- One of the most talented, influential and legendary singers of all time, Aretha Franklin was also a woman who suffered no fools. An icon of entertainment, including when being interviewed haha
_"Great Gowns , Beautiful gowns"_ never gets old ! ICONIC! 😂
Hahahaha 🤣🤣🤣
Well thats a fact
😩😩😩😭😭😭
😂😂
😂😂 so ICONIC
"She was in the background"😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
That was RUTHLESS. 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂 bruh she said "not very attractive or flattering"😂😂😂
Great gowns, beautiful gowns.
One of the most iconic shades. Of all time
It's a legendary!!
@@popland1977 true!
Even she shade Taylor . Taylor still tribute to her with her fan in one concert .
@@chhaylong2086 That's the beauty of shade... she gave her a 1st degree burn with that roast yet she said nothing insulting at all. That's why she was as legendary in the world of shade as she was in the world of music! RIP - Aretha.
🤣🤣🤣
The fact that she’s not even tryin to shade. She’s just answering the questions 😂
Nicki minaj..........Umm I'm gonna pass on that one😂
That was too funny.:-)
Lmao 😂
that wasn't nice to say
🤣😂🤣😂
EthenAllen Charite She “beat” it almost 50 years after it was set and even then was only ever able to do it with streaming.
Taylor Swift : Great gowns, beautiful gowns. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nicki Minaj : I'm gonna pass on that one. 😂😂
nicki and taylor queens that got shade by the queen of soul
what about u?
"miss Aretha i think i just passed her" ⚰️
@@neil8735 😂
@@oulawd6281 Stop.
Always iconic
She was so quick, effortless & natural with the shade. 😹
Apparently, Chaka Khan learned from her fellow Aires
tht lady was sooo funny
Whitney was a talent, she was a gift 💯💯 Aretha speak the truth🙌🏽
Whitney was as close to Aretha's talent as you can get maybe better.
@@brodocbetty4856 Whitney was great and very popular across the board. But she didn't trailblazed anything except charts and sales guided by an industry mogul. Aretha, Chaka, Tina, Gladys and so many others did all on their own, they were pioneers/trailblazers setting the foundations of musical genres and paving the way...
@@SmartRobot-wc2fb tbh I think Whitney is a little better of a singer than Mariah, but Mariah did set more foundations for the music industry than Whitney. Quite significantly, actually.
@@noncatholiccatholicrat6309 In a way, yes! Mariah is gifted and talented but her former husband Tommy Mottola is the most responsible for her massive success though...
@@SmartRobot-wc2fbwell the whole aspect of her success around Tommy is a different conversation imo. She would’ve gotten through the door regardless, but he just helped her skip to the top(as far as commercial success). However, her influence had more to do with setting the foundation for production and the mix of rnb and hip hop. Not to mention vocals/vocal delivery. Whitney didn’t really write or produce too much of her music so it’s not like she had much of an influence outside of her voice.
"But she was backing you up though, right?"
"She was in the background.."
"My church doesn't smell like that..."
LMAO
I don't get why she asked her what a church smells like if she was gonna disagree with whatever the lady said in any case. 🙄
@@elvertigomusic1182 Because there is no specific smell of a church. It's like telling an atheist you don't look like one. What should an atheist look like?
@@johnphilipteguihanon8293 I understand what you mean. She did say that her church smelt like old books to her. Not that it's the general smell of churches. Also Lauryn was being figurative, so I don't understand why they went on and on about it. Ms Aretha could've just said: 'Thanks for the compliment.'
@@elvertigomusic1182 I think she just did the right thing. She described to the interviewer what the church she's going smells like, and for me she indicated that it's different compare to hers.
@@johnphilipteguihanon8293 no there are definitely churches with a certain smell lol especially old ones it’s hard to explain I guess it’s the holy spirit lmao
She’s not shady or diva-ish; she’s just a-matter-of-fact type of person. She’s real.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ain't nothing wrong with being shady 🙅🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️ if we had more of this I guarantee you singers would take their music more seriously if a great like Aretha Franklin doesn't like your music I'd be hella disappointed
She’s shady af. You can stop being a kiss-ass now ❤
yes, @ 3:56 when that news guy said "I love you". I mean, how do you respond to that? Also, she is giving honest responses to questions and if she doesn't like you. she let you know. that is is called "genuine" not rude or fake.
