair.
And it's fun for others (aka Vince)
Yeah why not, but there are plenty of @tear down@ videos. As Adam said, you need to understand it to fix it!
I've a very similar heater and one element, the one used the most, didn't always come on. The problem was bad connection where end of element makes contact. Heating had burnt the connection, kind of like what leaky batteries do. The plating was knackered and so contact very difficult to clean up well.
HOT video mate. 😆
Didn’t get a notification, but at least saw it in my recommendations
Same never got notified
Taking apart working stuff to find out how it works = Big Clive!
Is the insulation tape a high temperature one?
I would make sure. Lot of heat inside that casing.
Im glad someone else saw this. Use high temp tape or even use high temp silicone or ceramic isulation sleeving. That tape will just heat up and fall off. I can't believe so many people are mentioning the halogen lights not being touched with bare hands and no one seems to care about the electrical safety of the thibg
@@reverberer To be fair, the smarter thing to do would be to cut the wire. Throw some heat shrink on it, solder the wires and shrink over them. This is an ok quick fix, wouldn't want it being a perma solution though.
Hello Vince my halogen heater almost exactly the same as the one in your video was working fine I had it on full power for over an hour next thing it had turned itself off. So I assumed the fuse had went. Turns out it was that switch on the bottom for some unknown reason all a sudden wasn’t pushing in enough to make the connection. I’ve not got the Y shaped screwdriver. So I held heater up pushed the switch right in on the bottom and all halogen lamps come on. I guess the contacts need adjustment in meantime I put a small plastic shim underneath which makes sure the switch is right in. I feel if this heaters are on a thick pile carpets make cause the switch not to fully engage
Cheers from the highlands of Scotland
I just like the fix it video's
Great i have a very similar repair thanks
great video. at least it keeps it out of landfill. we all live in a throw away society.
Personally, I Don't see the point of 'How it works' videos as that is pretty much explained in 'trying to fix' videos. I Think it would be better to try to fix more household items or things that are popular which are prone to breaking.
Big Clive does it on his channel. he knows electrical circuits and is able to reverse engineer devices into a schematic for all to see.
NOT SO FRIENDLY JAPANESE BUSINESSMAN
Hey Vince get yourself some kapton tape(high temperature tape) to cover the insulation tape just incase heat creaps out the side!........
Yes good idea how things work , strip them down to look and sort of understand as to how they work. Rebuild them back to a state where they now need repair. Part 1 and Part 2...
Good fix for $5. Nice job!
Thanks :-)
@@Mymatevince I was just given a Kourg coffee maker by a friend. It took me 5 minutes of watching a repair video to verify what I already suspected was wrong with it. I had it apart, cleaned and reassembled in 30 minutes, working like new. Thanks to guys like you and?I, we can keep perfectly good electronics from ending up in the rubbish. I was amazed to watch some guys get a computer that came from an Apollo lander after the series ended and were able to get it operating again after 40 years. It was amazing! If they can get that operating, we can get old electronics going again. Keep up the awesome videos!
Thank you Vince .. most helpful! But I shall be wearing gloves to handle the bulbs :)
How it works series would compliment the fixing ones.
when your not sure if you can test bulbs, thanks man
Big Clive has ya beat
Hi, can I ask where you get your tester please?
My halogen heater stop working! ! I have change all the bulbs but still no luck doesn't do turn on! Also check the fuse and is fine , any idea what else can be causing the problem cheers
Antonio
Mine has a broken on off switch how i can fix it or replace it
Great vid 👍 how ever you should never touch the the glass on the halogen bulb or tube with your fingers 😏
I think you should do the how it works series’s it will be very interesting I
Nice video🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
I'd like to see videos of how things work, even if you can't fix them
You should do a siriese of whats in side and how they work vidios i think that this might be grate ☺
Cool man
Hi Vince, I've got one of those halogen heaters and mine oscillates on a motor in the base. Don't know whether you missed that or they've gone cheap and don't use a motor anymore? Keep up the good work.
Mine too and button is labelled 'turn'
I don't see a button on this one and I think you can also see when he showed the base that there was no motor sadly.
i want a how things work series
my opinion would be how things work wile your trying to fix things at the same time
Meri orpat hallogen heater ki charoo rods chl nhi rhi kya kharabi hai plz reply
can you fix a samsung s7 edge front cracked screen ?
Hi Vince. Any idea where I might obtain a replacement aluminium honeycomb cover? Thanks.
Are you in London Vince? I got a free spare if you give me measurement.
@@weeleelim7456 Alas no, but thanks for the reply Vince
@@ProgNosis_JD Welcome. Good luck.
I have faulty on off switch when Holding down heater works but the switch dose not lock down
How can I remove the on off switch please?
Cool
you find out how it works during the fix it videos. more fun. I vote no unless its something very interesting and rare
Thanks for the feedback :-)
Hey My Mate Vince! I got a modded original XBOX as a gift and when I turned it on smoke came out. I was wondering if you would like to try and make a video on it. I would of course pay for the shipping and repair.
Try some this is fasinatting
I want to see how racing wheel work :o
How jac heater ngh3025 work & how to repair it
OMG THERE IS MOREEE
I have one these heaters which functions electrically but the plastic housing is falling apart exposing internal electrical connections. Parts of the case fell off when moving it from one room to another. The point being these units become dangerous as they age and people need to know. The importers CTC Ltd at B69 3BA are not contactable.
i even have a broken halogen heater but i know how its gonna end if i try to fix it
Yeah, to diversify your content range a little, yes, you could do a "How Things Work" series of videos, if you haven't done so already
Didn't you find a faulty Apollo?
the bulb mount/fixture where the bulb sit and get electricity from the circuit is broken
Hi, Mate VINCE, how can I contact you?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You must never touch these heater tubes with bare hands as the oils from your skin can cause the tubes to explode very suddenly so wear heavy duty gloves which will key any oils off the tubes and prevent them from exploding when they come on.
wtf these tubes are tough enough to withstand hundreds of degrees but get defeated by some oils, get outta here
go 4k video Vince.
Never disassembly a halogen heater, wery interesting for me.
quartz are better elements, they're not as nasty to the eyes
Nooooot first yaaaaaay wait what !! 😭😭😭
Things where once built to last now they are made to break ,my halogen drove me nuts after buying new bulbs they weren't even replaceable the first set of bulbs that came installed whent after a couple of weeks use im weary of buying electrical stuff after this experience
Hi Vince ,you need to be careful touching the Quartz glass with your bare hands ,it destroys the glass envelope very quickly ,next time you should use gloves or a cloth.
It's just a failed element which needs replaced, but no touchy touchy with bare fingers of the new elements
Just seen that you touched the element, they will fail sooner.
This just goes to show how inefficient halogens are at producing visible light. Most of the energy goes into producing infrared light, which is useless for human eyes, but nice for producing heat. I'm not sure if they are more or less efficient compared to incandescents, but both technologies are big energy wasters (excepting for heat purposes, as with this product) and thank little baby Jesus for LED's.
