    Omg so I got my 1.2 about a month ago and I LOVE IT. I’m typically a 35mm girly, but since the 1.2 version isn’t out yet I mainly use my 35mm 1.8 lens. But as soon as I put on my 50mm at a wedding I was very PLEASES. It is literally so good and performs so well wide open. I literally always have this lens on one of my two bodies as nothing beats the way the photos look on these photos. I love using them for candid moments. Best purchase hands down

    After using this lens for a couple of weeks on my Z9, and after trying the Sony and Canon equivalence, I can without a doubt say, that this is the best AF 50mm ever produced. This lens shines in the late afternoon with soft light into the golden hour. The files produced around that time is nothing short of art. Can't wait to see what the 85mm 1.2 has to offer. 90% of my photos are shot wide open at 1.2, and they nail AF on my Z9 and razor sharp.

      Ahhh your comment makes me so happy. That’s exactly how I feel. I was actually second guessing why I was using 1.2 because I’m so used to thinking it can’t be sharp, BUT IT IS! Thanks for your comment and for watching!

    I've shot Nikon FOREVER in the DLSR days. When I switched to mirrorless, I moved to Canon. I have the RF 28-70 F2, RF 70-200 2.8 and the RF 85 1.2 and I love them all.
    I still love Nikon (I just can't own 2 camera systems : - )) and I think the new Nikon bodies feel great in the hand. Great review!

    Its nice to see a video where someone likes their mirrorless Nikon. If Nikon got a dollar for every negative review on RUclips, they wouldn't have to make another camera - that's how rich Nikon would be. Nikon makes great gear no matter what the Sony, Canon, Fuji fanatics say.

    Current Z6 II kit is as follows: 24-70mm f/2.8S, 70-200mm f/2.8S, 35mm f/1.8S, 85mm f/1.8S, and 105mm MC f2.8S. I've been pondering getting this 50mm f/1.2S AFTER getting the 20mm f/1.8S for wider portraits and group shots. Seeing you gush about how good the lens is sealed it for me! After a second body in the Z7 II and the 20mm, this 1.2S is getting added to the bag. 😈

    Great photos! I use the 1.8S primes but dreaming of getting the 50 1.2S. Most beautiful bokeh and focus fall off I've seen from any 50mm ever. Except for perhaps the 58mm Noct, and the 1.2 optical design is likely based on the r&d that went into the 0.95, judging by the optics and shape of the lens. The Z system lenses are insanely good.

    • @lukewtcleland
      @lukewtcleland  2 года назад +2

      Yes! Oh that's an interesting thought about the relation to the Noct, didn't think about that! But that seems to make sense. Yes, seriously, every shoot and I'm just like "THIS IS AN AMAZING LENS!"

  • @bernardlanguillier7970

    The 50mm f1.2 S is my most used lens on the Z9. Truly amazing look combined with a remarkable sharpness and lack color aberrations! The C1 Pro conversions using Pro Standard profiles result in beautiful images out of the box, very little post work needed which is a huge time saver. The only bokeh I still prefer are those of the 58mm f0.95 Noct and 200mm f2.0 VR.
    I believe that the new 85mm f1.2 S may be even more special but make no mistake, the 50mm f1.2 S is simply one of the best lenses ever designed.

    Hey Luke - I heard you say you didn't like the battery grip for the Z 6 II. Take a look at the Meike MK-Z7G.This is a not a battery grip but a small extender grip that adds about 3/4" on the right hand side of the bottom of the camera. Just enough extra to add comfort to the grip. It also blends in and looks good on the camera. It fits both the Z 6 and Z 7.

Even the non-S lenses like the 28, 40, 28-75 etc., are crazy sharp and optically amazing to the point where I think these lenses shouldn’t be THIS good. 😀

    I like your pictures. You have a great eye. What I don't understand is why you use an expensive, huge lens like the Sony 50mm f1.2 for cityscape and architecture pictures that you could have taken with a much lighter and slower and, above all, significantly cheaper lens.

    Hi Luke, when you start using Nikon z6ii, did you get a chance to use it with Sigma art 50mm f1.4 or you immediately start using z6ii with the Nikkor 50mm f1.2 s? And how's the Nikkor 50mm f1.2 s chromatic abberation compare to Sigma Art 50mm?

    • @lukewtcleland

      Hey Alexandros, you know, I think I took a few photos on it, but not many. I did use the 35mm 1.4 Sigma Art on it, and it worked really well before I sold it.

    A bit weird at first to see photos of buildings in a review of this lens. But I had an Eureka moment when you dropped the fact that the Sigma 50 f1.4 ART - and excellent lens I still use a lot - weighs the same. Of course I googled and found it weights 200g less, so about 20% less. BUT! You also need an FTZ adapter, which brings is very close to the weight of Z Nikon 50mm F1.2 (about 90%). This realization brought me closer to buying it, fur sure. Now it's down to the size and cost. Still amazed at the Sony version that is also great, but a lot smaller. It's not the price but more the size that is holding me back actually.

    • @lukewtcleland
      @lukewtcleland  Год назад

      Yes, the lens is definitely HUGE. But I will say, anyone that I've handed it to to try, their eyes just light up when they hold it. It is big, but it also feels very empowering to have a lens like that. But yeah, the Sigma is an excellent lens as well.

    • @lukewtcleland
      @lukewtcleland  2 года назад

      Hey Leo, oh glad it was interesting for you! I would say an 85mm & a 50mm are two VERY different types of lenses. A 50mm is wide enough to capture events, but normal enough for portraits as well. A 85mm is more of a specialized lens because the focal length is a lot tighter. So it really depends on what you're looking to use it for. If you are looking to just have 1 lens to do a lot more, I would say the 50mm. If you want that closer feel, with a very isolated subject, then the 85 1.2 would be hard to beat. What type of photography are you thinking of using it for?

    • @AaronXu70
      @AaronXu70 2 года назад

      @@lukewtcleland Hi Luke, I actually have both 50 1.8s and 85 1.8s, I mainly use they for night street photography. This so hard to make a decision but I think I won't regret any choice I made. They are all top notch lenses.

      Just my 2 cents n my experience, if you want a perfect combo from full body to head shot lenses, you can go for 50mm and 135mm and skip the 85. I find the compression and bokeh looks good for 135mm. I do used to have 58mm, 85mm, 100mm, 135mm and i find that 58 and 135 is a best combo. In 50mm you get less background compression which have environmental feel with the portrait you capture and for full close shot with less background you have the 135mm. 85 at first for me i feel its awesome but then i feel the background compression is kinda not more and not less kinda hanging there (to be or not to be). When i get the 135mm, it was the right spot for half body to head shot and it certainly wows me. In short the 85mm is popular but it is good in everything portraiture but master of none in every aspect.

    The 50mm 1.2 is actually a piece of crap. It's soft as hell at f/1.2 compared to Sony and Canon's version, and if you have to stop it down to f/1.8 you might as well just buy the 1.8 version instead. It's a crap lens compared to the 28mm 1.4E for color, and rendering. There's nothing in the Z system worth investing in. If you don't abandon ship and go to Canon or Sony, you're just throwing your money away long term. When I leave the F mount, it won't be for Nikon.