@wheelie_bin she definitely was shady just like all the greats are including Mj, whitney, Patti, mariah, and so forth and we live for it❤
Frfr ❤
She went out of her way to avoid being touched by Patti 😭
@11STARFIRE me too
Not as much as her avoiding the “essence of soul” question😂. She was really not trying to answer that one.
@@ronaldopedro7701 Because Patti is even more competitive than Aretha was. Patti is gemini and she always have nice things to say on interviews but behind closed doors she would play tricks and do stuff to Aretha and other divas...sort of being a 2 faced person...at least Aretha would do/say the same in public and behind closed doors...that's why she did that at the White House...Patti must have done something that she didn't like and when she was pretending to reach out to Aretha at that reception, Aretha just moved back avoiding her...
@@SmartRobot-wc2fb thanks!
@@SmartRobot-wc2fb Do you have any receipts? I'm genuinely curious
Aretha could teach a class on shade!! R.I.P Queen
Amen 🙏🏾 💜
Trashy actually. RIP lol
I just ADORE how unapologetically HER she was. Never afraid to be honest, and did it with SASS huntay! May she rest in Peace.
She was a very astute woman. I loved her talking voice too and how she used language. Loved her answer to the question about the essense of soul.
I so agree with you. Oft times people we admire for talent may be lacking in the intelligence department. Not Miss Franklin. Astute, as you say. There is an intelligence behind her eyes. One of the smartest entertainers ever.
"She was in the background " AHAHAH 🤣😅😂
She really didn’t want to answer that question 😂
Probably was talkin shit about the interviewer afterwards..😂😂😂
Because she saw how meek the interviewer was. The minute the interviewer apologized before asking for question, Aretha was toying with her. In europe people say things like,"forgive me/would you mind/is it okay" a lot more in formal settings. To an american that can come off as disengenuous. In europe it's a show of respect that is only reserved for the true greats. They don't do this with everybody but this is the queen of soul. I mean, how often does a Scandinavian presenter get to interview the queen of soul? Aretha was probably thinking:'why she fronting? Just ask the question!'. The interviewer was also not speaking in her native language; she could've weazled that question in with some linguïstic trickery had she been a native english speaker and not so starstruck. Aretha was not being gracious.probably been doing interviews all day
Yeah she probably been getting asked that for her entire 6 decade career!
@@roddo1955 You extrapolate way too much
@@user-gu1un7pb7k thank you for your input.

Reporter: "I Love you❤"
Aretha: "Alright, is this Fox 2?"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I hollered!!
I didn't get the inside joke 😕.
she was already to move on lmao
The fact she ain't even bother to say anything regarding Taylor's singing is all you need to know 😂😂😂
Taylor has wrote or co wrote ALL of her songs and Aretha has not written much at all and none of her hits. Taylor is foremost a storyteller lyric writer. And she is a nice person and not a diva.
@user-yh5mw8yo7n first off aretha has written some of her hits... second this post or my comment has nothing to do with writing or being a nice person, it has everything to do with talent or lack of.
songwriting is a talent. @@firelord_ozai
lol it always makes me laugh when they're like "BUT SHE WRITES HER MUSIC" girl we're we talking about that? No, we were talking about singing and being a great singer. And yes Taylor ain't no diva.... we know that
@@Elway07-o4sTaylor isn’t a good writer or a good singer. Aretha however, is. The mere fact that Taylor writes songs doesn’t mean they’re good. And please don’t waste my time by saying she must be good because she’s popular cause that don’t mean shit.
“What church do you go to!” 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Most churches smell that way....
“That’s what it does for YOU” 😂😂
With her finger pointed. Phew! That was memorable.
Beyond her ENORMOUS talent, the woman was SMART. And witty. Rest in Peace diva.

And literally looked like the one who adopted Tarzan in the jungle.....

