Makes a lot of sense this video. That said, I'm in love with the TT. Getting my first one in a few weeks. Never been able to afford one before. I know it's going to be hard sometimes but part of the joy is embracing the experience. It doesn't make sense but.. ever since I was a kid I knew one day I'd drive a little coupe. Can't put a price on happiness. (But I bet my mechanic will). Thank you Parrot Bros, your work is greatly appreciated.

It's a difficult one. If you love the car, sentiment value is always gonna be higher than actual value with these TTs. Mine, I do love enough to have spent waaaaay over her actual value keeping her on the road, turned into a resto-mod that I will never sell (and financially speaking would never be worth selling). But she's a lovely Green Roadster Quattro, I'm the second owner from new and she still turns heads. More importantly she turns my head, every time I park her I have to turn back to give her a loving stare before closing the garage, and that's what owning a car should be about right?

Definitely glad you made this since ive had a few people ask me sbout getting TTs or other audi / european cars. I live in the US and parts here are attrociously expensive. The story goes I got another TT this summer after my first one got toalted. It was 5.4k and ive at least put 3k on my time and brining it into the shop, not to mention another 1.6k recently for axle and cv boot repairs. This is after sourcing parts off my old one too. Taillights, sensors, trim etc. They are wonderful cars and after replacing the old rusted out front parts and old hoses shes peppy and smooth but by God is there more work. The rear subframe and suspension need to be replaced, 80% of the hoses still need to be replaced with solicone ones and paint / rust i havnt even touched. And im up in the salt belt. Im lucky its not on any major parts yet. My other one had it bubling under the rear windshield. But im lookin easily another 5k or more. Which ive accepted ill tank. Shes my first car ive really been able to dive in deep with and take apart mod etc. So it means a lot if i can save her and make it a good nice daily. I agree on all points you gave out Dom and people should be aware of how pricey things get quickly. Just a note tho, not everything will be urgent and for someone this could be a whole year resolution for the car depending on salary and how often you take it out. I just can't imagine breaking a car like these considering what is usually on the road nowadays but it's totally understandable why people do it considering the market. In fairness it's an old car now. Mine is a 2003. Most of the repairs you've listed I've had done over a 3 year period. The brake discs you condemned have been sitting for a good while, once driven they will clean up enough to pass an MOT. the headlights with a good polish will probably also pass an MOT. Of course you're correct in what you are saying but you're condensing all these repairs to be done at once before it's driven. A good video but the story of that vehicle is not as bad as you paint in my humble opinion.

While I agree not all works need to be compensated immediately most do and while it’s all possible I’m trying to demonstrate to the less technical people to do their research when buying a car. Not just one that looks nice.
Every car can be saved at a cost, more often than not at a cost greater than a cars value.

Dom, can you recommend someone with the Vag-Com software to reset a steering sensor. Done the bushes on our MK1 (front and rear) and had a 4 wheel alignment afterwards and the TRC light is on, scanned it and it says steering angle sensor is the issue. We are just about to do timing belt and waterpump.