Rest in peace to the ONE AND ONLY Queen of Soul and Shade Aretha Franklin! 👑🙏🏾
@Malibu Barbie 🗣️ TRUTH!
"Would that be her husband"?Even the laugh that followed after sounded shady.🤣🤣🤣
“Alright is this fox 2?!” 😂😂😂
What does church smell like!?!?😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
this is so iconic! The church shade, taylor swift comment & patti curve took me out 😂😂
I like how Aretha said "ok" lol, it was something she'd say even way back in the 60s during interviews.
I love her answer to the essence of soul music when she finally decided to answer it! ❤️
Emphasis on when ha
Damn Aretha gave 0 fucks
😂😂
1:54 - 2:27 screaming 😂
Damn it rly saddens me that she is no longer here. 😢
Interviewer: She was backing u up though right?
On Cissy Houston: Oh she was in the background 😂
Aretha's answer on her songs giving people a sexual feeling "That's what it does for you" 🤣🤣🤣
Reporter: I love you
Aretha: Alright. Is this Fox 2?
Why…was that like the funniest one to me?!
She wasn’t a nice person really was she? She had a very high opinion of herself and I suspect couldn’t bare the idea of anyone being more regarded, successful than her.
Nobody asked you for your opinion. This woman was outrageously talented and hysterically funny
No one asked you for yours
After what she’s done for music she has earned the right to have a high opinion of herself.
YESSSS! Ms. Franklin was a Queen. I've been waiting for this one, so thank you.👏🏾
You're very welcome, I hope you enjoy
Aretha throwing shade before there was even a word for it 😂
I saw some pictures and they weren’t attractive or flattering😂😂😂
"im gonna pass on that one" its also iconic😂😂😂😂😂
So iconic. I LIVE for her shady/diva moments, but honestly I think she was just a real person who told it like it was. Very well-spoken, and an absolute legend in every sense of the word. RESPECT 🫡.
Omg the whole church segment 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can’t breathe.
Aretha was an Anointed, Crowned, A Listed, Inaugurated, Her Majesty QUEEN OF SHADE
A true artist talking. Such an amazing talent we had here on earth.
Joy Behar angered my soul when she tried to talk about how skinny Aretha used to be when her hit RESPECT came out, with present day Aretha sitting right next to her. It's not only rude, but also so ignorant. Aretha hit her with the "I'm STILL skinny." Joy Bozo needs to learn some RESPECT.
Joy Behar is loud mouth and tactless
Aretha Franklin....The Queen of Soul and Shade. I love it. I wished I would've me her. I could see us drinking tea and throwing shade 😂 Her level of petty is what I aspire too. The way she brushed passed Patti was legendary.
Imagine if she played Mother Jefferson 's granddaughter.
Lmaooo not the gowns! It’s like when people say to babies “awww look at her shoes”
I just find it so hilarious that my grandma dislikes the same celebrities Aretha does. I don’t even think she’s like a huge fan of her but my grandmother absolutely can’t stand Taylor or nicki and I love her for that 😭
Some of this didn’t seem like shade tho. Like what she said about Beyoncé
That was more a Diva moment
@Mariah&WhitneyLamb oh please..
@@JefersonSantos-bt1ef lol
@@JefersonSantos-bt1ef people always make Beyonce seen like some highly technical or talented singer.
Beyonce has a sound and is not a horrible singer.
But she's not a vocalist in the way that Aretha, Patti, Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, etc.
She's better than Janet Jackson and Rihanna but not Beyonce isn't famous for her vocals
It's important people be real about this especially for true music lovers.
Sophie Loren What? You might not like her music, but Beyoncé is an exceptional vocalist. Certainly much better, from an official standpoint, than Fantasia or Jennifer Hudson. You might prefer someone else’s style, but that doesn’t take away from Beyoncé’s skill and talent.
She was so over that question LMAO!
Honestly, had no intention of answering it
I feel the same way about Nicki sometimes I ain’t gone lie
I would looove to see Nicki Minaj react to that "I'm gonna pass on that one" 😂
The church comment had me roaring 😹
Told her to save the "essence of music" question for later only for her to tell her that she doesn't prefer to articulate it but to rather sing it. I'd walk out of the interview 😂😂😂
I think the most astute response she gave was her gentle insistence to not define or articulate soul music, but rather leave it to be experienced.
Dang she really wanted to get that "the essense of soul" question in, didn't she?
Great song writer producer 🤣🤣🤣 she didn’t mention singing
Girl I was screaming
Exactly classy shade and nobody noticed 😂😂😂😂
She saw that superbowl performance before us 😮
This was the queen you didn’t verbally wanna step in the ring with. Sure you may have had the fists, but re re came in there like she had the verbal brass knucks. She could bust you wide open if she wanted to.
She was the Queen,
Yes.
Queen of jungle.
She literally looked like the one who adopted Tarzan, after Tarzan's parents died...
If you know what I mean. 😏
Whitney being the only artist she complimented periodt.
She said Adele was a great singer. Lol
@@skepchica *in my Whitney voice, “I dont think of herr”
She complimented everyone besides Taylor and Nicki.
She didn’t like Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle because they could compete with her vocally.
She didn’t care for Diana Ross because she was prettier than her.
She didn’t like Dionne Warwick for personal reasons.
Gladys ain't seeing Aretha when it comes to vocals 🙄
@@ms.pearson7128 don't act like she can't hang

The thing is she is an Aries and Aries women can’t be fake. They aren’t interested in going along with stupid conversations. That interviewer who asked the same question 3 times, what an idiot not to realize Aretha wasn’t into that question. The
interviewer almost made it like an argument or something. Then Aretha gets labelled ‘difficult’ but its not. It’s just she is not willing to go along with mundane silly women’s behavior around her.
She always had such a bad attitude. As if she was the only one who could sing.
She is the greatest ever. 💯🌷🔥❤
I've never met a Aries female that was not a class at all by herself and that would be Miss Aretha Franklin!! When you come for me make sure you're ready respect
When I heard how grown women who did music would treat her as competition when she was a kid......I now know why she treats others like that. Some things get passed down and you end up doing to others what folks did to u
Prince, Michael Jackson, and Aretha Franklin the trinity of shade😂💀
The way patti was shaded😂😂
The girls need a legend to shade them the way Aretha used to. It made them act right
Yea she's great but don't forget how nicki Minaj disrespected her and her death by rapping about her right before she passed. That's some twisted f up shit but people still praise the girl.
🤣🤣🤣 the what they edit "the essence of soul" question 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Aretha was the queen of shade..
She wasn’t to generous with compliments and saying young performer and young singer is a fact not a compliment of one’s vocal skills 😂
She never answered the question! 😂
Just like the interviewer -- the Video kept coming back. SHADY editing I love it
Beautiful gowns I hollered bish

I love the editing of this to have the "soul" question revisted. Hehe.
Its so early to go so deep - one can use that anywhere 😂

Loved Aretha straight to the point when asked questions with honest answers.she may be gone but she will Always be the queen of soul music queen.Godbless you Aretha 🙏Rest in Peace Amen ❤🙏🕊🕊🕊🕊🦋🦋🦋🦋🕊🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I remember when Aretha Franklin was a guest on the Tonight show. Shelly Winters was just interviewed. When Aretha came over to the couch in a long flowing gown to sit, S.W. reached over to touch part of the bottom hem. Aretha caught sight of it and lightly nudged her dress away from her before finally sitting down. She must've seen Sidney Poitier 's movie ' Patch of blue'., which got her a best supporting actress Oscar
She was sharp ! So sharp
I don't know why people idolize this sort of toxic behavior. It's one thing to tell it like it is, it's another to put people down. As a black female icon, why did she spend so much time belittling and/or beefing with other black women?
@Noack Somewhere Yes, because she's the first person in human history to have a hard life. So that justifies being rude and arrogant? People can choose how they respond to hardship, and intelligent people try to use their experiences/privilege to prevent other people from going through the same thing. I hope one day you're given the wisdom to understand that.
@@theurbanottoman2096 To be fair, this is a small compilation of roughly 30 years of comments. I'm sure we could all fill a much longer video with the comments each of us have made in our lives too. She's praised countless people too
